    Default Dancing in Conneticut

This summer has been exceptionally dead, even down at the usually-packed Jersey shore. A dancer friend of mine who's been in the business for a while, keeps suggesting that I travel up to Conneticut to dance. She says that she heard the money is really good up there and contrary to PA and NJ, summertime is THE busy time for Conneticut strip clubs...averaging over $1000/night. She suggested the clubs Rock Star, Ruby's II, and Gold Club. Can anyone comment on this? Has anyone worked at these clubs, or traveled to them for temporary summer work? How is the money, and are they open to hiring temporary dancers?

As much as it sounds like a money-making idea, I'm not yet sold on the idea...I don't like the idea of a long commute, and I'm really getting burned out on dancing. My goal is NOT to be a career dancer, but to only do this until I get a full-time job in my field. I'm not a good salesperson by nature, and I realized a while ago that dancing is not something I want to do past a few more years or shorter. If I dance in Conneticut, I would have to postpone my jobsearching, and that could taint my resume more than it already is with a big unemployment gap. Plus, I need to show job verification to my probation officer, so I'm desperately seeking a "regular" job so that I won't have to tell him that I'm a stripper(embarrassing and being in an environment stereotyped to be "closer to drugs" won't exactly help my cause with probation). What do you guys think I should do? And should I try Conneticut, or are there any other good money-making ideas?

OK, first, don't screw up your probation.

That being said, I worked in CT a few years ago & it was my fave booking. I made more than I did anywhere else & it was a rough club even. I kept in touch with a few people in CT and they tell me the money fluctuates but it's there....
I'm sure other people have better info, but IMO if I could go back I would in a nanosecond heartbeat. Fricking LOVED it!!!

What club did you work at, and when did you work there? What range of money should I expect from Conneticut clubs? Do they allow people to work there 2days/week, or do they require a fuller schedule? Because I need to allow time in the week to do jobsearching or a regular day job.

I worked at Stagedoor Johnny's in New Haven (owned by the "infamous" Johnny himself) but my good friend R. warned me there are drastic fluctuations in business there. You should try some of the snootier CT clubs, like Elan's....
I have had offers from friends to put me up if I choose to go back to CT, but my life won't allow for travel bookings for a while....I was just crazy-delighted by the Northeast. I would love to live there.

    Dear PhillyDancer1982
You might be better off staying where you area and continue your job search.

I'm from Connecticut and clubs aren't that great in the summertime either. I've got a lot of dancers from the Gold Club (argubaly, the best club in the state) working for me this summer because of how poor the club has been. You've somewhat admitted that "hustling" is not your best area ("I'm not a good salesperson by nature"), so you might find your earnings disappointing, believe me, you won't be making $1000 a night.

As for the other clubs you mentioned earlier ... RockStar is still a new club and Ruby's sucks (I am biased because I like Scruples, the other club in Bridgeport, better ... and Scruples isn't that great either)

Philly, I agree with CTstriptease. I live in CT, and danced here for a couple of years, although I haven't danced in a long time. However, some of my friends still dance, and they tell me that it is slow, being summer and all. Of course, there is still the chance to make money, but there is nothing special about the clubs in this state. Lots of girls are doing the club circuit. In other words, you would probably be better staying where you are. If you came here, you'd have to figure in traveling and living expenses. And the $1000 per night is VERY rare (a very good looking friend of mine told me she make $32 the other night after tip out).

As for Rockstar, I heard that it started out good, but that they installed time clocks in the LD area....all songs are timed at 3 minutes. You have to punch out before the end of that time, or the club charges you an extra 5 dollars (I think they take 5 per song). Anyways, my friend didn't like this, and she said the customers were ticked off too. Good luck with whatever you decide to do, just don't expect things that probably won't come to fruition.

if you're going to conneticuit i say go to Mardi Gras in springfield mass. its not that far over the hartford border and i make pretty decent money and im not the classic stripper beauty. tip out to the house is absurd though. and the management sucks. the girls are all cunts, too. but hey the money is good, right?

