    Default Back home!

    *siiiiiiigh*

I'm back home guys!! I've been in America TOO long! I'm so glad to be back home!!!

THEN! My mum came from America to visit me in Aus!! We went shopping and gambling and to AUSTRALIA ZOO! Fun! I held many many koalas and even tried to steal one. Heehee.

My mum ate meat pies, bought a didgeridoo (I told her why she shouldn't and she didn't listen!), bought some kangaroo testicles and ate at Cafe 21 with me at Brissy's casino, the Treasury!

We even ate at Pancake Manor... a pancake house... and a church. An old old old brick church... with pancakes!

    Sacrilicious.

    Happy to be Home.

    Morrigan

Welcome back! What's the main thing you like better than the US with AUS if you don't mind me asking? Aus seems like a gorgeous place.

    Cultural Differences I Experienced:

°Stripping in general is MUCH less contact (for not much less money) and you go home feeling much cleaner at night. Men pay for COMPANY vs. grinding. Grinding is UNHEARD of here.

°Men are generally much nicer. GENERALLY. They are also much nicer drunks. I have YET to meet an angry Aussie drunk. Most are laid back and 'heeeeyyyy' when they're drunk. Some are asshole. Most aren't angry.

°I have a boyfriend here who treats me WORLDS better than any other man has treated me. Like a queen. Really; it's amazing.

°The food is worse, I'll give it that. Bleh food.

    °Tim-Tams.

°Candy, chocolate, icecream and sweets are MUCH BETTER here. OMG DELICIOUS! Just to die for - and you can get gourmet chocolate at a supermarket!

°Their conservation skills are AMAZING: They use cleaner-burning cheaper fuel for all public transportation, it's common to recycle, it's common to use rain-water tanks. Plastic bags even come coloured: Black for meats, blue for regular food and white for refrigerated - so you know what to put away first! They also have 'green bags' which are fabric and wash easilly for even more conservation!

°You can drink, gamble and be an adult at 18.

°Goverment helps teenagers getting a new home out. My boyfriend is going to get rent-aid for being a teen with his first apartment. Sweet!

°Healthcare is free. You can pay for nicer healthcare, but it's free otherwise.

    °Meat pies.

°They have random art EVERYWHERE. Walking down the street and there will be a giant silver fly on the road... or brass kangaroos on the sidewalk... or iron whatevers you can't even describe because it's 'abstract'.

°Rent is weekly. Makes it MUCH easier to pay rent as a stripper when you know how much to work and save aside that same night for that week's rent.

    °Surfer's Paradise.

°Houses are huge and cheap. A seven bedroom for $250,000 is normal-high.

°My rent is considered expensive at $180 per week.

    ...and there's more.

You can go up to many kangaroos and pet them! Yesterday I was out petting koalas!! Mind you, this wasn't in the wild... but it was SO fun.

You should come down under for a visit.

I wish, along with some european areas, Aus is a prime area I'd like to see. The opera house, etc. How long have you been living there?

Only about five months. If you read back far enough, my travel stories are buried in this site somewhere. I live in Brisbane, nowhere near the Sydney Opera House, but I'd also love to visit it. Sydney is a good place for tourists but SOOO bustling. I like Brisbane because it's slower paced and calm. I can handle it.

I'd rekon the meat pies are better out your way LM than here. I had one in Sydney at pub, yonks ago, and still have not had a better one. My homemade ones are getting close, but not close enough. I think you might even have Muzza's Pies out there in Birsbane. He was NZ before heading to Australia to make his fortune, pretty good pies back in Auckland suburbs.

Lots of good things Australia, I'm still wanting to make it up to Brisbane/Gold Cost.

What was Australia zoo like? I used to love the ol' Croc Hunter.

What made you want to move? I'd be so scared to move to such a far away area.

Australia Zoo was GREAT. I couldn't get away from the koalas. I am actually currently wearing the koala ears I got there. I have 'em on me head.

And I like Brumby's meat pies so far. I've heard of Muzza's but I haven't gotten them (their slogan is 'buy our pies or we'll both starve' right?).

I like curry and pepper steak meat pies. They're DELICIOUS. Yummmmmy.

You should also come for a visit.

Yep that is Muzza's. I've been wondering where the good meat pies have been. I'd love to try more though. I have only found one shop in Melbourne that does them decently. Fresh made on premisis. I usually go for peppersteak myself.

Ah maybe we will get renters for our place soon, and I'll sneek off to Birssy for a holiday. Did that going to Sydney once. Forgot it was Thanksgiving, and could not get anything done at the Consulate. So I had a good day trip in Sydney.

I'm originally American, yes. I'm from Southern California (and MI for a bit) and then I moved to Australia.

Honestly? I haven't missed America once. I cried like hell when I had to GO BACK to renew my Visa because I didn't want to leave Australia. This is more like home to me than America ever was.

    And you're American, CRB?!

plus australia is on the other side of the world, even further. I remember the episode of the Simpsons where Bart calls to Australia to see if it's true that the toilet water goes down the opposite way when flushed. LOL

Yes I am. Actually my time here is almost over. Time to go back. I've been a lot of places, and while I do love it here. I don't miss small town mentality of where I lived in America. I've stopped counting moves when I got to 31. Born in the north, lived all up and down the east coast, then Melbourne, to Auckland, to Melbourne. Visited Sydney, Adelaide, lots of places in Victoira, Tasmania and Japan (pity only 1 day) Korea (3 weeks) Mayalsia (2 days, just transiting to Taiwan) Taiwan (10 days) Hong Kong (1 week), most of the Asian countries were visited with friends.

I don't miss America, not really. I've grown quite fond of Australia. I have found one thing in my travels; there are good things everywhere if you have but eyes to see them.

If you ever feel like patting some more kangaroos, Currumbin Sancurary is great on the Gold Coast.

Tame koalas don't scratch. Of course, I'd LOVE to see someone even catch a wild one! I held a tame koala and pet it and cuddled it... it was SO adorable. And at one point there was a baby koala on a mum's tummy and it was reaching for some gumtree leaves... so I pulled down the branch and the widdlebitty baby reached out and took the branch from my hand and ate a leaf. AAAAWWWWRRR!
