Default just a few newbie questions!

yes I searched! lol. (yay first post!)

Anyways, Im looking into becoming a dancer while I attend college for the money and sheer enjoyment. However, I have a few newbish things to ask you ladies.
-after dancing on stage / stripping, do you just simply gather your clothes and walk off? (I also plan on checking out some clubs to see what those dancers do.)
-what would a good "starting costume" entail? I've seen costumes all over the forums, but Im baffeled on what I should get.
-I know, when dancing you need legal thongs. The Newbie FAQ mentioned that they may be purchased at a dance store. Does the FAQ refer to, a regular dance store (one that has leotards, jazz shoes ect.) or strictly one that caters to exotic dancers?
-makeup!! Im NOT a heavy makeup wearer. (Kind of tomboyish actually) What does heavy makeup entail? or if you could direct me to a site with awesome makeup tips or examples that'd be great.
-lastly, thin vs. thick heels on the shoes. I've seen various stripper shoes, I plan on purchasing a 5" inch shoe. However, does the thickness of the heel, play a roll at all? Do the thinner looking heels just plain look more attractive? I'd personally feel more comfortable in a thicker heel and more steady on my feet.

Thanks for you advice ladies! Keep on dancin'

I would get 6 inch with a chunk heal for your first pair of a 6 inch boot with chunk heal boot is easiest to dance in.

    Well, here are my opinions/answers.

-- after dancing on stage / stripping, do you just simply gather your clothes and walk off?

I do. I'm flamboyant so I smile and wink at the crowd, grab my clothes, hold the next girls hand to help her on stage and I always take the back exit to the dressing room as opposed to coming onto the floor (if your stage has a back room door).

--what would a good "starting costume" entail? I've seen costumes all over the forums, but Im baffeled on what I should get.

Probably depends on your persona and looks but... Can't go wrong with a tube dress or a skirt and bikini top set.

--Does the FAQ refer to, a regular dance store (one that has leotards, jazz shoes ect.) or strictly one that caters to exotic dancers?

As far as I know, exotic dancer stores. Depending on where you live, there can be a lot or none haha.. I know of about five in Columbus right now.

-makeup!! Im NOT a heavy makeup wearer. (Kind of tomboyish actually) What does heavy makeup entail?

--astly, thin vs. thick heels on the shoes. I've seen various stripper shoes, I plan on purchasing a 5" inch shoe. However, does the thickness of the heel, play a roll at all?

I prefer thicker--I feel more steady. And I, personally, feel they look more attractive. But it's an individual choice.

-- after dancing on stage / stripping, do you just simply gather your clothes and walk off?

~Thats what I do, the dressing room is right near the stage so I just walk off and get dressed and freshened up in the dressing room between sets.

--what would a good "starting costume" entail? I've seen costumes all over the forums, but Im baffeled on what I should get.

~It depends on where you decide to work. If you work in a gown club you HAVE to where a gown. If you work in a regular SC then do what I did. Go to a local shop that caters to exotic dancers and try on different kinds of styles of outfits and just buy what flatters you most.

--Does the FAQ refer to, a regular dance store (one that has leotards, jazz shoes ect.) or strictly one that caters to exotic dancers?

~Im almost 100% sure it refers to an exotic dancer shop. Regular dance stores don't really have a clue about our industry and most of them point their noses up at us because to them we're not really "dancers"....

--makeup!! Im NOT a heavy makeup wearer. (Kind of tomboyish actually) What does heavy makeup entail?

~It depends on what your look is like. I know a girl in my club that puts on TONS of makeup but looks really really good, and then theres this girl that doesnt where any makeup except for concealer for under her eyes and lip gloss! And it really works for her, I hear alot guys complimenting her "natural" beauty....

--Lastly, thin vs. thick heels on the shoes. I've seen various stripper shoes, I plan on purchasing a 5" inch shoe. However, does the thickness of the heel, play a roll at all?

~I definitely think you should start with a 6" heel. The thickness doesnt really matter. I like the thinner heels but right now because I just started dancing I wear chunky heels to make sure I dont fall. Eventually (hopefully sooner than later) I get into some thinner heels. But dont go with a 5" because they'll hurt your feet, legs, and back more than the 6" will. TRUST ME!

Good luck and I hope I was a bit of help to you!!!

wow, thanks ya'll this was a ton of help!

and, is there any special reason that 6" inch shoes won't hurt your back as much? ect.

I always wear a 7inch Tony mule, have from the start and just find this most comfortable. Different styles are right for different feet, postures etc- also if not used to a heel better to try a 5 or 6inch first- chunky and sturdy to begin with

As for the make up, I always wear a full face even to the store so I wear the same just in an evening style- sparkle, stonger colours for work, if you dont wear a lot of make up then keep it natural but strong. Perhaps go to MAC or Bobbi Brown counter, they will suggest different looks and perhaps give you some ideas

    Best of Luck hun!

-after dancing on stage / stripping, do you just simply gather your clothes and walk off?

I like to get at least partially dressed on stage while the next dancer comes on, I don't like to walk around stark naked - especially if the stage isn't super close or connected to the dressing room. But you usually aren't supposed to leave a stage empty - so you should wait for the next dancer, but once she's there, you should be out of her way immediately.

-what would a good "starting costume" entail? I've seen costumes all over the forums, but Im baffeled on what I should get.

Something that's easy to dance in. I think bikini sets are easy to remove, and then maybe add a mini skirt - super easy to step out of. If you like dresses, those are very easy to strip from also, but don't give you as much "business" to do on stage, if you're worried about not having moves.

-I know, when dancing you need legal thongs. The Newbie FAQ mentioned that they may be purchased at a dance store. Does the FAQ refer to, a regular dance store (one that has leotards, jazz shoes ect.) or strictly one that caters to exotic dancers?

It would cater to exotic dancers. You can also buy thongs from stripper websites, just check with the club if they do have requirements. The won't if you're at a nude club.

-makeup!! Im NOT a heavy makeup wearer. (Kind of tomboyish actually) What does heavy makeup entail? or if you could direct me to a site with awesome makeup tips or examples that'd be great.

It's up to you how much makeup you should wear - but the ladies above gave some good tips

Ya, you're right, thick heels offer a little more stability - but I agree with you that the stilettos are more attractive. I'd go with the thicker though, at least at first. No customer will really care anyway. And I definately would at least try the higher heels. I wear 6" but one time tried to work in a pair of 3" heels, cause I thought it would give my feet a break - it was so much more uncomfortable.

I think the 6" are easier to walk in, easier on your back, legs, and feet because the platform is higher so your foot isnt so much on a angle. Your really only walking/dancing on 3-3 1/2 inches. I wear 6" Pleasers with the ankle strap in all clear or all black and they have done me good so far. The only muscle pain is from dancing, but no calf pains, no feet aches, and no back aches either....
