So,
I was out to dinner the other night with one of my best girlfriends. Love her to death, but god KNOWS we disagree on some shit. However, the other night, I had to set her straight.
We were discussing women's issues (a favorite topic of ours), and on the complexities involved in rape issues and whatnot, especially when it comes to those who work in the sex industry. So this is what she tells me:
"The other day, I was reading this story about this woman in the adult industry. She did porn, she saw guys as an escort for obscene amounts of money, and she also toured around the country making various appearances at strip clubs. Recently, she was supposedly out on a date with a client as an escort, and she claims that she was raped by him. And you know, I'm sitting here thinking, 'Okay...you've fucked god knows HOW many men, showed your hoo hah a bajillion times, and then all of a sudden, while you're out on a date with a customer who you're supposed to be having sex with anyway, you're crying rape?'"
My eyes BLAZED. I said, "EXCUSE ME?? Oh, I'm sorry, so since she voluntary participates in porn or voluntary exchanges sex for money, she can't be raped? What, is it because sex should just be AUTOMATICALLY expected of her, and when someone does and she's not willing, they should just be able to TAKE it and she just has to SHUT UP? So if she's with a guy, and she decides that she is uncomfortable with this man or just does not want to go through sleeping with him, it's okay for him to just TAKE it???"
My friend started stammering. I said to her, "You listen here, and you listen good. I do not care HOW many times you have jiggled your boobs in someone's face, or HOW many men you have fucked, even if it's on freakin' national live TV...when a woman decides she DOES NOT want to have sex, then NOBODY has the right to force that on her!!! Just because she's done it 1000 times does NOT mean she doesn't have the right to say NO when someone wants it for the 1001st time. It's attitudes like YOURS, that she's just SUPPOSED to be okay with it because she's a sex worker and that no one's going to believe her because of her work status, that's why so many women who get raped in the sex industry won't report it!!! So NOW what do you think of this woman? Still think she couldn't have possibly been raped?"
She looked away, ashamed and shook her head no.
I mean, goddammit. I'm not saying the woman is necessarily telling the truth. But don't assume she's LYING simply because she works in the sex industry!
That just BURNS me!
Anyone else feel this way or come across this attitude in various forms?
Sorry...just had to rant about this...

!!

.
Uggghhh!!! It's even more aggravating that ignorant beliefs like that are comming out of the mouths of other women!