I heard Mardi Gras in Springfield is a whore house! The whole upstairs champagne room is a front for sucking and fucking! I know of a few dancers who worked there and they said that's why the beds are there ...

Indeed it is. Though I did not do one champagne room in the time I booked there (a lot of the creeps would come out and ask what I would do specifically and for how much, and since I don't do anything but dance they would pass) and still made decent money. I guess if you are one who can turn a blind eye there is money to be made at Mardi Gras. The girls are sharks, watch your belongings. The stage work is grueling. I left because I did not like the atmosphere, didn't like the staff and management. Something just told me to get the hell out of there, so I did.

Hey- yeah, i only lasted at the gras for a few months. it sucked. bobby made me cry almost every night, had a girl try to get away with 600 dollars that was mine at the end of the night, very dramatic when the management didnt do a thing about it and i had to take it into my own hands. there is so much money there though. it's ridiculous. stage work sucks. the stage sucks. the girls are terrible, yes, they are whores. Ive never done anything naughty there- and im pretty sure thats why the management hated me. o well! glad im gone.

and as far as the beds go- there arent beds. there are couches in the champagne room. beds in the dressing room for the girls to stay overnight if they cant get home, etc etc. i dont reccomend sleeping there. 10 dollars a night is not worth hearing coke being snorted and crack being smoked throughout most the night.

So true! I stayed there once thinking it was a great set up for the traveling girls. I ended up sleeping with my dance bag in the bed because I realized what the deal was! Other girls had told me stories later on about awful things that had happened to them there. Its a shame because the money was consistent which is hard to find in this business anymore. But sometimes the money is not worth the risk!

When did you dance there, Sauske? I've just moved back to CT from DC. I won't be dancing again 'til Summer 07, Fall 07 or Jan 08, but I'm trying to get an idea of what my options may be. I'd actually prefer not to dance in Hartford County b/c I grew up here/live here and my family and CT friends don't know I dance. What is the "busy season" in this area?

i danced at MG1 december up until just a few short weeks ago. Id highly reccomend it if you are just passing through town. but having it be your home club is a shitty idea. honestly, I liked dancing at centerstage (right across the street) so much more. it's a lot smaller. but...its a better atmosphere. whatever's your pleasure. if you have any questions about MG1 feel free to PM me

I work at the Catwalk in New Haven. Just started in May, so I had the great timing knack of starting out right as the slow season starts, but hey, it's not a bad way to learn the ropes. Anyway, if any of you (Philly, Isabella) want to check out the Catwalk, I think it's a decent place. Weekdays can suck righteously, it's true, but Fridays and Saturdays are fairly reliable - even with it being the slow season I average $500-$600. Have come close to a grand (if you count 'gross' earnings, I definitely did earn over $1,000, but it ended up being just under $900 NET after payouts). Thursdays are pretty close to Fri-Sat in quality, too.

Certain things in management seems very reasonable. In order to work busy nights, you are required to work one slow night, so if you want to work Friday and/or Saturday, you'd have to work Monday, for example. Seems perfectly fair to me. House fee depends on what time you come in - the earlier the cheaper. Starting at 7 or 8 is usually $20 or $30, 9 is $40 and so on. DJ tipout is $20 (though I usually give more, unless I've either had a ridiculously bad night OR been given Nickelback) and the DJs are nice guys, especially Chad. So you're looking at between $40 and $60ish in fees, not bad. They don't count dances or take any of your stage tips. Stage sets are generally 3 songs apiece. If it's only 2 girls working (which is extremely rare, and usually temporary - at least 1 or 2 others will most likely show up eventually) you do 4 songs. On packed nights, we speed up the rotation by doing 2 songs in the front and one in the back (which I like since I only have a handful of truly cool pole tricks so far).

