    Default Conversation starters...??

Ok I have found that it is very uselful to talk to all the guys in the club that you possibly can, then they notice you as that girl who talked to them. But I need some really good conversation starters. Things that can't be answered with one word or just one sentence. Or quiestions to keep a dead conversation going to avoid awkward silences and continue charming them :-)

I always ask people what they did that day? So, then you find out what they do for a living, where they work, or if they work at all, and possibly some of their interests, likes, and dislikes....it gives youa lot to go on....and, it's an unusual question, so most guys like the originality of the conversation...

    Hey cutie.
Did I see you earlier today? (Insert local place, insert I-was-running-errands & I saw.... anecdote.)
(If he tells you to come back later) Are you ready for me now?
    Do you like my dress?
I'm going to be onstage in a couple songs. Come up and see me!
So, what do you do in your off-time?

I commend you on that! That is a good question. In my club, I guess I'm know as the dancer who will talk to anyone, regardless of race, class whatever. (That's what my manager says, anyway). I do run out of original things to ask. But that is a good one.

A short story: I asked an East Indian looking guy where he was from and he asked me to guess. I kept getting it wrong and wouldnt tell me. When I guessed Central American, he got really offended by that and walked away from my stage WTF!!?

I apolgiezed to him later and he tipped me and excused himself because he had been drinking. However, I saw him yesterday. He was friendly but he did say"What does it matter where he's from"?

Shit! I thought I was just making small talk. I love to find out about other cultures. I love it when people try to guess where I'm from.

I guess I've learned my lesson. I won't ask. But is it considered a rude question?

Maybe it's just that he gets tired of people asking where he's from. Just like we sometimes get tired of people asking where we're from. I usually ask guys if they are from the town where we are. That way it's not a nationality question, merely a geographical one. Who cares if you look silly when they obviously aren't from there. It also helps to learn if they are in town on business, vacation, etc. It is very easy to get a convo. going once you find out if they're local or on bus. etc.

Yeah, whenever I get "Where are you from?" I always sigh and get upset because I'm sooooo tired of having to answer every question that I know will follow it.

i've been using the whole "politician" approach. i walk up, introduce myself ,say hello ,ask if they are enjoying themselves and say "excellent, great, good (whatever)" then i say something like ok well back to work just wanted to stop over and say hello. then i go back awhile later and say hello again and usually they start talking first then just take the convo from there. i've also noticed guys sitting as far away from the stage alone and go over and say "hey handsome, so how come you are sitting so far away?" or if a guy is watching tv i sneak up behind them and whisper in thier ear "so how come you came all the way out here to watch tv when you have beautiful naked women to stare at" that usually starts up a convo..

Yeah, I would never think so...But, some people are sensitive. So just in case maybe say something like, "Oh I love your accent. Where are you from?" That way you're giving them a compliment so they can't possibly take it as rude. I think that man was being to sensitive though!

Actually it is...It's kinda like someone looking at you and saying, "so what ARE you" It makes it seem like the only thing you are interested in is race/nationality. I hate when people say, "so CK what are you"

Next time someone says, "guess where I'm from" instead of quoting a race that you think they resemble, say, "umm NY, or FL" dont' make race seem like such a big deal to you. Just my opin...

I had something happen like the race card. Except it was with a job. There was one custy I sat with. He was in town on a business trip, and so I was trying to make small talk and ask him what he did for a living. He got mad at me for that, asked if I wanted his SS# too while I was at it, then insisted that I guess what his job was. Guessed sales and that was apparently the wrong answer. He got pissed. Luckily, it was then my turn to jump on stage so I escaped from his weird vibes.

People are so strange sometimes! And I wish that I had some conversation starters to help you with... Unfortunately, I am the queen of awkward silences.

I've found that reactions to that question really help me get a feel for the custie...
Him: So where are you from? (hopefully expecting to find out what my mother country is)
Me: Oh, I'm from Los Angeles.

Custie not worth my time: Oh, you know what I mean! Where are you REALLY from? Come on.
Custie worth my time will leave it at that and we'll continue the conversaton, possibly talk more about nationality later. It's pretty much up there with "no, what's your real name?"

Yeah, I hate it when they ask where I'm from and if I say L.A. they'll be like "what country?" And it's irritating cause I've been in Southern California my whole life. It is true that the guys that drop the subject are most likely to spend money. I usually ask "Around what area do you live?" that way it doesn't usually go bad.

I don't think it is an ethnic issue so much as guys don't know what else to say. I am as American as apple pie, and they ask me the same damn thing! I always thought they were trying to calculate the number of liniar feet between their bar stool and my bed.
