    Default Mel Gibson "apolgoy"

I'm sure most of you have heard about Mel Gibson's drunk driving arrest and his drunken comments against Jews. I was just wondering, do you guys think it is an actual apology that he really means, or he is trying to reverse the damage done to his career by the anti-semitic comments? I just got the new issue of People magazine last night and read the article on him. He says to the arresting police officer, "The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world. Are you a Jew?" and "F------ Jews". I also read about past comments he has allegedly made. I almost feel sorry for him. It says he has already been shunned by a large part of the entertainment world and Barabara Walters announced on The View that she would no longer watch his movies.

I personally think he is more concerned about his career and that is the main reason he apologized. I mean, most people are the most honest when they are drunk. I think he may actually believe in those awful things he said.

He made that "christ" movie. He must expect some backlash from it... I know I'm not the only one who no longer liked him due to that movie. I'll watch his pre-christ movies as he was okay then however anything after it.. no thanks! Then again, never been that huge on him anyhow.

I guess Australia isn't claiming him as one of our own now huh?

That's what I think too. I dont think he did it because deep down in his heart he's sorry..he's doing this so that his career won't go down the tubes.

Well, I read that he was born in New York but they moved to Australia to avoid that draft in the 60s. I never knew he was even from here originally.
I never saw The Passion of the Christ. It just never even interested me.

His father founded a newspaper that praises the Inquisition and suggests we bring it back. Basically, they belong to a branch of Catholicism that doesn't recognize any changes the Vatican has brought about since the mid-1900's. They still do the Mass in Latin, women still have to cover their hair, they still "fast" every Friday, and they still believe that the Jews are Christ-killers who deserve execution.

What's really sad is that the local media in L.A. seems to have the opinion that this is no big deal and he didn't really do anything wrong, because EVERYONE drives drunk and hates the Jews. What's even more depressing is that they're right.

Then the local media is in denial of thw worldwide wisdom that in Hollywood to be successful one must not denigrate the Jews. Gibson's stature will never be the same.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.

I heard that Jodie Foster said to lay off Mel saying that he doesn't hate the Jews he just says fucked up shit when he's drunk and that he's trying to deal with his problem.

I'm reserving judement-- I want to see what happens next. It's hard to see someone who was so cool in the movies before turn so conservative as they age.

But ever since my friend read me some of the things Mel said I can't help but repeating to friends and myself, "What are you looking at, SugarTits?" <---supposedly said to a female officer.

He shouldn't have said it. But I've definitely lied while drunk. But his past and father don't support his case either. Luckily, I rarely watch movies, so this is no skin off my nose.

I don't think people show their true selves when they are drunk. They show their mis-firing neurons fucked up selves when they are drunk. There are plenty of people who make "bad drunks."

I mean, one's logic and emotion are not up to par when fucked up on anything.

He probably means it to apologize like that. He is taking steps to try and make sure he doesn't find himself in that position again.

Hollywood will cry and moan for a while and then when it comes to making money again - many many people will forget about him. I think his main interest are his fans and the people who will see his movies - it isn't like the studio system has been a big help with his last two movies.

I also think that the media is picking at low hanging fruit instead of focusing on more important things that takes work to write and research about.

Alchohol unleashes the id, the unconscious. When you're raised by a father who filled your head with anti-Semitic vitriol, and you have a drinking problem, what does one expect? A normal, measured response?

I found Mel Gibson's apology to be that of a sincere and responsible man trying to make amends for having done wrong. And he so does not make me cream in my panties, nor has he since The Year of Living Dangerously, which came out when I was like, eleven, so you can't say I'm biased.

Eh....I've never made racist comments when drunk, but I've done plenty of embarassing stupid crap when intoxicated that truly didn't fit with my normal state of mind. I'm sure he is concerned with his career....who wouldn't be? That really is such an odd thing to focus on when complaining while intoxicated. That's what blows my mind. That aside, he has some people from the Jewish community who are on his side...saying "Seriously, he's not like that." I'm going to leave it up to them to decide. Regardless....I like him better than David Duke

I felt that Mel Gibson was a major asshole for saying what he did. And I felt that his apology was very appropriate. I won't excuse what he did, but I will accept his apology. The world would be a better place if more people would take responsibility for their actions. (Of course it'd be an even better place than that if those actions weren't taken in the first place, but hey.)

If I don't believe that Jews caused all the wars, and I don't, I'm not going to say I do just because I'm drunk. Maybe that's just me, and I'm a more rational drunk, and other people say shit they don't really believe.

He said it, and even if he meant it, he apologized handsomely. What do we expect him to do - change his mind? Go back in time and believe differently? An apology and a promise to behave better is the best we can get for now. Move on.

Mel forgot the , as described in Spamalot.

I guess I cant really judge a man I dont know from a few drunken statemens that came from his mouth . We can speculate all we want if he is trully sorry or not ,only he knows the answer . It was wrong to be said period .I have said many drunken words of wisdom that I have regreted or forgotten the day after . In his position and being said on a documented police report it is kind of obvious to me why he apoligized as to the sincerity of it ?

I believe he is truly sorry he offended the Jews, I do not believe he is truly sorry for what he actually said. He was raised to hate Jews, are we supposed to believe that an alcoholic had the mental fortitude to break the cycle of hate or this was just a lapse in judgement on his part due to his 'illness'?

I bet the Nazis wish they had come up with that excuse at Nuremberg.

The man is a psycho, do you think it's just a coincidence that 95% of the characters he plays have mental issues? Should we really be surprised by what comes out of his mouth?

One cannot use characters to figure on the actor. Some of the character actors who portray villians are actually he nicest people.

And of course, some of the people who portray the nicest people are complete lunatics in life.

That's fantastic, but we're only taking about one guy, not the entire acting profession.

Yeah, a "good man" would naturally be hanging around bars with beautiful young starlets, getting wasted while his wife and five children wait at home. Then any "good man," once he was done partying with girls half his age, would drive drunk and get belligerent with the police.

Antisemitism aside, the whole scenario doesn't sound like a "good man" to me.
