    Default Stem Cell Research

Where do you fall on that debate?

Do you think it can save the lives of millions and therefore should be supported?

    Or

Do you think it is an immoral and unfair use of unborn embryos?

    Or

Do you favor it only if embryos that would normally be discarded from fertility clinics are used (no farming)?

(got this from another mesg. boards)

I think it should be supported by the government and the NIH. But only if the embryos used are those extras obtained from fertility clinics. They will end up being discarded anyway. So why shouldn't scientists put them to good use on finding cures for such devastating illnesses as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, diabetes, muscular dystrophy, etc...

But only those embryos that would end up being trashed.

I do not support farming embryos for spare parts.

But, yeah see, That's part of the debate.
The people against Stem Cell research are usually the Anti-abortionists.
So, to them, you don't have one, you don't have the other, so it's all good for them.

The fact of being stem cells makes it, by definition, not a fetus.

A fetus has the architecture of the adult animal. Humans are generally considered to be fetuses after the eighth week of gestation. A stem cell has not yet differentiated and so is not yet in the fetal stage.

Sorry, JZ. I meant to say embryos, not fetuses. I edited my posts as such.

I think that if science has the ability to grow "spare parts" individually rather then farming whole fetuses, they should go ahead with it.
But yes, I agree that stem cell research should go ahead.
