    Juice Diet/Fast Question

If I do a juice fast/diet program is it okay to add protein powder to my (no sugar added!!) juices? I know a concern from lots of people here, when juice fasts are mentioned, is protein intake.

Right now I've got a no-fat, no-sugar whey protien powder and with some grapefruit juice it tastes delish!

I've done that when I get super hungry, but I try not to. My trainer says it's okay.

Yes, it's ok. If you are only going to do a fast for a few days, you probably won't need the protein powder. For people who do fasts for weeks, they will probably need to add the powder to prevent muscle loss.

    OK cool.

I wasn't planning on doing this for weeks. I think I'd die. Either from lack of solid food or because I'd pass by a restaurant on the way home and binge to death.

    Thank you!!!

That sounds cool. Whenever I mention juice fasts my boyfriend automatically labels me anorexic...

    Good luck!

these diets do work. drink chinese diet teas as well. tea with lemon curbs your need to fill your belly. the hot summer is the best time to do these diets cause your body needs water based things like fruits and veggies.
buy a juicer. and purchase a book on detoxing your body. it works.

I am doing this for control of my bowel condition not weight loss but a Juicer is the way to go. Not store bought juices.

I got a Breville one and use it twice a day

Carrott and Apple are favourites at the moment
    Also Carrott with ginger
    Pomegranate and apple

Can try all sorts of combinations, source all organic vegetables, plenty of water and tea.. you will soon get over the hunger, i have another few weeks to go and am starting to feel a whole lot better in myself.

    Good Luck

Lol, consider yourself lucky! My now-ex bf always told me to go for it!

I've never done a juice diet... I've been thinking about it. So, you only drink juice? For how many days? What are the results?

A few weeks to go? If you are not over-weight I cannot see why you would go a few weeks fasting... I don't know hon that does not sound too healthy to fast for a few weeks especially if you are working... You can clean out your bowels by other means.

If you eat lots of fruit and veggies I do not see why your bowel would not clean themselves out as a result of that. Someone who is very phyiscally active like a dancer needs food. You body still needs some bulk because the intestines have muscles in them and if they are not pushing something thru they could loose their muscle tone...

^ You obviously don't read. She's stated time and again that she's doing it for managing Chron's Disease.

And, there are other reasons for doing fasts that have nothing to do with digestion.

this is the only reference I see to her saying anything about her bowel in this thread...Maybe she has said it time and time again but, not here in this thread that I can read anyway...

Gee, what did I say or, do to deserve being snapped at like that? Actually in my college entrance scores reading comprehension was one thing that I scored as high as could be recorded...my reading comprehension certainly helped me in earning my BS degree in Nutrition as well...

She stated this in response to someone else:

And you replied to the end part of her quote AFTER she said that she wasn't doing it to lose weight.

Sorry...it just gets extremely annoying when people keep reading only part of a post and then responding with unneeded info.

Well with all this talk about fasts I think I might go on one myself. I'll be going on it for the totally vain reason too... To lose weight. I've recently gained 13lbs from working as a customer service agent at a call center. Long screwed up hours and a ton of stress! I've tried doing it the healthy way but it doesn't seem to be working... Well it might eventually work but it's been a month and nothing has happened.

I'm sorry to hijack this thread, but it'd probably be less of a piss off then to start a whole new thread on the same topic. Plus I think that I might ask a few questions that will benifit Hardkandee as well. First of all is cardio, I go to the gym 6 days a week and pump it doing intense cardio for 30-45mins (occassionally an hour). It's how I deal with all the stress that I have and I don't want to give it up, so is it okay to do cardio on a fast or will I be eating away at my muscles? Will I be losing fat or all my hard earned muscle? Will i gain all the weight back once I start eating and fuck up my metabolism so that i gain even more weight back? How much weight on average do you lose from this diet? Do you lose inches or just water weight? Any replies from the experienced will be greatly appreciated!!!!

It's not really recommended that you do intense cardio on a fast. Of course, if the fast is being used for a "jump start" and will last no more than a few days to a week, then you will be fine. However, if you are intending to do a fast for longer than that...you should do some form of cardio...but not as intensely (it's not about losing muscle as much as it is about sheer exhausting your body).

Thanks for the reply Venus! I'm guessing that you've fasted before. Will you let me know on average how much weight you lost over X amount of time? Also did you lose inches or just water weight and did you gain all the weight back once you started eating again? I'm really curious about these things. I don't want to fast if it's going to fuck with my metabolism.

The only fast I did was The Master Cleanse. I lost some weight, but not much (maybe 5 pounds or so)...course I wasn't "overweight" to begin with. I believe it was water weight and stuff like that. I was eating pretty badly. I was doing it because my eating was going to shit and I was having massive cravings...making it hard to go back to my healthy eating. So, with the Master Cleanse, it got me "cleaned" out enough to where I wasn't craving those "bad" foods anymore.

You know, everyone is different, and just because I didn't lose weight doesn't mean that you won't. You won't fuck with your metabolism if you do a cleanse or a fast every once in a while. Where you fuck with your metabolism is when you gain lots of weight, then lose it, then gain it, then lose it...the yo-yo'ing will fuck with your metabolism.

You may lose 3 inches...you may lose more...you may lose none. It all depends upon where your body is. Sorry I can't give you more concrete answers.

Here are some sites that talk about it. I think it would be better if you really read up on it before you did it.

If you have any questions, let me know!!

    http://www.geocities.com/hotsprings/...r_cleanse.html

    http://therawfoodsite.com/mastercleanse.htm

P.S. Most libraries carry this book/CD set. So, you don't have to go buy it...just rent it from your local library.

Ive decided to do a juice fast for 7 days... Im going to do this the day after New Years Eve, As a way to cleanse myself... Im scared lol, I smoke, and drink, and eat a ridiculous amount of fried chicken and greek lamb chops... They say there is no smoking or drinking while on this diet... (pshhh I will def def try)
its a whole process... on jan 2nd Im going to eat very lite stuff like salad, fruit salad. and start drinking cranberry juice.
Then for the next 7 days I picked out a set schedule of strictly juice/vege drinks... I found some recipes online...
I dont have a juicer.. and no I do not want to spend any money on one either, I was wondering if using a blender w/ice cubes, and water and straining will be accurate enough?? Does anyone know if this will work?

Straining and a blender will work just fine. You may want to get a "hand" juicer for the fruits like oranges, lemons, grapefruits, etc. Much easier than try to do that with a strainer. Here's what I'm talking about:

    Either this: http://www.chefsresource.com/orange-juicer.html

    Or this: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...n-20/ref=nosim

For the rest of the stuff...you can strain and blend...it'll be a little more pulpy...but the fiber content will really help you.
