Default "i hate my job" BLAH

i was sitting with a customer the other day and another dancer came to join us, which i have no problem with at all.

so we're all talking and the man asks her if she likes her job. she has this snobby look on her face and goes "ummm no". i was surprised she said that first of all in front of the customer. so i spoke up and was like "well, i LOVE my job!" and she looks at me like im crazy and is like "oh my gosh u actually like this job? why?" and at this point i was started to get aggrivated so i said something like "well if i hated it i wouldnt even be here, theres no point in working somewhere u absolutely hate" and the whole time shes looking at me like im retarted. then she goes into this big thing about how shes got 4 kids and its different when your being forced to strip and blah blah...oh and the customer is still sitting with us through this whole converesation.

basically, it really irritated me that this girl was trieng to act like she is some kind of sex slave or something and being forced to support all her kids...come on now, we're dancing naked, not being forced into sex trade. i understand some women have to do this to support their families, but you dont go around to the customers and tell them what a shitty job stripping is and how much u hate it. no WONDER she goes home with bull shit money every day.

she's an idiot...and she made you look a lot better to the customer. I'd be happy about that.

You handled her nicely while still coming off professional. She wasnt professional at all. I dont know where she thinks she is.....this isnt Cambodia. She should be thankful she works in America.

^^ Agreed. Even if she hates the job, it's not usually a good idea to tell the customer that. There are rare circumstances where confiding in a regular about her true feelings would be fine, but most men do not want to think that their fantasies are "unwilling." I used to break this rule every so often, but it was only with customers that I was having a regular conversation with (no hustle). This admission would only come after I'd established that he would not buy dances, and there were no other opportunities in the club. You know, those slow nights where someone buys you a drink and you sit and rant about life, commiserate back and forth, being somewhat supportive. Once, a customer said, "Well, I hope this will make your night better, put it towards your school books" and handed me $50 after talking about my classes, etc. Very rare.

To the OP....you did the right thing.

Emily's right, she DID make you look a lot better in front of the customer.

As for her saying she hates her job, I do not know how she normally acts, but...maybe she said this because she was having an exceptionally bad night and thought she'd exhausted all customers in the club for asking for tips/dances? There have been a rare few times that I've had a horrible night money-wise, and this put me in a very bad mood, and although I didn't show it for the most part, I'd kinda let my true feelings about dancing show a little if it was the end of the night and the only guys left were obviously not spending, despite me initially being nice to them...similar situation to the one xbloodydewdropx described...but I'm not anywhere near as bad as that girl did! She was very unprofessional! What I mean by saying that I've let some of my true feelings slip out before, is when customers ask me if I do anything else besides dancing, and I'd respond subtly with, "I started dancing to get through college and I'm doing this until I get a full-time job in my field. I really hope that happens soon. I hate my college because they took my money and then their career services center didn't do shit for me." I thought saying that was bad enough, and when I said that before, I implied hatred for my college more than for the strip club! Maybe the girl thought, in a very weird kinda way, that saying she felt forced into stripping would help her get a "sympathy tip" from the customer? I've seen/heard of a few girls trying this when they've unsuccessfully tried every other hustle tactic and are at desperate measures. The way the girl said that she hated her job, I can't see that "hustle tactic" working very well.

thats so stupid.....these guys are here for fun, not to sit there and listen to how u hate your job. i know some people actually do love this job, but they r few and far between. so for those who hate this job, either dont work there (cause u r making urself even more miserable) or just act like u like ur job so u are not a downer to everyone else..............thats just my 2 cents. but at least she made u look a lot better and u got some dances out of it or something..........lol

LOL this scenario reminds me of something that occured at a popular bar/diner place in my local area. A group of girls that I knew went to the bar/diner to eat(I wasn't there). It took like 15-20mins before the waiter even approached their table to greet them and take their beverage orders. He'd been idly chatting with his buddy over at another table during most of that time. The waiter was a tall, extremely good-looking guy with an affinity for body piercings, who worked there a lot and was a very popular waiter at that place. When he went over to them, he said "Sorry about the wait, I was just talking to my friend over there who stopped by to visit me. I'll probably be talking to him for most of the time, because it's not like I really care about my tables or anything." My friends were shocked!! Then it took too long for their grilled cheese sandwich platter to arrive, so they gave him a smaller-than-usual tip. Can't believe he did that! I guess he figures that he can ride high on his good looks to the point that he doesn't have to worry about manners or serving efficiency? Then again, there's a lot of young girls that tip him heavily simply because they think he's "cute" or they think they have a chance with them(heh, that's about as likely as getting a stripper to go home with you), so maybe that's why he developed such a big ego and careless attitude...

