When I go back to work I'll be dealing with illness. I am going to "deal" by only working part-time, taking it verrry easy (slower stage dancing, not pole dance athletics) and wearing costumes that hide problem areas & keep me comfortable.
I've found the best excuse for going into the dressing room for health related reasons is, "I'm changing my costume, you'll love it..."
Try to hide your circumstance from the club management & other girls...you really can't trust people at work.

I don't have diabetes but my younger brother does and I'm so worried that I'll get it because the type he has is autoimmune and I have an autoimmune disease that runs hand in hand with the type of diabetes he has. I've always wondered what I'd do in that situation. I mean, you really can't use a pump when you're dancing because everyone would see it. Well, I guess you could but it might make it difficult to dance. If it were me, I would do it as needed as possible, in between my sets, make sure to stick to a very strict diet, don't drink any alcohol, if I started to feel low, would no matter what run back to the dressing room or bar and drink orange juice. And I'd let my managers know just in case if I had to leave in the middle of my set. You might want to strap a little pouch to your garter, hide it under your money and carry around some candy with you in case you do go low. Honey, I really feel for you, especially having this with dancing, it must not be easy.

I have asthma that's controlled pretty well but I keep all my inhalers and allergy medicine with me in my locker at all times. And I do have back problems too in which I do have to take breaks and do have to take medicine for it to relieve the pain. It's a pain in the ass having to run back to the dressing room to use my inhaler or take some medicine for my back pain. I just say to myself, it is what it is and do the best that I can. I might not make as much money as some of the girls because they can be on the floor longer than I can but I know I can't be on floor when I can't breath or I'm in pain. Just do the best you can do and don't ever be hard on yourself for it. Your health always comes first! Good luck sweetie!

I have asthma as well. I use a steroid inhaler twice a day to prevent asthma attacks, and I never go anywhere without my albuterol inhaler in case of emergency. Sometimes if they get a little too happy with the fog effects, I have to hit the albuterol, but other than that I have no problems.

I have several medical conditions, including but not limited to...asthma(mild thankfully),scoliosis, and a probable gallbladder disorder that causes bone crushing pain from time to tim eand is completely unpredictable. I am though, having surgery tomorrow morning so hopefully they can find the problem and fix it.

I just deal with it. I carry my inhaler so I have it if I need it. I carry my meds, including painkillers which I take ONLY if the pain is so debilitating I'm in tears...but i have to hide them so the other girls dont see them... or they bug me forever to have some. They are very expensive and if I give them up 1)I might get in trouble for "dealing" 2) I'd be contributing to their drug problem...but if I dont I'm a horrible bitch keeping all the "fun" to myself. Ugh. I kept telling them that I take them for ACTUAL PAIN and not to get fucked up, and that they are too low dose to do them any good anyway...but junkies being what they are...keep bugging me. So I hide them now. And yes, management knows about it so I wont get in trouble if I'm caught with them(which I shouldnt anyway since I have an actual prescription!)

I have epilepsy & panic attacks. One of my bestfriends who danced with me, has diabetes also. I have the small petite siezures but I only get them while Im sleeping. Plus a few years ago, I had brain surgery to help & possibly cure my epilepsy. They shaved half my head! My gurls, bouncers, djs, managment came to the hospital to give me sum luv. : ) I returned to work within a month, I had to hide my "half shaved head for awhile.. but I still managed to look sexi. : ) Im just saying, try not to let certain challenges of your life WEAKEN you. *Defeate them, Master all the challenges you are delt with. Because life wasnt made to be easy.

Yekhefah can attest to the fact I have asthma as well. I think I had to borrow her inhaler once. >_<

I don't do anything about it. I only have an attack maybe once every 6 months. :/

I have two stainless steel rods and 13 metal clamps down my spine. Sometimes I have really bad back pain that no amount of medicine will help. Sometimes I just take the night off if it is bothering me or I just take it easy. I can do some pole tricks, but I just can't bend/arch my back like others can. I just learned to manage and live as normal as I can. But sometimes you have to make people aware of your condition in order for them to understand why you are the way you are.

awesome guys.....i'm SO glad you guys can relate!!!! see, i danced for three yrs, late '97-early'00. i can remember only one time i had a problem. i was on main stage totally nude and my blood sugar crashed. i have never had alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs. i don't even take aspirin!so i was really respected and when i needed help the waitresses and bartenders always looked out. so i stood there stark naked guzzling oj. i think all the dumbass custy's thought it was liquor or something, they were cheering me on! lol!i was cool afterwards. but now my diabetes has changed and is unpredictable. i can't rely on my feelings anymore. everything feels like a low. i've had it almost 20 yrs, and diseases change too. i am afraid if i went back i might truly die. my lows aren't easy to treat anymore. before some oj and crackers and i'd be set. now i have actually had to drink TWO 2 LITERS OF COKE just so i don't die. i had to resign from my job two weeks ago. now i have panic attacks when i leave the house. i have always been a responsible diabetic, i always carry coke, crackers, insulin, needles, and monitor at all times, oh and my cell. my husband makes awesome money, so in 18 mos. i want have to worry about working. i just have to now so we can pay off my medical bills. i wanted to go back so i could not have to work in 6 mos. the shorter time would be better on my health.....but at what price if i'm killing myself at the club???!!! plus my club is 50 miles away from home, and like i said i have this thing about being away from my comfort zone. ahhhhh decisions,decisions............

I have sleep disorders out the arse, scoliosis, RUGS, and a very unhappy tailbone. The sleep problems have kept me out of work a LOT... but the back stuff? Its so normal to me now, I ignore it often times.
