    Search Open After Hours

Well this if my first post so Hello. I am a barback at a Gentlemens Club in South Texas. As of last night I dont want to work there because of the owner wanting us to stay open till 4!!!! A.M. Heres the story....

Last night a popular club reopened and half of our staff relocated over there. So I come in to work saying hi to all the girls and what not. As I am putting ice and stocking up beer the day manager says hello and mutters.."oh yea were open till 4 today"I stop right where I stand nearly bumping the bartender with his drinks.I ask and the manager if its just tonight since the popular club tonight has their grand re-opening. She says no this will be set in stone. First thing I say is this is my last night.I explained to her that this is my second job asisde from being a manager at a store. I dont need to be here till 5 A.M. I have a family and house i want to be in sleeping. She says she didnt know either until she got here. The owner just made it happend without any meeting. So how it works is we sell non-alcoholic drinks till 4. Well I tell my close friends who are dancer and they are in the same shock and awe I was in. I then find out more information for the dancers and they said they would keep a few only after 2. Well during the night it was alright. It was Super bud Tuesdays. Made decent in tips. By 2 a.m when we close all the girls were gone but one who was on stay making tips by the only 2-3 customers left.Alot of us told her to just get off. She complained she was making tips which she was and I dont want here not to make money. But do it when we are actually working this is just dumb. We all want to go home. We eventually close earlier than 4 since the owner wasnt around. (See the thing is the club is right next to his house.Hes just like 1-2 mintue walking distance from the club. All there is between it and his house is his garage.Going back to the story I had already stocked up everything, cleaned, said bye to the girls and escorted some of them to their cars. Once I get back in its just me,the bartender, and the night manager talking about how its bullshit. We dont get paid overtime. These girls need to be home at 2. Some of them have baby-sitters waiting for them to get home. Others have school or work the next day for the once who have a day job.The night manager was talking about how he told him he was gone that the only reason he stayed that night was because he didnt find out till he got there. Same position I was in & the night bartender. He said the owner told him he would give him a raise and what not but he told him do that but he would still leave.

So long story short(hehehe I needed to rant to something)Would any of you Dancers, bartenders,DJs, anyone from the club work those extra hours or leave? Would you say something about it to the management or owner? What about the Better Business Bureau?

On a side note I wouldnt mind breaking away from it. Financially I can survive just fine and it would give me time to rest and have time to myself. But since my management job is so time consuming I liked the club because it gave me a social life. Before I would just go to work and come home in a repetative cycle. I can say i have changed a bit since working there. It funny how people react to when they find out I work at a strip club. Well thats about it. Thanks for reading this long post to all who reply.

I guess you've lai all of the pros and cons out there it's for you to decide. Does the club stay open till 4 every night or is it just fri and sat?

I worked at a club in Houston that stayed open till 5 on fri. and sat. That took some adjusting, however, we had the option to go home at 2 if we wanted to. It doesn't seem really fair that you weren't informed of the change before you showed up to work.

How many bar staff are really needed after 2 though? It seems like one or two people could probably handed pouring water and cokes.

    Good luck.

    A. They said its every day till 4 a.m.

B.Yea it was real unprofessional of the owner to make an huge adjustment to the schedule like that.

C.At most we have 2 bartenders and 1 barback from wens.-saturday. Mon,Tues, and Sun. we only have 1 bartender and 1 barback.

    D. Yea I usually will supply myself with an answer when I ask for advice like this. But it still smart to get others opinions.

It's good to vent. That's why I'm so grateful to the SW community. I'm going through a situation w/ club management right now. Whereas it would be easier just to quit the club and move to another, I love the club and this is the first problem I've had. While I wouldn't exactly classify myself as close friends with my co-workers, I do find myself somewhat attached in the sense that I would rather work w/ them than the other club up the road.

I think that when clubs stay open after 2 yeah theres still some money to be made, but after 3am business tends to die down to the point where it's not cost effective to keep on going. This isn't Vegas we're talking about, it's South Texas.

Maybe after a while, the owner will find out that it's not bringing in that much more money- if any and will change the club hours back- or at least close a little earlier. I'm sure you're not the only one who doesn't like this and it would be in the owner's best interests to keep his employees happy. Who knows what goes through their heads though. Right now I'm a little puzzled myself as to what's happening and why at my own club.

I always stop by after my first job to the club to say hi and what not. Like i said it gives me a sort of a social life. I found out that the manager got his raise and stayed. They are going to try it for a week and see how it works out. It was slow today. I stopped by the new club where all the old emps. work at. Its nice but real small. Everyone was asking how were things back over at the club im at. I just commented its just been 2 days too soon to tell.

On another note im sorry to hear what is going on at your place. If you need to vent too I will be around as well as the SW community.

Even though the club doesn't pay over time, they still have to pay you for your time.

I'd say give it a couple of weeks, tops. Once the owner realizes that his payroll expenses are skyrocketing and his income is not, it will be back to the 2am closing time.

Even though you feel that your pay isn't that high, what the owner pays to keep you as an employee is roughly double what your hourly wage is. Let's say that only 6 employees a day have to stay the additional 2 hours a night. That equals 12 additional labor hours on his payroll. So an aditional 84 payroll hours a week. Even if the average wage of the employees is only $6, his cost is more like $12.

$12 x 84 additional hours = $1008.00 a week. In order to make those labor hours work, he needs to be bringing in an addtional $8-9000.00 in sales a week. It doesn't sound like that is happening.

Don't worry, he'll change his policy right quick like, unless it gets very busy all of the sudden.

Gee thanks thats real statistical. I was actually trying to come up with the numbers to present him why it would be a bad idea.

As a dancer, working an extra half hour at the end of the night was great- except I live TWO hours away from the club I work at. My brother was a barback there, just like you and he was FURIOUS! lol We didn't get home until like 6:30 in the morning because he had to do the same shit you have to do . I was exhausted all the time and after getting slapped with a fine, the club took the half hour back. I was complaining because it was mandatory and wasn't discussed with anyone but himself . (the owner) After the fine and alllll the girls bitchin' things were back to normal. Note: the club got a fine because you have to have everyone out by 4 am. Try rushing 30 girls with hundreds of ones out in a half hour! lol
Ok, back to you...... you like the 'social life' but not the hours. Is it possible for you to find another club?
