    Default Flavored waters????

I konw there has been a lot of threads about water weight, butI have specific quesitons. I know in order to not retain water you have to drink a lot so that your body doesn't think it has to hold on to it. But I can't drink just plain water, I have a hard time with it. What about those flavored waters? Is there enough sodium in them(and is sodium the same as salt?) to make you retain all that water you are drinking? I drink the Aquafine Flavor Splash bottles(each bottle contains 140mg of sodium). I don't know if that's a lot or if I keep drinking them if it will make me retain all that water. I want to lose the water weight, but keep drinking a lot of it. Help????

do you like sparkling water like pellegrino or perrier? That way you don't get all the chemical sweeteners and flavors. You might as well be drinking diet coke with some of the flavored waters.

I've tried these little flavor packets you can put in your water or sparkling water. I guess they are about the same as drinking flavored water maybe? I don't know what the effect of only drinking flavored water is though.

^ This is your best bet. The flavored waters can cause you to retain water...but some of them have sucrose or fructose in them...which is pure sugar.

I used to hate drinking water...but now...I drink lots of it. I love lemon and lime in my water with ice. Don't focus on how much you hate water...just focus on how good you feel when you drink it!

The water is hard at first because we are generally used to a lot of sugar. Spend a week drinking 8 glasses a day, and you will wonder why you ever didn't like it, and Coke will taste like drinking cola flavoured syrup.

If you drink water...and you have this film left on your teeth...you know it's not healthy for you.

One word of warning on the flavored water, some of them can have a fair amount of sugar, usually in the form of fructose. Vitamin Water for example has approx 15g of sugar. If you don't mind fake sweeteners, then things like cristal light work, but I find theyalso do a nice job of programming people to seek out sweet things in general, and studies support that observation. I like diet iced tea myself. Cold water also increases calorie burning and metabolic rate:

    J Clin Endocrinol Metab. 2003 Dec;88(12):6015-9.

    Water-induced thermogenesis.

Franz-Volhard Clinical Research Center and Helios-Klinikum-Berlin, Medical Faculty of the Charite, Humboldt-University, D-13125 Berlin, Germany.

Drinking lots of water is commonly espoused in weight loss regimens and is regarded as healthy; however, few systematic studies address this notion. In 14 healthy, normal-weight subjects (seven men and seven women), we assessed the effect of drinking 500 ml of water on energy expenditure and substrate oxidation rates by using whole-room indirect calorimetry. The effect of water drinking on adipose tissue metabolism was assessed with the microdialysis technique. Drinking 500 ml of water increased metabolic rate by 30%. The increase occurred within 10 min and reached a maximum after 30-40 min. The total thermogenic response was about 100 kJ. About 40% of the thermogenic effect originated from warming the water from 22 to 37 C. In men, lipids mainly fueled the increase in metabolic rate. In contrast, in women carbohydrates were mainly used as the energy source. The increase in energy expenditure with water was diminished with systemic beta-adrenoreceptor blockade. Thus, drinking 2 liters of water per day would augment energy expenditure by approximately 400 kJ. Therefore, the thermogenic effect of water should be considered when estimating energy expenditure, particularly during weight loss programs.

I used to have trouble drinking a lot of water too but now I feel dehydrated if I don't drink a lot of water. I still drink some diet coke and tea but I always drink a lot of water too.

Yes you do get used to it, at first I actually felt nauseaous after drinking so much water. But now I feel parched if I don't have at least a litre a day. Sometimes its easier just to carry bottled water with you. If I know I've had 4 bottles of water in a day, I've gotten my 2L whereas with glasses it's easier to lose count.

I've got a filtering thing on my fridge, so I'm gonna start filling up bottles and putting lemon and lime juice in them and keeping them in the fridge so I can just grab and go if I need to. And while I'm at home I'll just keep one next to me so I'm constantly sipping on it. yay, a new goal haha, Thanks

Did you know that by the time you are "feeling" thirsty (NEEDING to drink water) your body has already lost about quart of water? You are already dehydrated. So, you are dehydrated before your body even gives off the "drink" signs.

And, most people mistake thirst for hunger. The next time you are hungry...but don't know what you want to eat (or even if you do) drink a serving of water. If the "urge" goes away, you quenched your thirst...if you still feel hungry, then eat something. But, it's always good to satisfy any thirst cravings before you eat.

I didn't read through all the replies so this might've already been said:

Try iced water with lemon juice....
Or just try iced water on its own....and after a while, just get yourself used to drinking more...I remember years ago I didn't drink much, but then I just tried to deliberately drink more and more...and now i'm just sooo used to it. I'm like a camel!

Or even better, steep a cup of green tea (lots of antioxidants! those things will help keep away cancer....and will improve your chances of looking hot when you're an old lady...it's great for your skin....but that is if you take it over time. there's no miracle tea out there that does wonders overnight). Pour that tea in a glass of cold water with lots of ice.

I think you should be careful about drinking the "diet" or "sugar-free" flavored water drinks...they might do you more harm than good. lots of them have fake sugar, like saccharin or aspartame or splenda.....and there have been studies showing how those ingredients gave some type of cancer to lab rats. yes, rats dont have the same physiology as do humans... and maybe the rats were fed a huuuge amount of that stuff, and that's why they got cancer....I don't know...but maybe it's better to be overly cautious. Now I try to avoid diet coke as much as possible because I think my body doesn't feel as good after drinking it....maybe it's all partof my imagination, but that's just what i think.
And if you want all the electrolytes that some of those power water drinks have, just take a multivitamin, and a magnesium and potassium supplement, and add a few dashes of salt...so your body will be in good shape....especially after a sweaty work out (your body looses magnesium in its sweat)

oh, and get some of those hard plastic "nalgene" bottles...find it in the camping section at walmart..and use those....they're really re-usable...with the poland spring or those other plastic bottles, traces of the plastic gets into the water....that might be bad over time...(and especially get more of that if you keep the bottle in a car on a hot summer day, then drink out of it...hot plastic will seep into the water more...the micro particles...).... the nalgene,e tc bottles have a much harder plastic...it might say "8" on the back...wheras milk bottles are softer..they're a plastic number "1" or "2" the higher the number, the harder the plastic

How about Vitamin Water? I don't have a problem drinking regular water but if this is around I'll drink it like it's going out of style!

^ Most of the vitamin water has loads of sugar (anything ending in -ose is a form of sugar). No, they're not really healthy.

And, Green Tea is not bad for a daily drink, but it DOES contain caffeine (which is a diuretic) and will dehydrate you. There's nothing wrong with drinking Green Tea after lunch or whatever, but you still need to drink your daily req of PLAIN WATER plus one cup extra for every caffinated serving (one can of pop is a serving and a half) you drink.