I hate when people say retarded things out of context, especially when you still have to keep your cool and be professional instead of slapping them and being like "girl whatchoo thinkin sayin that?" Haha. But really - the other night, I was waitressing at a nicer club, and I was sitting with a few guys who had been tipping me really well that night, and they had made sure to tip every dancer that went up, and on both stages, dropped a five in the bartenders jar and a few bucks in the door girl's jar, and were buying dances - not to mention gorgeous - they were the rare perfect customers - well, so anyway, I'm sitting with these four guys and another waitress comes and flops down in the other chair, which was fine, and we were talking and all of the sudden she glances at the main stage where a girl was dancing who was curvier than the cookie cutter type and hadn't spent hours on her hair or makeup but she was doing some crazy-hard pole tricks and she was a very talented dancer who had a good personality and usually did well - so anyway she glances at the stage and then comments - I can't beleive some of the dancers here, I mean there are some CHUNKY girls here! I want to throw up sometimes when I look at the stage. And she just goes on about how disgusting almost all of the dancers were and shit...I tried to save the situation the best I could but it was so lame of her. For one I'd like to see her scrawny ass get up there and do that and for another these guys were some of the rare customers that dancers actually enjoy and now when a dancer came and asked if they'd like a dance their whole fantasy is interrupted by bitchy waitress drawing attention to flaws....

    It WAY pissed me off.

If that had happened to me while I was with a customer I would've told her "well, if you hate it here so much then why don't you go somewhere else because Joe and I are having a great time right now and would like to keep it that way". What an idiot, that would've pissed me off too!

I hate that attitude. It's like the dancers that have never had a civilian job (not that there's anything wrong with that) and don't understand that if you are going to work in a job you hate then at least act like you don't. The other attitude I can never understand is the "I'm so broke, help me out" ploy. That one bothers me too. I knew a girl who'd just go from one customer to another with her sad story to try to get money. She would talk in the dressing room about what story she was going to use. Drove me nuts. Actually it only drove me nuts when it worked.

One of the most crackheaded girls I worked with got mad at a customer for inferring stripping was her most important job. (Usually she wasn't that maladroit.) I apologized to him since he was a nice guy who was sitting with me first.
Sometimes I've screwed up & complained to a customer, but the best fix for a bad time is, "Hey, you just made my night! I can't wait to dance for you!"

In my opinion, if she chose to have four kids she could only support by being naked, it's her own damn fault.

Nobody is forcing the stupid bitch to strip!! Yeah, so she's got 4 kids, so do a lot of other women!!!! I hate how so many girls in the business think that it is the only way to feed their kids, there ARE other jobs!!!!!!!!

Someone mentioned that some of the rude strippers who say these things, haven't had a regular non-dancing job. Well, the "I hate my job" thing has happened at regular jobs too, ESPECIALLY dead-end jobs. At Wawa(a popular convenience store/deli around the Mid-Atlantic states), there was this teenage girl who would randomly sing, "I hate Wawa, I hate my job" as she made the hoagies for customers! LOL I thought it was kinda humorous but the old-guy assistant manager would scold her for it, and those two always argued over silly stuff! Then my guy friend used to work as a supervisor at CVS. His job was a little better than the hell-hole cashier jobs, because he had managerial status, higher pay, full-time better hours(no nights/weekends), etc. He was the managers' "favorite" and because he knew that he could get away with it, would constantly tell the GM that he "hated his job" and the GM would usually respond with, "But K---n, we NEEEEEED you here!!! You're one of the best workers we have!" One time, he even said he "hated his job" on the day that the District Manager visited the store! Eventually he did get fired for saying "shit happens" to a customer, but I was surprised at how long his cockiness lastest.
