Angry you TRIED to warn me bout these PIMPS (rant)

Ok so here it is, my first official rant

If you remember, my very first post on SW was a question about "management" and if any of you are in a binding contract..and i got all pissed of when a few of you said "they sound like pimps" and told me to haul ass in the other direction..

(sorry this is gonna be lenghthy..)

Well, this weekend i was scheduled to dance (my VERY FIRST TIME EVER) at a club in NYC where i was "guaranteed" $2500, and supposed to give them $600.. well the trip fell throuh ..i missed them when they left, supposedly taking two other girls, but i swear i don't beleive they were ever there.. and so my "manager" is breaking his neck to get me a gig in the next biggest city to us, Charlotte..and assured me i'd come out with "at least $700" and that i wouldn't have to drive my car, which has no insurance, and is riding on a damn donut.. well, he ends up callling me back, asking me can i dance in the lil bitty city of HIGHPOINT..and tells me that someone will pick me up at the studio at 7:30.. also he tells me that he has spoken with the manager and yada-yada and i'll do well tonight, and "only" have to give him $200... so 8oclock comes and no one is at the studio, and i've just borrowed $80 from my mother to get my first outfit (which he said he'd "take care of" yeah right.) so i call the lil club, and they've never heard of him, and inform me that "strippers dont need managers" and laugh at me when i mention what i'm supposed to pay him.. and when i say he told me i wouldn't have to get onstage until i'm ready they basically tell me that "the girls don't make the rules WE DO"..so i drive my car out there, do my thing in this ratty ass club that plays rock n roll and COUNTRY music (and the owners wife says to me.. "uh, honey this isnt a BLACK CLUB) like, wtf is THAT supposed to mean anyway?! But anyway, there were like, 8 damn customers, and we had to do "dollar dances" all night.. and by the end i had like $140..more than some of the other girls *sigh* and when i go home, i owe my mother $80.. but here's the part you're gonna love..

NO SECURITY to walk us out (that was the main thing i was supposed to pay them for, was my own security guard to be in the club with me & walk me in & out & drive me..) and when i get to the car, our 20 year old, college-student slash "admin person" is waiting for me at my car with some big ass dude, talkin bout i owe them $200.. i literally fall out laughing and tell them both to kiss my ass and tell her to tell our manager to be prepared to hear from me Monday...

Oh i am so PISSED.. but you guys TRIED to warn me!! Sorry so long, but i am so damn mad!! ANd my car overheated on the way back home & i got even madder...pay you $200 FOR WHAT???!!! I drove myself, escorted myself, danced all f*cking night in a lame ass club that i would never ever go as a customer.. and i think they put me on a damn work schedule..

So as far as my conttact overall, i think getting a lawyer first thing Monday morning is my best bet, because even though i signed them, i bet there's a loophole, as weak as these mofos are when it comes to BUSINESS... ugh i am so MAD...

I don't think she's talking about suing them, I think she's talking about finding a legal loophole outta the obligation she has with them. If they're stalking her out at clubs and waiting by her car, that's messed up and scary. She could be in a really dangerous situation that way. A restraining order might be good, though!

Im in no way saying you deserve this but you do realise now that you've signed with a pimp its going to be next to impossible to stay in the same town and get away from him?

Your best bet is to pack up and move and stay low key for awhile.

You can try and contact the police and a lawyer but they are going to laugh at you, sad I know. They will just think 'oh a prostitute is trying to charge her pimp'. I know you wernt engaging in any sexual services and you were only dancing and modeling(if I remember right). I hope they dont think this but chances are they will. Considering the publics view point on sex workers(stripping).

Hopefully they will see that you are trying to get away and want help. I hope you can at the least get a restraining order. But speaking from personal experiance a restraining order means fuck all when the person is determined to get to you.

I do truly hope you can get away from him. It sounds like a really bad situation... best of luck.

We all make mistakes and learn from them. Hopefully you've learned from yours.

And I really am sorry if I came off as being cold about this.

your situation sounds incredibly shady and scary... I think your running with the wrong people... I bet you didn't look into this money making opportunity too closely... sometimes when something looks to good to be true, it often is.. sounds like this was something along those lines... Hopefully these people don't know where you live.. you dont' want your safety to be endangered....

I model & record for this label. I signed a two year contract to pay them 20% of any money that comes in from my image, name, or voice.
As far as the dancing goes, they go on "$2500 excursions" in NYC and the girls pay $300 a night for a driver (we live in NC) to drive us up there, stay with us in & out of the club, be top-notch security so no compromises, and drive us back.
The contract may have been made up by them, and i DID sign it, but it wasnt notarized.. so i'm wanting to check with a lawyer to see if i can get out of it.. (not sue them)

do you have a copy of the contract? I'd defeinitely check with an attorney to see if it's legit or if they know about that company. It sounds fishy. I mean yeah, pay $300 to the driver but you need to make your $2500 first.

    oh lord oh lord. Honey....