The only other things they take a cut of are the 2-4-1s and the VIP. 2-4-1s are as annoying as they are anywhere else: 2 songs for $30, and the club takes $15. You mean I get to do twice the work for less than what I'd normally get? Fabulous! VIP is in 15-minute increments, at a minimum of $150, and they take $50 for each 15 minutes. You can charge more, it's totally up to you (I charge $200 for the 1st 15 minutes, then back to $150 for every 15 minutes after that), but they'll always take that $50 chunk out of each 15-minute segment.

What else? Owners and managers includes women, which is nice, although my favorite manager is Adam. Bouncers are very good, they definitely have your back. DJs range from fairly good to great. The other girls have always been nice to me, so far, though drama is not nonexistent, of course. The main sources of drama never seem to last too long, though. Because it's a nude club, in CT this = juice bar. There's a regular bar right next door called Hell, and customers can walk back and forth between the two. You are free to have a drink as long as you have paid your house fee for the night. Customer-wise, you do get a LOT of college kids with their hard-earned double-digit allowances, hence the sometimes-sucktacular weeknights. Sundays have no cover and Tuesdays are 2 for 1 admission, which does help fill the place, but sometimes that just means it's filled with tightwads.

Too much info? Sorry, got carried away there.

It's disappointing to hear all the bad stuff about Mardi Gras! Even though I'm generally happy with the Catwalk, I've been thinking about checking out some other clubs just to see what they're like, now that I've had some experience. My friends and I always had lots of FUN at Mardi Gras when we've visited - it seems like such a nice party atmosphere. Several girls onstage have identified me as a fellow dancer and told me I should come up and work there . . . My main reservation so far has actually been the stage. Seems so hard to navigate, plus I'm a pole lover & it seems like you can't do too much on the ones they have. I'd still have given it a shot, but now that I know extras are so rampant, I'm not so sure . . . One of my semi-regulars is always trying to recruit me to Keeper's in Milford. Haven't been there yet, so I can't say.

Thanks a million for the info Rose!!! Super helpful! I can't wait to get back... I tell ya, dancing helps support my family (to be, me+1 in December) while I'm finishing school/establishing my career as a nurse so it may be a means to an end, but you don't miss something 'til ya can't do it anymore. It has it's up and downs, but I can't wait to get back to work! Flexible schedule, great money and generally a fun environment... Oy....

    Hey RoseWhite,
I stopped in the CatWalk last friday night (after 1am) to see "the Little Sisters". What's your stagename at the club? I'm curious to know if I caught you dancing that evening.

Keepers isn't that great of a club, although, I do visit this club a lot. I personally like it more than the CatWalk because the cover is only $5 after 6pm. I also find the place to be somewhat busier because it serves liquor. Girls bounce back and forth between these two clubs often i.e. Maya from the CatWalk used to work at Keepers along time ago. Its a very clean club, no fucking or sucking, especially at night, however, the daytime is known to be more raunchy. There is no house fee for new girls for one month. If you try, let us know, I'd love to get a dance from you! Take care

Hey there - as I am here, I'm Rose at the club. Big blonde ponytail, curvy, probably in a schoolgirl or polkadot ensemble. Also very jetlagged at that point. Friday was an odd night, to say the least! My first feature experience.

Thanks for the info! I love Maya - I'll ask her how she liked Keeper's, too! And I'll keep you posted if I give it a whirl there.

18+ to work in the BYOB places, and 21+ to work in the liquor clubs, unless you have a parent or guardian sign off on it...i think (this was the case a couple of years ago...i witnessed a fellow dancer get fired when management got a phone call from her mother...she had forged her siggy...they told her to come back after her 21st b-day). however, again, this was a couple of years ago.

Wow I danced in CT ages ago! In college when I lived in MA and I didn't want anyone I knew to recognize me I danced at Mardi Gras II (not that profitable, hey I thought it was at the time and it taught me to hustle; and then at the Gold Club, Hartford.

Anyways, I was reading this thread (and it's dated) so now I live in RI, still make the drive to Mardi Gras, Springfield, (rarely) but mostly work in RI. What about CT?

What's the top CT club of "now" is it still Catwalk... What time are they open?

    Thanx
