    Default 2 Centimeters!

So.. I just got back from my Doc's appointment. I had the fun fun Strep B test. Ugh. I also found out that I am 2 Centimeters dilated. Yikes! If I make it to next week's appointment, we're most likely going to move up the date of the C-Section, because who knows how fast he's going to try and come out.

Please send "Wait a couple of more weeks, Hunter" vibes, Everyone! He's not done cooking yet, and I want his lungs to be ready by the time he breaks out.

awww rhi i hope he simmers a lil longer!!!!! but you know, there are things they can do if worse comes to worse.. my mom went into labor with my sister at 24 weeks... so they shot my sis full of steroids in case she was born-- because of that, her lungs were fully developped when she was born a month early...

My son Noah came at 37 weeks.. He weighed 7 lbs 3 oz... They told me he weighed 6. Going into labor at this point wouldn't be the greatest thing ever, but it also wouldn't be the worse...

BUT I hear you!!! Stay put Hunter, it's too hot out here.

^Technically, I'm only 35 weeks though. My ticker reflects my C-Section date. So, it's way too early yet for him to come out. My earliest baby, however, was born at 24 days before my due date, and she was fine. But, I'd like to cook him as long as possible, so he'll be nice and healthy.

The C-Section is scheduled for 38 weeks. Mainly because it's my 3rd C-Section (4th baby), and because I've never gotten more than 15 days before my due date.

I know this is a tad bit off topic and a bit personal, but why is no one doing natural births anymore? I hear lots of stories about how women only want to set a date to have surgery... :/

Well.. In my case.. 2 Previous C-Sections pose too great of a risk to attempt a VBAC. Even if the Doctor was right there, in front of me during delivery, and my uterus ruptured.. It would kill the baby, me, or both of us. That risk goes up with every C-Section. Believe me, I'd love nothing more than to do a VBAC. The recovery is quicker, and I'd avoid major surgery. Also, I wouldn't be stressing over the prepping.

I attempted a VBAC with my last baby. That failed when my uterus failed to contract. So, that is why I needed the second C-Section.

My Second baby was frank-breech (butt-first), so that was my first C-Section. They couldn't attempt to turn her manually, because I had a shunt in place due to Hydrocephalus.

My first baby, my Son, was the only one I had natural.

So, even though this is an elective, and scheduled C-Section, believe me, I'd rather be doing it vaginally. I envy women who can do VBACs. I would give anything to switch places with them.

    ::sigh::

^ Rhi cannot due to some issues delivering.

I'm doing an all natural drug-free vaginal home birth. I had an all natural vaginal birth with Makayla (with pitocin) in a hospital and decided I would never do that again, soooooo...

Ok Hunter listen to me, stay in a while longer ok. Just a little longer. Don't hurry up and come out ok? I tried to come out early three times. It is all the same when you get here. Your going to have to wait for a lot of the fun stuff anyway. A few more weeks is not going to be a worry little guy. Anyway once you get out, it is a one way ticket. Anyway, you won't be having coffee for many years, so enjoy it while you can!

If you ask me these fetuses are coddled WAY too long. I mean, what does he think you're going to look after him for his WHOLE life? Mama's boy! In my day fetuses were out, walking 5 miles to work everyday at 35 weeks. Through snow. All the while battling wolves.

I understand your choice now, due to your situation.

What bugged me with other women is that they choose a surgery to get the baby out EARLIER just so they don't gain more weight or "ruin" their body. The mothers... grrr. If you're going to have a baby, I think you should be selfless and not care about the changes a pregnancy brings about.

Anyways, best of luck and happiness to you!

I know where you're coming from. Most hospitals these days, however, will not allow a Doctor to schedule a C-Section until 2 weeks before they plan to do it. So in most cases, the baby is delivered "full term" at 38 weeks (remember, they add the extra those two weeks in to bring it to 40, in case the dates are off). So they're technically not "early", but right on time.

My C-Section is scheduled for 38 weeks, but there's no guarantee I'll make it that far. I have a history of very impatient babies.

Elective C-Sections used to bug me too, especially if it's the first baby and there is no risk with a vaginal birth. I'd always wondered why a woman would opt for surgery and why on Earth she'd want to deal with the weeks of recovery, instead of getting it over with the regular way. At first I thought it was vanity, but that really can't be it--even though the incision is made really low in most cases, you're still left with a scar. So, I really don't know why anyone would just opt for a C-Section if there was no need.

Like I said though, I'd gladly trade with someone who was able to do a VBAC. I took the failed VBAC with Delia very hard. I was an emotional wreck when my Doctor came in that morning and told me that since I had no water left (it had been leaking all night after breaking before we rushed to the hospital all excited), and that they couldn't induce me with Pictocin (it'd risk uterine rupture), I'd need a repeat C-Section. I was looking forward to doing it myself, and it's a major let-down when you learn it's just not possible. It took my Husband, My Doctor, 2 Nurses, and a Med Student to calm me down because I took it that hard.

But in the end, for me anyway, it doesn't matter how the baby gets here, as long as it's a safe delivery, and he or she is healthy. I've learned to be proud of the scars, myself.

^Yeah, nowadays, elective C-sections are the trendy thing to do. Doctors love it b/c it's at their convenience (no being called in at 3 AM to deliver), and it's harder to sue them b/c it looks like they took all precautions. People don't know what they're getting themselves into, as a C-section now creates a whole new battery of problems. I know girls who had their first baby young, opted for a C-section because they were scared of the pain, but then grew up, had another kid, wanted the experience, but couldn't b/c of their previous decision. Doctors really need to educate people about the future risks in order to help the mother decide if it's worth it, b/c it's not a choice if you're not given all the facts or browbeaten into it.

I don't know - obviously people should be given all appropriate information, but I actually can't see why women can't or shouldn't elect to have a C-section. To me it seems like a perfectly viable choice, and statistically I thought it was safer for both mother and child? Is that wrong? I'm obviously not a medical person, so that could be wrong.

Most people don't know the facts, so doctors just take the easy route or just go along with what the customer, er, patient, wants. I have a friend who's an L&D nurse, and she says that she abhors frequenters who demand all sorts of tests every day becasue they just know (mostly from magazines and hearsay) that their babies are at all sorts of risks, and the doctors just go along with it so they don't get bugged or threatened to be sued. It's just like doctors who just break down and give a round of antibiotics to kids because the mother is screaming that her baby needs them, never mind that antibiotics don't cure colds. Put yourself in their shoes.

Childbirth risks are overrated. It's only been happening for hundreds of thousands of years. Once in awhile, you'll come across a quack doctor's journal who makes claims like, "The human vagina was not meant for birthing, so we must cut it open, spare the mother, and sew it up even better than it was before." I'm not kidding.
