Default Pay attention to body language! It makes a difference in your $$$$!

Ladies, pay close attention to body language. I know LuckiCharm posted something similar in another thread about it, but she talked more about the dancers body language. I'd like to mention about Customer's body language. I people watch some while I"m on stage to check people out, who I think is a good spender, who the other dancers are talking to, the high earners who they talk to, etc. One big thing I've noticed is that some dancers have been wasting their time with a customer that is not interested in him and you can totally tell by the body language. The customer has his arms crossed, has a closed facial look and looks away a lot when the dancer is talking to him. It's somthing that's intrigued me a little to check out to see if anything comes of it and what I've seen so far is NO! She'll end up wasting a lot of time with this person who isn't interested at all but one of those customers that doesn't say anything and doesn't make it as obvious as some and didn't make any money off them. Ladies, when you're talking with a customer, try to pay attention to body language, it's very important! I listened to a short tape in the car on body language and it's helped me in other parts of my life too. Body language makes up about 90% of all communication and verbal is about 10% of it. So, next time when you're with a customer and sizing him up, pay attention to the body language and see if you get that welcoming feeling or not. If you don't get the welcoming feeling, say something like "well, I just wanted to say hi & welcome you to 'insert club name' and hope you enjoy your time here. My name is 'insert name', let me know if there's anything I can help you with" and move along so you don't waste your time. I've seen lots of girls at my club doing this when they could be making a lot more money.

Arms crossed is a pretty basic one. A more important one though is how your customer is sitting there looking at you. When customers lean in, even because the music is loud, it's a strong buying sign. People do it subconsciously because they feel that they have rapport with the sales person. This one of the things I often teach when I work with car salespeople. When they are sitting with a customer, most of the time the customer will sit back in their chair. Once they start leaning in, that's a MAJOR buying sign.

Another good buying sign with body language is when people take off their glasses and chew on the earstem or if they sit with their hands in front of them, fingers spread and touching. Both of these are indications that a customer is curious, paying attention, and wants more information before he buys.

This is why I like to work in clubs where they do not pressure me to approach each and every f-ing patron in the place. I love to sit back at times and just watch... be "invisible" due to not moving or being seen... even if it is for a good 15 minutes or so. Why? I am not wasting my time ... I'm watching all that the OP mentioned: who I think is a good spender, who the other dancers are talking to, the high earners who they talk to, etc.

Guess what, it is the pure fact and reason why I can sometimes have really great nights and only have danced with less than 5 customers in total. I just can't be a quantity dancer anymore. I don't have the patience or the energy. I look for quality.

Granted, I'm not perfect tho' it works more often than not. It increases my chances of a "yes" (or sale) over being rejected a million times.

Somehow I tend to open these "closed off" guys at times.
On Saturday, I approached a guy who was kind of negative, but polite. He didn't make a lot of eye contact and he didn't face me when he talked initially. After several remarks from him about how I am only there to take guys' money and how we are all "faking it", I asked him about his previous strip club experiences, and if something bad happened to him to make him feel that way.
He admitted that his FIRST time in an SC, a dancer kept dancing through several songs without asking him if he wanted another until his tab ran pretty high and he was unaware of how long they were dancing or how much he owed until afterwards. Undoubtedly, he felt pretty ripped off, and has had a negative view of strippers ever since.
My approach was to let him know that it was brave of him to come back into this type of setting despite his previous experience, and that while some dancers may be all about the money, there are those of us who are honest and ethical, and I went on to explain how I treat my job as I would if I were running a business. I let him know that I am there to see that my customers have a great time, and that doesn't involve playing tricks to get more money. I was forthright in saying that yes, we do need to pay our bills, but we too can have a good time and some of us really enjoy our work.
I didn't pressure him for a dance, but said I would come back later to check on him if I wasn't occupied. He admitted that he enjoyed getting dances, and that he should be more careful in selecting a dancer to spend time with by talking for a little while first. He also told me he'd throw me a good tip on stage, which he did.
I got busy later in the night and didn't come back to him for a dance, but I did see his friend sitting alone, which probably means he was off having fun. Maybe he wasn't spending money on me, but I got him into a spending pattern, and he does live nearby, so I might have a future customer.
So I think a little probing without pressure can sometimes result in a problem solved for all! Add a little humor and a lot of guys tend to open up. Yes, there are some who can rarely, if ever be "cracked", but those guys never seem to spend money and try to spread their misery to other girls by waving them off before they even get a chance to say hello. Those guys are personally not worth my time, but maybe just a smile here and there can get them to throw a tip on stage once in a while.

