    Default Superman returns...Whatever!

I went and saw this movie with my step son yesterday. I am so dissappointed. Mel Gibson could have written the script to this film.

I don't know if anyone else got the symbolism to the gospels in the bible? I thought it was stupid. Superman is NOT Jesus.

I'm definitely waiting for the DVD, but I think the Christ figure overtones were always there. From the original Chris Reeve film, when Marlon Brando does his little speech, he says something long the lines of "humanity needs you, and so I send them my only son....". I know even back then I thought "Wow, Hi Jesus!" Much like Aslan from the Narnia flick, but that was obviously intentional.

I mildy liked the movie. It was hard to follow the story if you havent seen the previous movies. I thought the visuals of the movie were much better than the storyline itself.

The Superman/Jesus thing has been around for years. It's even in the first 1978 film. It's just goofyness, really. No-one takes it seriously. It comes from the idea that some benevolent force from the sky sent this super powered guy to earth to be a superhero.

It's actually been around a while. I do understand your point, though.

Since we aren't christian, my step son didn't get the reference. He did enjoy the movie, but he was quick to point out inconsistancies. I'm proud that he is so observent.

His parents have been pretty good at teaching him how to slueth out bullshit. That is probably as important a skill as any in this modern world.

AMAZING! So, like, this kid is actually learning critical thinking skills? Then he'll grow to be a dangerous mo-fo. Nobody wants people with critical thinking skills. They like us dumb. EVERYone should learn critical thinking skills.

    Well done!

I saw the movie & was raising my eyebrows over the strong "Jesus Savior" tone too....I thought Superman was Jewish! (Wears blue suit, aquiline nose & black hair, is nice, name ends in "man")...
I did get annoyed with the Superman running through the cornfield scene...I've done that, the stalk blades will cut your skin. Of course, he's The Man of Steel, so I guess that's not a problem.

Actually Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel, creators of the character, were both Jewish. And one was a canadian and the other was an Israeli immagrant.

Visually, this movie was cool. I also saw it at the drive-in, so everything was big. The Christ references did bug me a bit too, and my BF was able to point out things that didn't make sense, especially in reference to canon Superman stuff. I didn't buy that the girl who played Lois Lane...why the fuck can't I remember her name...Orlando Bloom's girlfriend...was a mother of a school-age kid. Overall, I enjoyed it.
