    Does anyone know

What the procedures for screening pregnant flying passengers is? Before when I flew (and was preggers with Makayla) they allowed me to by-pass the metal detectors and just used the wand...

Does anyone know if this is still being done with the threat alert so high? I looked on the TSA.gov website, but it doesn't mention anything about pregnant passengers.

I just flew and and spoke with a lady who was flying to philly to have her baby. She was treated like everyone else. :/ If that helps.

Are you asking because of some concern about the radiation?

Yeah, I was talking about flying and all with a couple of friends and they were saying to not go through the metal detectors because it could harm the baby...blah, blah, blah...

But, then I remembered when I flew while preggers with Makayla, security had me by-pass the metal detectors and just did a quick wand sweep over me.

I was just concerned that going through the detector could, in fact, hurt the baby.

Hmmm. With things the way they are, I highly doubt you'd be allowed to bypass. Although, if you're polite and you ask nicely if they could just "wand you" and explain briefly your concerns, perhaps you have a chance. Let us know.

Metal detectors are nonionizing radiation. From a radiation standpoint, you're no more at risk than sitting close to a light bulb, watching your television. Our lives are full of nonionizing radiation. But I do understand the apprehension of wanting to keep the baby safe from all risks, no matter how minor the risk.

And while I adore Bella, I would not throw a fit in an airport in this day and age. It seems a sure way to be kept from getting on any plane. I was boarding a flight recently, and the woman sitting in front of me was unhappy about something and had to voice her unhappiness. Security came and took her off the plane before we buttoned up.

Well, the wand is what they use when you can't pass through the detector, right? So it doesn't seem less secure to do that instead. I wouldn't throw a fit - just ask. Explain that you might be paranoid, but you and your unborn child would be grateful if they could wand over you instead of making you go through the detector. I can't imagine that they'd say no. Although Jay's link should provide reassurance if, for some reason, you do.

I find with airlines honey attracts positive results more often than vinegar. I remmber one time there were massive delays. The represenative, asked everyone to be calm and they practically trampled her. That is all be me and my mother. We were nice, polite, and got tickets and on the next flight out. Everyone else was screwed for a couple of hours.

I would call the airlines/airport and ask. Do it annon if you must.

Oh, I wouldn't throw a fit...LOL...no way, not in this day and age. As long as it's not like an X-ray type machine...it should be ok. I'll definitely ask them when I get there and tell them that it makes me nervous...but if I have to walk through and there is no risk, then it's what I'll do.

Thanks, everyone!! I don't get paranoid about a lot of stuff...but sometimes, eh.
