Default persistent knee pain- what cardio to do?

So I typically like to run a lot and do the stairclimber at the gym. Recently my knee is getting sore. Like throbbing all day kinda sore. I've stopped stairclimbing and am running less...I also gave up floor work (doesn't seem to matter since my stage routine ain't that great anyway). But still the pain. I suck at swimming, but maybe I should switch to this? I can't give up the cardio because I'm trying to lose another ten pounds, once and for all. I like to exercise! What should I do that won't hurt?

I have the same problem. I attribute my knee pain to the way I dance and bend at work and how I stand and distribute my body weight. Also one of my knees seriously hyperextends and that has been quite bothersome lately.
I like to do the eliptical it is not bad on your knees. Swimming is also really good, but I used to be a competitve swimmer and breaststroke always seemed to bring back my knee pain, so just stick to basic freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and skip breaststroke if your knees are hurting.

the elliptical trainer is, i believe, the least stressful on your joints. i've got knee problems too and the elliptical doesn't bother them at all.

the stairmaster is supposed to be pretty rough on the knees, so be careful with that.

Swimming and elliptical machine are both very easy on your joints.

I have to agree on the eliptical one. My knees are just weak and tend to 'fall out' if bent wrong. Are you taking any joint supplements? Those help alot and start to work in the body about 5 weeks from when you start taking them.

Try a bicycle. I know it makes excellent rehab after knee surgery by strengthening all the muscles around your knee.

How about in-line skating? I have some problems with my knees as well and I can't run, but in-line skating works fine for me.

add those joint supplements to your regimine. my ex used to do thai kwon do, but his knees were shot. he started taking those and it really stop most of the pain, alo you can take an aspirin/pain killer 20 min b/f you work out also.

I'm not sure that is a very good idea in the long term, Bonn.
