    Default "Recover Food"

OK, I did a search and went through about four pages and couldn't find a thread on this particular subject. I could find diet, how to lose weight,et.

However, I am curious. I get super hungry and tired after working out 1 1/2 to 2 hours. I need to ear right away. I have heard that it is important to eat something after a workout. I am usually eating before I hit my car

I usually stash some sort of protein bar and almonds in my bag. Sometimes sliced apples or carrots.

Does any one have other recommendations for re-fueling after a good work-out?

A bananna I hear is great. I have some chicken breast at home premade with a small salad.

I've been told protein is what you need after you workout. If you can't wait to get home you could keep some nuts with you.

protein and electrolites (i suck at spelling) somthing like oj or gatorade. i bet whole grains would be good to, they help you keep your blood sugar level and are very nutritious.

My club has a restaurant, so sometimes before I leave for work I will order a glass of milk and I carry protein powder (chocolate) with me and just mix up a quick "shake". This really helps me recover quickly, has very few calories, and nourishes my muscles. I notice I don't ache, now!

I usually eat an apple before working out, just for some extra energy, as I do work out at the end of the day. I drink lots of water while I work out, and when I'm done I usually try to get home as fast as I can, and eat a mix of protien and carbs since I've heard your body is still burning carbs like crazy for about 90 min after working out hard. But I do still keep the carbs complex.

Also, I heard on some show that protien bars often have too much sugar, or sugar substitutes ( and the taste of sweet actually makes your body react like it's sugar) in them, and most of the time it's almost better to eat something like a snickers, which has tons of protien and vitamin e from the nuts.

The best thing for muscles post workout is a mixture of Whey Protein Isolate (fastest absorbing protein) and some simple carbs (sugars).

I just bought Optimum Nutrition %100 whey double chocolate. I did 2 scoops with 8oz of water. Cold water tastes better. Ive had some nasty protein shakes but this one is the yummiest. Dont need the extra calories from milk to mix it either. 24g of protein per scoop too.
