    Default Smoking at work....HELP!!

I only smoke when I'm at work. If i don't work for 10 days than I don't smoke for10 days and have no desire to whatsoever, but when I'm in the club I can't seem to control it. I don't mean I smoke like crazy at work but I'll start the day saying I've been off for 6 days why not pass up a smoke at the club and make it a full week without smoking. Then I'll breakdown and feel horrible afterwards.

I've always felt that I'm not addicted to ciggs because I can go so long without smoking or craving a smoke and I don't buy packs. However, when I'm in that club environment I can't seem to stick to it.I'll go to housemom and get a ciggarette. Does anyone else have this problem??? Even though I don't smoke much, I really want to quit altogether and become a total non smoker.

I'm the same way. I don't even think about smoking when I'm not at work, but as soon as I get there, I hit the cigarette machine for a hideously over-priced pack. If I smoked all the time as much as I do at work, I'd have a pack-a-day habit. I've been off for three weeks and smoked once in that time. I lost my smoker's hack and regained my sense of smell, but I'm going back to work tonight...

I never ever ever smoke and being at work makes me want to. I think it has something to do with every single custy and stripper feeling the need to chain smoke the whole time they are in the club. The environment probably has everything to do with it. If the other girls didn't smoke you probably wouldn't crave it at all.
But congrats on being able to hold off when you arn't in the club!

How long have you been smoking? I mean if it's less than a year, I would really think about quitting. I started smoking when I was 15, and I could have quit easily in the first couple of years. Now I am 25 and I still can't nring myself to do it. I quit everything else, drinking and drug use, but by far, cigarettes are the most addictive substance I have come across.

I don't smoke that much when I'm not at work and might even be able to quit, but I find it impossible not to smoke when I'm there.

You may not even be physically addicted to nicotine, there is such a thing as a psychological addiction.

Oh yes, I know JUST what you mean! I only smoke at work and it's the only time I really like to. A social smoker perhaps? It's better than smoking around the clock everywhere you go.

that's interesting. the only place i Don't smoke is at work. smoking makes me feel tired - not good for $$. and, since we can't smoke indoors here in ny, i have to go outside, also not good for $$.

try to figure out what it is that makes you want to smoke at work and see if you can find another habit to replace smoking with...

Yep. Same here. I don't smoke. Last night was my first night back at work in over a month. I smoked a half pack of (other people's) cigarettes!!

I realized that it's a hustling crutch for me. I pass by a table, ask if I can bum a smoke. And they're always more than happy to give me one. It's sort of like they've bought you a drink and get to spend that time with you, but they don't have to buy you anything. So you smoke the cigarette and work you hustle and by the time you're done you close the sale.

    It's ingenius.

    Except that you'll die.

    UGH!

I was the same way. Was smoking a pack a shift, but on my days off would not smoke at all. I quit two months ago. I just decided to. If you can go days without smoking when you're not at work, then you're not addicted anyway, and it shouldn't be all that hard. People think it's miraculous that I can work there and not smoke, but I was never addicted anyway.

My advice is to just do it. Just decide you're going to quit. Every time you want a cigarette when you're at work, just picture your lungs. I picture how mine are more pink/purple and not black. It is hard to not use the cigarette hustle, but you'll get used to it. Also, you never have to keep track of where your pack is, you smell better, and you waste less time sitting and not dancing. Not to mention the money you save.

I find it really weird that at work all the custies smoke, and just offer your cigarettes. In a normal club someone would ask if you smoked.. there seems to be an assumption!...

I am also an occasional smoker, I can smoke for one night.. or one week.. then nothing for a year, then again smoke for a couple weeks like 20 in a week, then stop again.. odd.. When I stop I dont feel the need to or craving..only start in high stress/when I am wel enough to have a small amount of alcohol

Its is such a waste of money though.. better of saving the £5 a week and getting something nice at the end of the year

i had quit for 2 months and just went back to smoking.
how i quit the first time:
    * wellbutrin, but this stuff messed me up, i kept passing out. ciggys did taste like crap.
    * wintergreen mints, orbit gum freshmint flavor, those white tic tacs, candy ciggys
    * lots of water
    * put a big sign over your bed as to why you're quitting

even then i got batty at work. i would run to my housemom and be like 'oh god i'm craving!' and shove wintergreen lifesavers into my mouth. it was pretty funny.

now i smoke cloves again. regular cigs i go through the pack, but cloves i can pull 2 or 3 a day and be ok.

and this is coming from the girl who's apartment walls turned yellow.

EXACTLY!! After I worked last night without smoking Thank you very much, I realized it's also a way to sit and observe the room without looking bored or un- busy. Well, I did it last night so I'm on the right track!!