Reading body language is key to success in this business. I took a class in that for my psychology major back in the day.

Same thing's true for voice intonation. How a custy will put a vocal twist on the end of a sentence can speak more than the actual words.

Alexxahex, I have to say, you handled yourself in a very professional, amazing manner! That was awesome of you to do that and very business wise of you too! I bet you will have him as a future customer. I've done the same thing before, had customers say similar things like that and I've responded in a simlar way too. I've said to them, "Yes, this is our job and we do need to make money, just like you Joe, need to make money in your managment job with your customers". When you do explain it like that, when you do "agree" with them sort of by saying yes we as strippers are here to make money but we we're also here to insure the customer has a great time out and are customer service oriented, and that it was a shame that he came across a bad stripper, not all of us are like that. They do see you a different way and I think it helps them to build a rapport with you and trust you a little more than they would otherwise. Now, you can really only do this with customers at the beginning of the night before it's busy or on an overall slow night. There's no way we'd have time to do that when the club is packed with customers, it just wouldn't be business wise for us, but I am all for that when it's slow. Great job, Alexxahex!!!

One wrinkle from a custy perspective. Some of us also study the body language of the dancers. For me, it is dancers who seem affectionate and fun -- touching the customer's shoulder when she approaches him, lots of eye contact, laughs, etc.
If the customer has been observing you, his body language as you walk up in full view probably will be a pretty good indicator. But if he hasn't seen you, or if you are coming up from behind, he may be focused on someone else and not reacting to you at all.
And if he hasn't seen much of you, at the start of your conversation all he has to go on is looks. The times I have been persuaded to change my mind by a dancer have usually been situations where I hadn't seen much of her before. Then, particularly if she was not a physical stunner, the first impression was neutral.
The change came from the ability to see at the table the same types of things that I would be looking for anyway -- the kindness, a really good sense of humor, etc.

Thanks for the positive response, leogirl! I think stripping should be ethical....some don't, but that's how they want to run their business. They spend their time trying to figure out how to get over on everyone and then wonder why no one wants a repeat dance with them, or they bitch when it's slow. That's because girls like them have driven the good customers away! Not that bad ethics are the PRIMARY reason for slow times, but it's a definite factor.
I've seen girls charge double for lap dances because they weren't making enough money that night, or ones who literally steal and run scams on customers. It just doesn't make sense to me.
I wouldn't want to go into a restaurant to get a meal and be charged for two.

A good hustle trick that used to work on me was for the dancer to sit talking to me in a normal voice, then after a while asking a question saying something that I couldn't quite hear - forcing me to say I didn't hear them and leaning in.

It works great - try it.

Unfortunately for me, now that I realize a gal is using this technique, it pisses me off to no end.

Some of the best advice I learned from DW was to go to the guys looking around first. I guy who is physically turning his head around and watching all over (not just stage) is 9 times out of 10 an easy sell. I go to them first.

You'd be amazed how many dancers don't notice this. Gets frustrating some times.

It often makes me laugh to see how few people actually notice one of the most expressive buying signs there is. My favorite was I was in one of the big Vegas clubs a while ago and I saw a customer doing this for over five minutes and not one dancer even said hi to him. Eventually a dancer walked up to him and said, "Hi...I saw you looking around. Are you waiting for someone?" to which the customer replied, "Uh......not really" and the dancer turned around and walked back to the other customer she was sitting with earlier for 30 minutes and never bought one dance from her. AAAAAGGGHHHH!!!!
