Ok.. I don't literally have cold feet---They're still swollen and I can't feel them. I am, however, having cold feet about the C-Section (For those keeping count, it'd be my 3rd C-Section in a row, 4th baby).
I had my weekly appointment today and it went pretty well, except for the fact that the only progress I've made is that I'm almost thinned out completely. No further dilation. I'm still at a 2. The baby is very very low though, so the Doctor expects some progress by next week's appointment. The Group-B Strep test that they did last week was negative. I got those results today. Wasn't worried about the results being positive or anything, but it's good to know either way.
I've been doing a lot of thinking since the appointment though. This will be my last baby ever, and I've been stressing so much about the C-Section (Prepping, the C-Section itself, and the lengthy recovery that I know far-too-well.), and I'd really like to attempt a VBAC again. Granted, when I attempted it last time with Delia, it failed. My water broke the night before and we rushed to the hospital all excited. Waited all night, and not one contraction came. I think that if it fails again, I won't be as disappointed since I've had the repeat C-Section planned from the start of this pregnancy. I know that my Doctor would let me try, because we'd discussed it in the beginning, so that's a non-issue. But I plan on discussing it with him at next week's appointment. I'm a good candidate for a VBAC, even with the 2 prior C-Sections. Both incisions on the uterus were made in the low transverse way. That method is prime for VBACs. The scars can also work to my advantage, by "toughening up" the uterus, making a rupture less likely to occur.
Although the scheduled C-Section is convenient, and I'll know exactly when I'll be having the baby, I just really want to try and let him come on his own.
They can't induce contractions with Pictocin or any other kind of medications, because that would increase the chance of rupture, so that's something to think about as well. If contractions don't happen, and I spend all night in the hospital again, I'll have the repeat C-Section.
With 2 prior C-Sections, the chance of something going wrong is only up 2% from having 1 prior C-Section, bringing it to a 4% chance. So, it's a slight risk, but a risk nonetheless. But seeing as I'll be in the hospital, and they'll know it's a VBAC2 attempt, I'll be very closely monitored as well as the baby (how he handles labor and contractions, etc..) and they'll be ready for an emergency C-Section. So, that's another plus.
I don't know what the point of this thread is.. LOL.. I guess I just need to sort it all out. Any thoughts?
I read this site's section on VBACs and Repeat C-Sections, and it's excellent:
