    Default yay for roadtrips

So on Monday I will be driving about 11-12 hours. I'll be out the door by 6 am and hopefully arrive in the other town around 6pm. For all you guys who have made looooong car trips, what are some good tips to pass the time, what are good snacks to bring, etc. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Oh man.. Have a good trip. We visited here (Memphis) in '02, and we drove it from our Home State of RI. It was a 19-hour drive. We drove straight through, only stopping to eat and stuff like that. Make sure you have a radio or CD player with lots of CDs. It's probably a good idea to pack a cooler too, with a bunch of drinks, so you don't have to stop for them. You can also grab little snacks everytime you fill up on gas. Keep yourself fueled as well as your car.

Last year, we ending up moving here, and drove again. This time was different however, because we had our daughter (she was almost 2 at the time). So, what was a 19-hour drive the first time, turned into a 2 1/2 day adventure. We had to stop more, of course, to let her stretch her legs, stop at restaurants, and we also stopped and stayed in a hotel overnight about mid-way through.

Whenever we filled up the gas tank, we grabbed snacks and drinks for the 3 of us. The U-Haul didn't have a working radio, so that made for a very quiet and tiring trip. We also hit a major snowstorm/ice storm in Ohio (this was APRIL FOOL'S DAY too!). So, that delayed us a bit because not only was the Husband driving the U-Haul, we were also towing our car behind it.

Whatever you do.. Don't stop at Rest Stops, no matter if it's daytime or night. It is way too dangerous, and out-of-state plates are targets. If you get tired, pull into a well-lit restaurant, even if it's a Burger King, McDonald's, or whatever, and take a few minutes to rest. Make sure your doors are locked.

Are you doing the trip solo? If you are, you have my sympathies. It's so much easier when there's another person, and it keeps you awake.

Yup, all solo. I'm afraid of the rest stops too haha. I'll be trying to just go to well lit busy gas stations that are well kept, and it will all be during daylight that helps.

Ah, yes, porn. Everyone wants to get pulled over by the cops with a copy of "Extreme Cream Pies" playing in their DVD player.
