Earlier this year I attended a memorial service for the minister of the church I used to attend. I have not been attending any church since she retired a few years ago. She passed away last November, but her daughter was scheduled for surgery very early this year. As her daughter needed six months of rehabilitation after the surgery, the service for her mom wasn't held until a short while ago.
Her daughter had to have spinal surgery, and either had to wait for a cadaver donor, or the doctors would otherwise use plastic and other artificial materials - but as it happened, they did find a donor - who turned out to be her late mother! During the service, as her daughter was talking about her mother, she mentioned that "a lightbulb went off in my head" when she was told the donor was an "almost perfect genetic match to you." That's when she checked and found out the donor was her mother. She said during the service, "when I told all of you my mother walks with me all of the time now, I literally mean she walks with me!"
I'd talked with her mom(our retired minister) on the phone two weeks before she passed. And she was feisty as ever, for being in her 70s, so I was pretty shocked when her daughter called me re: her mom passing. Anyway, our minister was in the hospital last November for something minor, and then per her daughter, was gone in less than 48 hours from some kind of infection.
As to the minister of our church, I know she missed her husband terribly, who had passed several years earlier, and wanted to see him again. But to me, it's almost as if she decided to sacrifice herself to both protect her daughter and to be with her husband again - because I know it was her belief she would be with her husband and other loved ones when she passed. It's just too totally bizarre to me to be chalked up to coincidence!
