    Default Ekka in Brisbane

Ekka Wednesday is a holiday in Brisbane. It's a day to, well, in to the Ekka. The Ekka is a fair. I can't beleive they actually made it a holiday, but far be it from me to stand in the way of an Aussie and his day off! Does anyone know how Ekka is for money in the clubs? Are most people doing family things or are the men getting away?

who knows. fingers crossed its a packed crowd tho for the brissy clubs. it wont have much of an effect on the gold coast tonight i dont think.

on another note, isnt it weird they have a public day off for it?!! i drove past the other night, and it really doesnt look like all that much aye.

Aussies will do ANYTHING for a holiday. Don't you think it's funny we still celebrate the Queen's birthday? But not ON the queens birthday so you can get a three day weekend? Ha! But to make a holiday from a FAIR. Silly Australians.

took me 5 years to decode the queensland lingo to finally work out that 'ekka' is queenslander for 'exhibition'. who'da thunk it.

too much horse, cow and other farm animal shit for me, not to mention the dust, dropped fairy floss, squashed pluto pups and screaming kids. you can practically see the flu cloud hanging above the exhibition ground.

    i am the ekka grinch.

that said, damn rights i'm having my holiday! it's not even the whole of Qld that gets a holiday, it's just metropolitan brisbane, despite the fact that the poor bastards have to come in from rural bris/qld to bring their animals.

lots of family men with kiddies hanging off them. awesome.

Ha. Don't I know it. Always wondered what Ekka stood for though. Bad enough when I was convinced mozzies were mozzerella sticks! I'm going to the Ekka though since this is my first year in Brisbane. Not looking forward to being around sprogs though.

I've heard the stories. I just got over the flu two days ago so maybe I got Ekka Osmosis Flu.

From previous experience in working in brisbane - it does get a little bit busier then normal but nothing that you will notice! With country folk coming to the city for the ekka it is highly likely that they will want to see some nice looking gals!

I believe Melbourne's the only city where they have a holiday for a bloody horse race too.

I do believe it has been going on since 1875 but I could be wrong.

Lets see two beautiful ladies walking down southbank in frocks and hats....

God now I have a picture in my head of LM dressed in EGA fashion taking a stroll down southbank with Aprilleigh. Second Tuesday sounds about right. This is one of the few Holiday's that does not make a long weekend here. Although many take the weekend off anyway. Always bring a matching parasol on cup day.

Well the races are more formal was my thinking. I was going to say egl, but so many misconstrue the lolita part of it.
