    Default Food Poisoning

And pregnancy don't mix. I spent all last night and most of today throwing up. Not fun. Now, though, I feel like I can actually put something in my stomach, but the thought of food makes me feel sick even though I am hungry as all hell!!

What would be good to put in a completely empty (and traumatized) stomach???

I'd follow the BRAT diet. Or chicken broth.

I am now...I tried earlier today and it didn't stay down. It seemed that ginger ale helped my stomach feel better (the carbonation??).

The BRAT diet? Is that Banana, rice, apples, toast?? I will do that...I really don't want chicken (or anything related to it) since it's what I got sick off of.

Yeah, banannas, plain rice, applesauce or unbuttered toast. I hope you feel better. Food poisoning sucks, I can't imagine it while pregnant.

I would've been the ginger more than the carbonation that would have been of help to you. Ginger is great for whenever you are ill. Just listen to your body.... what cravings does it have at the moment... and start off with liquids.. soups etc.. then bread... and so forth.

I suggest drinking one of those Bolthouse Farms brand (no sugar added) Strawberry Banana drinks. I tend to get them whenever I haven't been feeling up to par and they always settle really well... and taste great. They're made with actual real fruit so they are somewhat filling too, moreso than, say, water or ginger ale.

omg, sorry but bananas after violently vomiting...yuck!

I would go for a plain baked potato maybe with a tiny, little bit of butter and salt just enough for some flavor. And some saltine crackers are always good.

Gatorade to replace hydration and electrolytes. 7-UP/Gingerale for nausea.

nasty as it is, pedialyte is actually a lot better for dehydration than gatorade. excessive vomiting can often lead to dehydration, which the body than usually tries to deal with by...vomiting more. weird. anyway, if you can keep a bit of pedialyte down it should help a lot.

Jeez, I know how you feel. I'll bet you honestly feel like eating nothing. If I were you, I'd try just liquids for now...maybe a bit of broth like veggie or beef, since chicken is a no-no atm. Keep hydrated too. I'm not sure about you, but when I am sick and try to drink anything that is sweet or even water, I feel like hurling. Take some ginger gravol, it's natural and doesn't make you sleepy and doesn't have any "drugs" in it at all.

i have to second the ginger suggestion...especially candied, as it can be sucked on and it makes the taste a bit less strong. helps with nausea. i hope you feel better soon VG!

Ok...I feel 100% better today. I didn't want to eat anything last night...nothing...but, I ate 3 bananas, 2 bowls of rice (with a tiny pinch of Sea Salt) and 4 pieces of toast. Can you tell I was effin hungry? LOL

I felt much better after my stomach was full. I didn't want to eat too much, but ate when my stomach felt ready for it. (I made the rice at midnight, LOL). This morning, I woke up and I felt like normal, which is good. I never had an ounce of morning sickness and seriously sympathize with any pregnant woman who has morning sickness...especially a pregnant woman who has morning sickness and a toddler who keeps "trying to help".

Thanks so much for the suggestions!! I am drinking some pedialyte today, though, because I am so dehydrated (went to the doc today and my bp was 90/60...which is pretty low) so they said for 2 days drink pedialyte and load up on water.

So, feeling normal, if not a little dry, but much, much, much better!!

^ Yeah, my BP is usually about 110/80. The doc said that with being sick and dehydrated, it'll make the BP lower (especially since it was so recent...I just stopped vomiting yesterday) so...

Other than that, I'm fine. I'll go back in on Friday and they'll check my BP to make sure it's gone up...but it should be fine, then, as well.

^^^ Yes please take care of yourself sweety. As you know I just spent a week in hospital with dangerously low electrolytes, dehydration and protein malnutrition along with a few other things all related to the morning sickness i was suffering from during my pregnancy. I even spent 2 days in ICU, it was THAT serious.

    Happy you're feeling better though.

    Seraya.

It may be too late, buy my mom used to make me "Graveyard Stew".
2 slices of cinnimon toast in a bowl of hot milk.

I loved it when I was a kid but I gave it to my wife when we were first married and it was a NO_GO.

The old stand-by is soft boiled eggs.
