Default Sent home for being "smashed"

Arrrrrgh! Last night I was dancing and after 4 hours, at 9pm, the manager whom I'd never worked with before greeted me as I came off one of my podiums with "You looked smashed." "Nah I'm fine." "No. You're going home."

I'd had 3 drinks, over the space of 4 hours, plus a lasagne a customer bought me for dinner, and I wasn't smashed at all. The girls I'd been talking to all night were defending me and went and complained to the EC about me getting sent home for being drunk when I clearly wasn't drunk. The EC said he knew I wasn't drunk and doesn't know what made the manager come to the conclusion that I was too drunk to be there. I even asked the manager "what have I done wrong?" and I pointed out that if it looks like I'm wobbly, it's because I'm not good at walking down stairs in my shoes yet, and he's just like "whatever, just don't you ever drink at work again." The girls I'm friends with were really upset too as they knew I hadn't drank much and that they were at 5 times more drunk than I was.

Why would he do this to me? The podium he pulled me off too was a podium with another girl who I'm friends with who actually was really really drunk. I don't get it.

Meh, it's kinda said and done, nothing you really CAN do, is there? Just explain later you're new at walking in those damn heels and if he wants to show you how to do it - he's welcome to it!

I was vomitting last week and the club said, "Did you drink too much?!!!" Like, damnit, I'm SICK. I have the FLU. I drank two Midoris and SPRITES an hour apart.

    Ohhhh, so much alcohol.

    Whatever, nothing you can do.

for whatever reason, he didn't want you on his shift. He just used the "you're too smashed" as an excuse to send you home.

He just sounds like an asshole. Some of these managers make me so mad. We pay thier wages and they behave as though they pay ours. Technically they're our hoes!

I know the venue you're talking about. Didn't happen to be a quiet retainer shift too did it? Lots of girls have left that company, I used to work for them on and off but now it's totally lost the plot. Inconsistent, high staff turnover, they burn their regular staff (not just the dancers) and don't recognize their big spenders treating them like mugs, most of them have left too. If you want to keep working for them but can't stand the manager there just go to one of their other clubs, they have a different manager in each even though it's the same owner, otherwise there is about another 1/2 dozen clubs in Sydney running on a similar format where they'll take less of your money. Most of the customers are not loyal, you'll run into them elsewhere so don't worry you'll see familiar faces. And the contract about not working in a 20km radius is baloney, apart from sack you if they catch you (which is no big deal and strictly speaking not even legal since you are not an employee) they can't do a thing about it and when the current office manager leaves and a new one comes in you'll be able to go back anyway, I've seen at least 5 of them go through the place, to avoid it altogether just don't work for their competition at the same time. Don't worry too much about this particular company, they are full of it.

The previous people have the best guesses. That is so weird. The only thing that's certain is that he's a total dick.

Yep it was a retainer night, but the thing was, I'd already made over the retainer and I don't think they'd realised how much I'd made already, because I don't think the girls were making that much except for tips but I've managed to gain a regular from one of the other venues and he followed me here to this one. I do have a feeling it was due to one of the other girls complaining about me, I know one of them HATES me even though I've never said more than 2 words to her, but seeing as they say "if you have a problem with one of the girls, speak to the manager" I can't really do that. This venue...the thing is, the EC loves me, and I love him too he's great, every time I've had a problem before they've been fantastic, and for some reason this club has 2 managers and it was the first time I'd met this particular one, the other manager is great. But I've been getting into so much shit lately due to roster mess ups, I'm so scared they're going to get rid of me and I really need the cash.

It was just really upsetting to be accused of being drunk, and that now I won't be able to drink anything, at all, whatsoever with this manager because I know as soon as I'll do the accusations will start again and I'll be gone no matter how hard the EC defends me

He thought it was retarded getting rid of me. I'm the only one who looks the way I do. All the others were caucasian blondes. It's not like we're even competing for the same customers so I don't see why some of them hate me so much.

I think that the are all right. The manager at my old club would do the same thing to girls that he would want to get rid of, where on the other hand, there would be girls that would be pissy ass drunk and they were cool because they were the "money makers", not saying that you are not but it can be cut throat dependingon what kind of club you work at.

It doesn't have anything to do with you so don't take it personally. On retainers the idea for this club (and another unrelated one that comes to mind also) is to spread the money around so they don't have to pay anyone.
It's a bit chummy there, who you know, but they chop and change so much there really isn't a lot of security for anyone else working there either.
Pop into some of the other clubs (preferably not in the cross) and have a look at their competition. Sounds like your pretty new, you need a supportive environment to cut your teeth on. Don't believe everything you hear, look for yourself to see what's going on. If you like the look of a place (or more to the point how it's run) then go for an interview. Don't let them hold the fear of being out of work over you, there are plenty of places looking for dancers but go in and look, don't answer perpetual adds in the paper.
Money is pretty tight all round at the moment but as soon as you can stash away enough for a buffer, don't always be working broke, it makes you vulnerable.

Often times, a manager will have a preference for the type of girl he likes on his shift. Shitty, but true. Perhaps the other girls hate you merely because you're different. Also shitty but what can you do?