First off., you dont have to rely on anyone other then yourself to make it in this industry.

Second off... I know of NO ONE that has managers unless they are their pimps. Iv'e danced a decade and thats the only Managers i've ever heard of.

Dancing is simple. its not as hard as i think you might see it as being.

See, you get an outfit, a thong and some shoes. You go to a club that YOU want to work at, you try out...sometimes you dont even have to do that.

Then you work. you tip out and you go home.

    simple simple.

    seriously its that easy.

Another thing, all clubs play a variety of music. Fuck i dont like country but guess what i dance to it. its not always about the dancer. its mostly all about the crowd. because they are paying.

so inorder to a bonafide dancer you need to one, want to do this and do it on your own, two you need to realize that a good dancer can dance to anything.

Now on to this contract. Did they have witnesses and a lawyer present when you signed? Do you have copies of the papers you signed? and how legit is it really?

sounds like they dont have money to start with, so if you sue them i doubt you'll get shit. and they probably dont have really shit for an attorney either. i think you might be just fine.

its not like they can know EVERYTHING you are doing.

Signing over your face, voice and likeness ..is sorta like signing over your soul.

wait 2500 a weekend? after tip outs? everyweekend?

    haha no nope no.

    dont believe the hype.

im a decent earner and someweekends after tip out and housefees you make 1200 ...sometimes 5 grand.

but letme tell you...thats like once every ONCE in awhile.

First of all, you only notorize car titles... not contracts.

For a contract to be valid, it has to have an offer, an acceptance, intent to contract, be legal, and have consideration... i.e. money from one side and performance of services on the other.

If you signed a contract of adhesion... i.e. you did not have legal representation...and it is all their contract, any ambiguity will be interpeted in your favor.

There are a million ways to have a contract set aside or ruled invalid. Basically, do what you want. For them to stop you, they would have to sue you and get an injunction, then they would have to depose you, then they have to PROVE damages, then they would have to collect the judgement.

In other words, are they willing to spend $70,000 to go after your ass. Believe me because someone violate a contact with me and this is what it cost me.

They can huff and bluff but they can't blow your house down. ... or enforce the contract without a LOT of money .

I would probably ignore it and make them sue me.. because they won't unless you are making a million a year and they can see skimming off 20% to get $200,000. And, if you are making a million a year, you can afford an attorney to make them prove the validity of the contract.

It's not like a credit thing so I don't see how it can hurt you to fight it.

First off, Genesia, you might be in danger. Report this guy to the cops for stalking and tell them you feel he might try and come after you and hurt you.

Crime victum's advocates in your area can offer you help in getting away from this guy.

Second, Sitri, I don't think she has to worry about lawsuits as much as being harassed, stalked, or possibly phyiscally harmed by these guys. They aren't going throught he hassel of fighting something in court.

I know what it is like to want something so much, that no matter what other's tell you, you believe the story that you WANT to be true. That is how scammers work, and it seems that people are convinced to give up their hard earned cash for nothing all the time.

Do you have a link to the original post.

$2500 US a weekend is major bollocks to me. I mean, I see advertisements in Aus. stating $1000 a night and I know it's bollocks!

You should average $500 a night if you're a decent dancer. $300 usually.

    To offer a beginner $2500 a weekend.

I think I know a prostitute that makes that.

What are you going to do? I would just avoid their call and not talk to them anymore. You've got the gear you need now to strike out on your own. You don't need no stinkin' manager! Do you think these guys would show up at your house? I would call the police on them! Tell the cops that these guys are trying to pimp you and extort money out of you. The fuckahs!

eta: well I just read the other thread and it sounds like you already have an established relationship with this guy ie: he's your "friend"

Maybe you should just lay low for awhile...just say that you've decided that modeling/dancing etc just isn't for you. ???

Im sorry if I came off as harsh. As I said before though we all make mistakes and we learn from them. Like I told you you do need to report them to the police, but be perpared for them to possibly not take you as serious as they should. They really should take you serious and help you re-locate because you could be in danger.

Please do be careful Genesia. People like this may want to stalk you and harrass you. They already showed up see you after work with some big guy in tow asking for money that they see as theirs. They are probably not going to stop at that. Cut all communication off with them. If they call let them leave a message. This way if they threaten you the proof will be there to get a restaining order. Do try to lay low for a while and go places only with a buddy. If they threaten you in any way write down an account of the incident. Genesia do not feel like we are belittling you. We only gave you the advice we gave you previously because we care, and now we give you more because we care. All asking for advice is voluntary by the way. Be careful, be safe, and maybe the real lesson in this for you is that you are more capable of doing things on your own than you thought. You went to a club and got hired. You could probably go to any club and get hired.
