    Default Weird Weight Gain

    Hey Ladies,

Don't know if you've ever been through this before. Last few years, I've been @ a desk job, and I've gained ...30lbs (!!). I've gotten so busy with work that I don't eat regularly and my exercise went completely out the window. I've managed a few workouts, but I can't get into a consistent pattern due to work. I feel fucking pathetic because I used to be a fitness trainer... ARGH. On a 4'10" frame, 30lbs is way too much. I used to be about 82lbs, now I'm about 112. The weird thing is, I used to gain weight relatively evenly- all over my body. This time, I'm gaining it mostly on my stomach and upper hips. UGH! I was wondering if this has happened to anyone before, where your weight gain pattern has changed drastically.

Yea thats what happens when youre on your butt alot...all the chub seems to gravitate towards the lazy parts. Gaining wieght differently is also part of getting older.
A few easy things to help you get started:
*Make healthy meals in bulk so you can grab-n-go
*have your gym bag, clothes & shoes ready in your car at all times
    *control your portions

Dont have to tell ya much since you used to train but you get my drift. Ive always gained my wieght in the same places but its just harder to get off now. I think loosing wieght so easily and quickly is the only thing I miss about being a teen.

I'm just alarmend because I'm not gaining weight like my usual style- this pattern of weight gain is totally unusual for me.

I don't eat a lot... it seems the key for me to weight loss is to get off my butt and exercise. I do eat healthy, with lots of organic veggies, etc. I just don't eat regularly. I think I'm going to schedule alarms of my cell phone to alert me every few hours to eat something...

ARGH. I guess I'm in need of motivatin and support. Who here lives in the San Diego area and needs a workout partner?

How old are you and what ages did you notice this gain? It could be age.

I just turned 31. God, am I old enough that my weight gain pattern is starting to change? Most of my clients reported seeing weight gain pattern changes 1)after pregnancy or 2)in their late 30's. I'm still barely in my 30's.

I'm hoping it's not age, but the fact that I'm sitting on my ass all day now (whereas before, most of my jobs required me to be on my feet a lot more).

I think I'm just so panicky over change in general. I'm paranoid that I'll *never* have my old body back again. I should just take my own advice that I used to give clients and to focus on my health and setting small goals and appreciating small victories. ARGH.

I feel your pain. I think that it is a combination of age and your desk job. I am 29 and I have a much harder time now staying fit then I ever did in the past. I also have one child which I think changed things a bit. When I had an office job I noticed that I had to be very careful not to gain weight. I am sure that you already know this, but all of the sitting really slows down the fat burning process. To help keep my wieght in check I would do cardio for at least 30 minutes every morning on empty stomach before I went to work. At work I would try to take 5-10 minute breaks and I would go in the bathroom and stretch and do squats. At lunch time instead of taking a lunch break I would go for a walk. I would not break a sweat, but I would walk for about 20 - 30 minutes. I would have a healthy lunch of mostly fruit and lean protein at my desk. In the evenings I would do weight training or pilates. I also would try not to eat after 7 PM. I think the more important thing me was to try to keep myself moving during the day to make up for all of the inactivity in my office. I hope this helps.

We lost muscle mass as you get older, which also slows down metabolism, so I'm going to focus on a bit more weight-bearing exercises (for my bone and muscle mass) in addition to cardio.

I've been shocked because the weight gain pattern was completely different- and so quickly. I'm used to hearing people tell me that it happened slowly (unless it was post-baby weight). Even most of the office jobs in the past didn't keep me locked and chained to the desk like I am right now...
