    Default The age factor

Ok you all....I know I'm opening myself for a lot of differing opinions, but nonetheless, I'm asking.....

First off, I'm a newbie here on the board. God I wish this site had been around when I first started considering dancing (or wish I had FOUND it?)....just to think of what I'd done differently.

I didn't start until I was 27. I had always wanted to, but just didn't think I "had what it took" to do so. Ironically, I married a man who was a frequent patron of strip clubs who convinced me otherwise, and that summer, I started dancing. Mind you, this was AFTER I had 3 kids (my youngest was 2). I quickly came to love it, and ironically NOT because of the money (although, I can't kid myself, it was a wonderful bonus!) See, I'm a dancer at heart. Took many years of dance growing up and dreamt of dancing (not stripping, per se) for a living. I always felt so free onstage and there was just something about dancing for men who loved to watch that made me love it that much more. Truth is, I miss it! I think it was probably the job I really enjoyed the most! Bullshit and all......

I quit dancing (that's a whole 'nother thread), but have really missed it and am seriously considering....no, DETERMINED....to go back to it. But I know I have to also be realistic. See, that was 4 years ago. I am 31 now. The only thing I have a bit of anxiety about is my age.

I'm curious....how old is too old? Age is easy to lie about to customers (what the hell do they know the diff?), but getting your foot in the door when you're not "in the prime" anymore, I don't even know about that.

So tell me....what's the age of the oldest dancer you've known? What are key aspects to consider when determining what is "too old"?

Too old is only when you say it is. I can't tell anyone what too old is. If my boyfriend's grandfather can re-tar his roof by himself at ninety-nine, then you can dance at thirty. You're only as old as you make yourself.

Girl! I danced for the first time at 38! It was a blast - no one seemed to think I was too old! I quit because my poor body went into shock - but I finished an 8 hour shift in 8 inch FMP's... and I've never been more proud - not even when I got my Master's Degree.

Sweetie, if you think 31 is old, consider this: I have been dancing for almost 8 years and I feel like I'm just now reaching my prime. I'm 29 now...If you have the looks, body and, most importantly, the personality, age is a very insignificant factor. Go for it!

The majority of high income earning "dancers" are in their late 20s to 30s .... "Lucy Blue" is older than you and does well enough for herself (she's an aussie stripper on here).

I'm 27 going 28 this year... and I have always felt ever since I was 26 I was reaching my prime. I didn't get any of that "you're as young as my daughter" BS to deal with... guys were more comfortable dealing with someone like me.

As for "looking" older, well... if you know how to dress and do your make-up right.. you can appear younger than your actual age. Plus it is also how you act/behave.

31 is not too old by any means. Unless you look older than your age, that is.

I met this dancer a few weeks ago who was such an inspriation....35 and dammit if she didn't look 19! Perky naturals and all. Holy crap, it blew my mind, made me jealous, and inspired me all at the same time.

All the best dancers I know are 29+.

<<<<Plus it is also how you act/behave.>>>>

God is that ever true. OT story for ya.....hubby and I went to a club that had recently been changed and we hadnt visited since (we moved out of the city for a couple years, so we hadnt been to ANY clubs). I had told him "first girl that actually USES that pole, $10". Girl gets up on stage (I'm assuming she was in her mid to late 20s) and starts dancing, AFTER the 2nd song of her set had already started (felt kinda sorry for the girl before her - she was pretty pissed). She was pretty good on the pole, but her overall sensuality sucked. Not long after, she startes dancing for me -- AND LICKS MY EYEBROWS! How freaking wierd is that? Anyway, as she's starting to work her way over to hubby, she spills his water everywhere...mind you, this is AFTER she asks him if it's vodka and says "damn I was gonna steal a drink".....She's obviously loaded. She then proceeds to ask me for a cig and lights it...ONSTAGE! Then knocks my beer over on her way off......anyway, my point is, I had plent of money to spend that night -- she got NONE of it. Great use of the pole, but the behavior deemed my money elsewhere.

Too old is when your body can no longer handle dancing, and can no longer retain acceptable beauty. At least IMHO... I know plenty of 30+ dancers who kick much ass in the business.

Hi there, 36 year old stripper here!

I got an email from classmates.com inviting me to my 20 year reunion in 2007. I've got to say that, that is a little disconcerting. But i'm still happily stripping.

I just started, less than 2 months ago, and I'm doing pretty damned well. No one ever guesses my real age - the guesses range from late and mid-twenties all the way down to early twenties, even! When customers insist on finding out how old I 'really' am, I ask if they can keep a secret, I smile and look around, and then whisper in their ear, "I actually just turned 30!" The response is "No way, really?" 90% of the time. I'm 34. That'll probably remain my standard 'real age' answer for the rest of my dancing career.

There are a few girls in my age range at the club. I've done pretty well for myself physically, not only from a lifetime of classical dance, but also healthy eating, yoga, never never ever tanning, and not TOO much in the naughty substance department. While there are some undeniable biological advantages to youth, I certainly have seen the girls who are technically in their chronological 20's but because they don't take care of themselves, they look much older than they are.

GO FOR IT! Especially since you have the experience already. You'll be so glad you did!!!

I started 5 yrs ago...I'll be 33 in 2 weeks. Im getting to the point now where I'm easing myself out...mostly because I dont have the patience for it anymore. Guesses usually range in the 24 yr old range..I dont look my age thankfully! And I still bank.

So if you are still enjoying it, and still making good money...why stop?
People always ask me, did I ever learn anything when I was a stripper? Yeah, I did. One man plus two beers equals 20 dollars.

Keep yourself in shape. If this means going to the gym then go! I work out at least three times a week. (Started dancing at 27, now 3. I'm in the best shape I've ever been but I do have to work on it.

But it's worth it, I have to admit ti does make me feel good to look beter than most of the 20 somethings I work with!

A number of customers (including me) are more comfortable with more mature dancers -- late 20s, and 30s. They haven't lost a step on the physical front, but are a lot more mature and interesting.
I once encountered a great looking dancer who I thought was probably in her early 40s and had a great time. Later she told me she was 50 -- I am not sure that's the truth, but if it is she was one great looking 50 year old.

I'll chime in with another customer perspective. 31 isn't old enough to be a per se age concern. You can't get a perfect preview, but if you're actually harboring some paranoia about your appearance, post some photos in the picture post section down in the 'off topic' area.

I just turned 30 and just started dancing 3 months ago. People never think I"m 30, they usually say they think I"m around 22. One way to stay young looking longer is to stay out of the sun and out of the tanning bed. That's always been my secret. I know strippers love to have a nice tan but you have a nice looking tan out of a bottle and will keep soft, youthful looking skin. Go for it!

Just ditto-ing the sunless tanning thing. ^^^ Those products have come a LONG way! I just started getting a professional airbrush every few weeks and supplement it with lotions in between treatments (I'll scale back a bit after the summer - it does get awfully pricy).

The other big one for extending youth is a tough one if you're a smoker, but it's an unavoidable truth. Smoking=wrinkles, period. The sad thing is that I quit 3 years ago (after smoking since I was 15), but have gotten in the VERY bad habit of having a few smokes during my shifts at the club to calm my nerves. I've gotta kick that ASAP! Seriously, look at some middle aged women who have been lifelong smokers. Not pretty.
