Default Panic attacks and double jointedness

I was wondering if you ladies who get panic attacks have any particular 'double jointedness' (extreme flexibility in the joints)? Apparently theres a gene that makes you susceptible to panic attacks, and the same gene also makes you double jointed (usually in the hands or back, but can be elsewhere).

    Just curious.

Hmmm... I have panic attacks, and yes, I am double jointed, and hyperflexible (a related medical condition).

Wow! That's a weird connection! Where did you hear about that Scarlett? I knew a girl that was double jointed and she would have some crazy freak out panic attacks, I never would have connected the two. I wonder if it's real or a coincidence?

I get them sometimes and I'm really double jointed, I used to freak my mom out as a kid by bending my arms and legs back the other way lol

Double jointed is just the laymen's term for someone who is hyperflexible, hyperextensible, or hypermobile.

That is a crazy connection! I wonder how they even think to test stuff like that. I have panic attacks and also am double jointed.

Ya, it's real- it's from my neurobiology class.

Basically, there's no gene for panic disorder, but both panic disorder and joint laxity occur on the same part of chromosome 15 (in the form of an extra copy of certain genetic sequence). They don't know yet WHY a gene would control those two unrelated things...but, I guess, they're working on it!

    I thought it was neat.

My legs are a bit flexible... but I cant do splits... I have crooked hips and all. My mother was double jointed in all her fingers... I dont know if she had anxiety/panic attacks... but I sure do!

I'm hyperflexible (double jointed thumbs, and knees...along with being able to bend my body into just about any position...hence probably why I love Yoga, LOL). But, I've never had a panic attack in my life...

I am hyperflexible--so much so that I've had several knee surgeries due to injury from it. My thumbs bend backwards to touch my writst, I can do the splits and "chinese" splits with no warm up, my elbows bend a bit backwards when I lock them (creeps people right the hell out), and I can bring my arms from behind my back to in front of me over my head with no problems.

I have had one panic attack in my life, brough on by *extreme* stress and psychological abuse at the hands of a sex therapist. Not one before, not one since, and that was 5 years ago. Interesting correlation, but I am pretty sure not true in my case (many non-hyperflexible people get panic attacks for far, far less reason than what caused my single experience)

Holy crap....the world makes sense again.

I'm hyperflexible in my hands (grosses people out) and I have panic attacks. I never would have dreamed that they were related.
