    WWW College

    Okay,
In a couple of weeks I will be moving about five hours away from home for college. I'm 18 years old, and have worked normal part time jobs since I was 15, busting my ass for little to nothing past getting by. I want to be able to dedicate most of my time to school, so I was looking for a job that I would only have to work a few weekends a month to have my bills paid and was wondering if dancing would be the answer. My bills don't add up to much - about $520. My mom used to dance when I was younger and she mentions even now that she's never been happy about a paycheck she's gotten since she's stopped dancing. I know about all of the shit that comes with it because of my mom's experiences, and I think I can handle that. For the most part I am a confident and attractive and friendly girl with nice sized breasts and a proportional body. What is making me skeptical is that it sounds too good to be true that I will be able to pay my bills and still have enough free time to focus strongly on school. Am I hoping for too much? I have asked my mom about when she danced but the amount she made sounds like more than what I read about on here - but this was also about 9 years ago. I'm just worried I'm going to be dissapointed and even worse I'm not going to be able to make my car payment once I get up there. I live in Texas, by the way. Anybody have any words of wisdom?

Depends on the club and how well You hustle. But yes there are potentals (Sp?) to make good money dancing. If You work a few weekends a month I'd say You will definitly have enough money to pay You'r bills and possiabley even have extra money left over.

Just sum words from My exsperiances....

I'm in college full time (18 credits, 5 days a week) and I dance only about 2-3 days a week while I'm in school, and pretty much full time in the summer. My bills are a lot more than yours (about $1000 a month because I have some credit card debt). If you find a nice club and learn to hustle, you definetely will be able to work just a few days a week and have more than enough money to pay all your bills and have money left over for fun and savings.

    Congratulations on starting college!

Just don't work more shifts than you can handle....and ideally maybe keep sundays free so you can catch up on a good amount of homework due during the new week? You want dancing to be overall beneficial to you, not something that totally messes up your mind and eats up your time.

The beginning of college can be a little overwhelming as is. So, maybe you'd want to start dancing a couple weeks after college begins, so that you can have some time to "settle in" to your dorm, making friends, figuring out the campus, courses you'll take, etcetera.

Try looking at several different clubs....audition at several, see which one accepts dancers under 21 (i'm assumingyou're under 21)...see which club has the "feel" that is right for you.
Also, get your dancer gear first...go to a dancewear store, try on the shoes...then maybe buy them online (for cheaper, usually) if you know the brand, style, size, etc... And practice dancing in a mirror and practice wearing the new shoes! good luck

From what I hear, texas is good money. Even he it wasn't, you could work two nights a month and say those bills. Also, you'll have supportive family. You have a great situation to start dancing and save up money for a house when you're done with school!

When I was in school fulltime I generally worked about 6-10 shifts a month and was fine for the most part. Just stay focused . . . I didn't and it took me forever to graduate (of course, I was in Austin which has the effect of drawing out a BA to six years for most folks).

I worked while I went to university full time last year. I think working weekends is a good system, but don't let yourself get behind in readings, assignments, etc. It does sound too good to be true because you haven't danced yet. The money and the flexibility ARE amazing to a college student. It's all the bullshit you have to put up with in the club that makes the money seem like more of a fair deal than a miraculous gift, in my opinion.

Thanks guys! My step-dad used to DJ at all the strip clubs in Houston so he had alot of information also about which ones would be better to start out with, and safer for a younger and less experienced girl who hasn't learned all the ropes.

OMG I have no idea how you do it. Do you have a social life or bf? I wish I could be more focused and really get it over with. for you.

^ My boyfriend is in college full time and also works 40+ hours a week. He also has a 3.4 gpa, we go on dates frequently, and he has time to train with a martial arts master.

I'm very impressed by him. bleh

To TM: I do have a bf that I live with. I don't know how I do it either... lol..... not much sleep at all... hehe.... That's why I work full time during the summer (at least 15-20 ten hour shifts a month) so that once school starts again I don't have to worry about money if I need to take time off of work to concentrate on school. It kinda sucks, but only one year to go... yay!!!! lol...

My mom pulled out her dancing bag today and gave me ALL of her costumes including a $600 gown a customer bought for her that still had the tag on it. They were all very gorgeous and luckily I am the same size she was when she danced. Some of her shoes had a few scuffs from the stage but I'm going to work on it. Thank God I won't have to audition in a pair of platforms I grabbed from the sale rack at Payless and a Wal-Mart thong. Haha. For some reason it was only slightly strange that my parents sat and watched their baby girl prance around the house in mommy's stripper clothes. I'm excited to try them out.

For some, the first week or two may be a little dissapointing. I started off slow, day shift at a blue collar titty bar, then went to nights where $300 was considered a rare, kick ass shift.

When I finally got the confidence and learned the basic rules of hustling, I went to a more upscale club. Even then, it took me a few shifts to learn how to sell well to that crowd.

What I'm trying to say is even if you're not making the kind of money you want to when you start, don't get discouraged. You may just need to hang in there a little longer! But, you'll probaly hit the ground running. You already have a couple of great resources; a family that is supportive of your choice and SW!

    hahaha that's so funny!

anyhow, based upon the amount you said you need to pay your bills, you can make that in 2-4 shifts even in a shitty club. At the right club, you can make that and + in one night. You'll have pleeeenty of time for school.

Well, another plus is that you won't have to break those shoes in...lol. I'm in the process of breaking my shoes in but it's hard...I have to stay up late and stumble around down here in the basement all night so my parents won't see me...lol. Having supportive parents is SUCH a lucky thing! Good for you! My mom was so dissappointed when she found out I had waitressed in SC's before that she almost cried! Maybe I'd feel a bit dissappointed about it too except that nobody helps me pay my bills and it's gotta get done somehow...lol. Good luck sweetie!

Haha. Thanks, Femtexan (I almost abbreviated that to Femtex before I realized that "Femtex" is a brand of dollar store tampons, oops! hehe)

I know I'm really lucky to have supportive parents because some of the emotional stress dancing can have sometimes just doesn't mix well with having to deal with family issues because of it as well. I couldn't do that. NOW, my big brother is another story.

He's already got his shotgun loaded and a full tank of gas.

    Can't win 'em all.
