    Lightbulb Cold Feet

Ok.. I don't literally have cold feet---They're still swollen and I can't feel them. I am, however, having cold feet about the C-Section (For those keeping count, it'd be my 3rd C-Section in a row, 4th baby).

I had my weekly appointment today and it went pretty well, except for the fact that the only progress I've made is that I'm almost thinned out completely. No further dilation. I'm still at a 2. The baby is very very low though, so the Doctor expects some progress by next week's appointment. The Group-B Strep test that they did last week was negative. I got those results today. Wasn't worried about the results being positive or anything, but it's good to know either way.

I've been doing a lot of thinking since the appointment though. This will be my last baby ever, and I've been stressing so much about the C-Section (Prepping, the C-Section itself, and the lengthy recovery that I know far-too-well.), and I'd really like to attempt a VBAC again. Granted, when I attempted it last time with Delia, it failed. My water broke the night before and we rushed to the hospital all excited. Waited all night, and not one contraction came. I think that if it fails again, I won't be as disappointed since I've had the repeat C-Section planned from the start of this pregnancy. I know that my Doctor would let me try, because we'd discussed it in the beginning, so that's a non-issue. But I plan on discussing it with him at next week's appointment. I'm a good candidate for a VBAC, even with the 2 prior C-Sections. Both incisions on the uterus were made in the low transverse way. That method is prime for VBACs. The scars can also work to my advantage, by "toughening up" the uterus, making a rupture less likely to occur.

Although the scheduled C-Section is convenient, and I'll know exactly when I'll be having the baby, I just really want to try and let him come on his own.

They can't induce contractions with Pictocin or any other kind of medications, because that would increase the chance of rupture, so that's something to think about as well. If contractions don't happen, and I spend all night in the hospital again, I'll have the repeat C-Section.

With 2 prior C-Sections, the chance of something going wrong is only up 2% from having 1 prior C-Section, bringing it to a 4% chance. So, it's a slight risk, but a risk nonetheless. But seeing as I'll be in the hospital, and they'll know it's a VBAC2 attempt, I'll be very closely monitored as well as the baby (how he handles labor and contractions, etc..) and they'll be ready for an emergency C-Section. So, that's another plus.

I don't know what the point of this thread is.. LOL.. I guess I just need to sort it all out. Any thoughts?

I read this site's section on VBACs and Repeat C-Sections, and it's excellent:

I really think you should do what you instinctively feel. If it's no danger to you or the baby to attempt a VBAC and you really want to do this, again. I say do it. As you know, discuss it with your doctor, but if he's already open to the idea, I think you should definitely try it.

As for your feet...make your man massage them for at least 20 minutes a night to get the blood flow going (keep them elevated).

Always attempt to have the birth you desire with a back-up plan...which it seems you have.

I cant say, since ive never had children... but I would worry about you enormously if you tried a VBAC because of the risks, BUT if you're willing to see what happens, then I guess it cant hurt to try, as long as everyone ready for the chance of a c-section.... keep me updated babe, and good luck!!!

Thanks, VG.. I told Dan earlier that I was thinking about it, and he said "Damn woman.. Make up your mind." LOL

Then he said "Well, you know.. It wouldn't be good for me because we wouldn't know when it'd happen" (He was kidding, of course) haha

I just want to make every effort to avoid the prepping, the surgery and the down-time afterwards. Also, reading that site I also found that C-Sections get harder with every one you have, because they have to go through a lot of scar tissue to get to the uterus.

Also, I found that uterine rupture can happen even if I'm not in labor and/or having contractions. It can happen at any time, just from the pregnancy and the strain it puts on the uterus. There's a little added risk with contractions, but hey, if I'm already at risk just by being pregnant.. Why not just attempt the VBAC? Like I said, I'll be closely monitored, and he will be too, so I feel we'd be safe for me to at least try.

I'm definitely talking to the Doc about it next Wednesday. I almost felt like calling him when I got home, but I figured he'd be busy. LOL It should be done in person anyway.

(Thanks Honey *muah*.. I'll be sure to keep you updated)

Having seen your poor, swollen feet, I can only imagine you don't want to hear what I have to suggest. If you are interested in VBAC, a natural way to stimulate contractions is to have sex. Hormones in the man's semen can help trigger contractions. If you get the added benefit of an orgasm, the hormones your body releases can help as well. I also tell ladies to walk as much as possible. Let gravity help you out. Good luck and happy delivery...whichever method you choose.

Let me tell you, my last 3 weeks of pregnancy (I was 3 weeks late with Makayla) I walked 30 minutes every single night...sex almost nightly...ate some spicy foods, and did the deep breathing exercises. The only thing I didn't do was jump on a trampoline. LOL Depending on the inherent stubborness of your child, you'll go into labor when the kid is good and ready. LOL

I also read that the body does not go into labor if your body is "out of balance". It's a theory, but worth looking into, as well.

LOL Thanks, boxingdoc. My poor Husband has been attempting to get all freaky for about 2 weeks now, but the position of the baby has got me so turned off and uncomfortable. He's so low, and last night, I could've sworn he had an arm or something right there in the hoo-ha, that he kept wiggling around. It was so uncomfortable and weird. LOL

My Doctor just laughed at me when I told him that today. When he did the internal, he said "Wow.. He IS low.. He's getting ready!" I just said "Gee, thanks for your sympathy, Doc." Haha

When I talk to him, I'm going to ask what methods would be safe for me to try (to make things go quicker). I don't want to really try anything without asking him, because I'm not sure how the labor will be tolerated yet.

The internals should help things progress, right? Because he brushes the cervix and bag of waters. I heard that helps with dilation. I hope it does anyway. With my other 3 babies, I never made it to my weekly appointments, and have never been checked for dilation before this time, either. So, I'm clueless as to if it helps at all.

I know I've been feeling crampy, and I've heard that's completely normal after internals.

I try to keep active and all, and keep moving all day.. But this heat is just killing me. With Central AC that doesn't work when we need it (afternoon, early evening), it just makes me so damn lazy and I just want to lay on the floor in front of the fan.

VG.. I'm going to get Dan to massage my feet for me tonight, and he's even going to paint my toenails.. Haha (He's weird.. He actually LIKES doing that for me, and he does them perfectly). I put on 2 pounds from last week's appointment. They said it's due to all the swelling in the legs & feet.. Ugh.

I am excited for you, definitely talk it over with the doc, but if you can attempt it safely, and want to, then go for it! Can't wait for updates
