    Default *Whine*

Ok.. I need some help here, people. I'm swollen and mad as hell about it. When I was pregnant with Delia, I lucked out and didn't get swelled up until like the last week or two, so this one's started earlier. I don't have much longer, but these last few weeks will seem like an eternity with my feet and legs like this.

I can't wear my shoes anymore. I'll probably have to break down tomorrow (er.. Today) and get some new shoes, that are 2-3 sizes bigger (I'm normally a size 5/6, depending on the shoe).

Dan is going to my Doc's office tomorrow to pick up some more Prenatal Vitamins, and he's going to mention the swelling to them. But, other than sitting on my ass with my feet elevated (Which I can't do, with Delia running around of course), does anyone have any solution to this? It's really painful to walk because even my toes are swelled up like vienna sausages.

Pics are below. They are not for the faint-of-heart. Especially in the last one, you can see the swelling best, because I was standing.

    Help.

Oh man, Rhia they look so painful. I wish I could make you feel better
Unfortunately, that's SO gonna be me in a few months and I am not looking forward to it one bit.
Have you tried one of those foot Jacuzzi's?

I guess I'm not the only one that can't sleep though. I was up untill 6am yesterday. I just couldn't sleep no matter how hard I tried. Now here I am at 2am on SW eating macaroni & cheese, lol.

So I actually read something disturbing about feet and pregnancy in one of my books last night. It said that your feet get permentaly stretched when you're pregnant, and your feet could be an entire size bigger after pregnancy. I really don't want to have to buy all new shoes please tell me this is a myth

I tell ya, Girl.. This is not a happy part of pregnancy... LOL.. The end has always been the worst for me. I was going to go to bed, but then I remembered that I had to take my vitamin (I take it before bed every night, it's easier for me to remember that way). Then, I realized that I had to eat something beforehand because he won't let me sleep on an empty stomach (and he won't let me keep the vitamin down if I don't eat either). So I had a sandwich and chips, and took the vitamin. Now I'm sitting here, wide awake. Ugh.

I'm going to look into the foot jacuzzi thing. It sounds like it'll provide a little relief. Or I'll at least try to start soaking them at night. Dan massaged my feet earlier, but the relief went away instantly as soon as he stopped. I hope my Doctor's office can tell him what will relieve it when he goes later. They're just so damn painful. I think you can see in the pics that I have a cut on my left foot. I did that last week--didn't feel a damn thing and noticed it like an hour later. So if it makes any sense, you can feel the pain on the inside, but on the outside, your feet and legs are totally numb.

The only real relief I get is when I go to bed. I prop my feet up on a pillow and sleep that way. But, of course, as soon as I step out of bed in the morning, they swell right back up. Gah.

About the foot size.. It varies with different pregnancies and different women. I've been lucky enough to stay in the 5/6 range, but I know others who have grown a size for every baby they've had. There's not much you can do, sadly. You can just hope for the best. LOL

I assume your doctor has been routinely checking your urine for protein. I wouldn't want you to be pre-eclamptic.

    Aawww you poor thing.

One thing I know is a gentle natural duiretic is alot cranberry juice and alot water. I doubt it would take it all away but it might relieve some of the presure at least.

I hope ya feel better soon.

This is EXACTLY what I thought!! My friend was swelling a lot 3 weeks before her baby was due (and her test came back negative for protein) and then all the sudden...BAM! Pre-eclampsia.

    Definitely get it checked out.

Other than that...I would say DON'T get a foot spa...the warm water will bring MORE blood flow to the feet. Put your feet up and use some cold packs. I know you can't put your feet up all day, but if you do it for 10 minutes here and there...with cold packs...it'll probably feel a little better.

If you haven't already, up your water intake a bit.

Magdelena...not every one swells. I didn't get any of that with Makayla...and this pregnancy is going the same way. Don't focus on the negatives aspects of the pregnancy...just think positive.

    Good luck, Rhi!!

Thanks, Everyone. I'm not too concerned about Pre-Eclampsia.. My levels have been great, and my blood pressure, if anything, has been running low. They test levels at every appointment. This is just the homestretch and the swelling is a bitch. I didn't get it with my first 2, but with Delia and this one, I'm Bigfoot. LOL

I'm carrying ALL in the front, so there's bound to be pressure. But this is effin ridiculous.

My Brother-In-Law's girlfriend had Pre-Eclampsia and had to be induced, but it was exactly on her due date (Thanksgiving) last year.

Dan's got his day off today, so I won't have to worry about chasing after Delia. Hopefully if I just keep my feet up for most of the day (although just sitting here constantly kills me), it'll alleviate some of the pain and swelling.

Bleh. 3-4 more weeks.. I just keep telling myself that.

He and Delia are headed to my Doctor's right now to pick up the vitamins, and he's going to ask them about the swelling. My appointment isn't until next Wednesday, so hopefully they'll have some kind of advice for me.

I thought that much swelling was usually a sign of pre-eclampsia? But I don't know that much about pregnancy obviously so I'm sure your doctor knows what he/she is doing. Hopefully they can tell you something to help it becuase that looks really uncomfortable! I have about your same shoe size so I know how swollen your feet must be if they are a size 5/6 and look that puffed up.

Either my mom or my aunt told me that their feet permanently changed size after pregnancy. I do know my aunts vision actually corrected itself after she had her sons. She didn't have to wear glasses anymore. Really weird!

Maybe try to cut out salt too? I don't know much about the rules of what you can or can't take, but maybe some ibuprofen or something like it? Yes, drinking more water is good, but I've also heard not to drink very much within the hours before you go to bed, because that can cause edema. I really don't know. The thought of ever being pregnant scares the shit out of me.

I very rarely have salt.. I can't stand the stuff. LOL

Dan just called. They told him that I need to stay off my feet as much as possible, and push fluids. The Nurse looked at my chart and saw that the baby had already dropped, so she said that adds to the pressure and that it's perfectly normal at this stage. She said if it gets really unbearable, then I can call them and they can push my appointment up. I'm going to try and tough it out, but I'll still whine about it, of course. Heh.

Again, for some women, feet change their size permanently, but I've been lucky so far. Now I've probably cursed myself and will have duck feet for all eternity.

alright girl...PUT THE BOOKS DOWN!! lol No that doesn't happen to everyone..SOME woman gain a shoe size, but most don't..I didn't. I'm still a size 8 with a very narrow foot.

Rhi, Your doctor said what I was going to, push the fluids and put your feet above your heart. Also, if you can get hubby to massage your feet...kind of rub/squezzing them towards your heart, it'll help release the fluid and let your body get rid of it. You can also soak them in epsom salt foot bath.

Lol, You're right Sassy. No more books for awhile. They just keep putting more worries in my head. I have ugly feet as it is. I already wear size 9, so if I go up a size I won't ever be able to find cute shoes again. God, size 10 feet
I think I'm going to do what Venus said and think positive. I guess there really is no need to worry about something that might not even happen. So I'm not going to think about my feet untill unless I have to.

Rhia, I hope they start feeling better soon. If you can't use a foot spa be sure your husband is giving you lot's of foot massages. Are you allowed to soak your feet in epsom salt? Maybe that would help?

Rhi, I'm pretty sure there's something about it in Susan Weed's Wise Woman Herbal for pregnancy... I would look it up and tell you, but I had to get rid of it.
