I drive a 2002 chrysler sebring. Though mostly I drive 05 chrysler Pacifica (my fiancee's).
Car payments do suck. Before that a 92 olds cutlass. It was a peice of shit and very embarassing. I even had to crawl in through the passenger side. Hehe...At least I didn't have a car payment and had dirt cheap insurance.

Now that the 348 is gone, I'm looking at getting this new toy. I should know by next week if it's mine or not as there are few other interested parties so I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

By gone, I mean sold.Originally Posted by hardkandee
It was just costing me too much time and money to maintain it. A Ferrari 348 costs about $2.50 a mile to maintain. The last chunk of change I had to fork over for the car was over $6,500.00 to change the belts and do a tune-up. That's when I decided to sell it.
Not to mention there were constant little things that needed work all the time and it was a hastle. The car was sexy and super fast but just mechanically it was a piece of crap. A brief history of Ferrari over the last few decades...
In the mid-70s, Ferrari was starting to develop more high-end performance cars out of their popularity in Formula 1 racing. They came out with the 365 GT4 and 308GTB. Lamborghini was on the rise and starting to compete a bit after leaving the tractor industry. Ferrar scrapped the dated 365 and kept developing the 308 design being much more futuristic in design and performance. The early models had an awesome quatrovalve carburator design and the cars were easy to drive, easy to maintain and were great cars. Magnum PI hit the airwaves in 1980 and everyone had to have a Ferrari just like "Magnum" and so Ferrari sales went through the roof as did the demand for the limited supply. The 308 was now a celebrity.
Eventually they changed out the engine to a fuel-injected model which really helped performance and reliability a lot although a lot of people argue that the old QV models were better. Anyway, this then led to the advancement into the 328 model which looked very similar to the 308 but had a new front-end, spoiler on the top, and a bigger engine with a better design. These were built from around 1986 until 1989. Banking on their popularity, they also developed the Mondial which was ugly, low-cost, and a piece of crap. While Ferrari was popular, people wanted more bang for their buck other than just having a hot looking car and Lamborghini was starting to take away a lot of Ferrari enthusiasts who wanted to go a lot faster than the 328 could provide (around 165 MPH). So, that's when Ferrari developed the two sister cars...the 512TR (Testarossa) and the 348 which came as a targa and spyder model. Both cars looked virtually identical having the "cheese grater" look on the sides. The Testarossa had a V12 and the 348 had a V8. The Testarossa was bit wider and had a slightly higher top speed at around 200MPH while the 348 (which is what I had) went 0-60 much faster but only maxed out at around 185 (still screaming fast). The problem was that to do this, Ferrari was building real hack cars just to compete against Lambo. They were thrown together, held together with scotch tape virtually, and were like go-carts with big engines. They used a new system of transversing the engines in the car to get a ton of horsepower out of them more efficiently but that blessing came with a price. Every time you wanted to any work on the engine, you had to put it on a lift, drop out the engine, do your work, then put it back in, re-time and re-tune it. This is why a broken belt can cost you literally thousands of dollars to fix.
Then they developed the 360 which had a ton of electrical problems and Ferrari started to wise-up and realize they couldn't just build crap and people would buy it. Their name recognition in the 90s got trashed when the new Vettes, Vipers, McLarens, and other exotics were beating the pants off of them. Their new cars are WAY better than anything they've built in a long time but almost any Ferrari owner will tell you the best ones they ever built were the 308s and 328s. I know a few owners in my Ferrari club here in Vegas that actually use theirs for daily driving cars without a problem. That's why I want the switch. I'm looking for a good 328 with low, but some miles on it which will be a fun car to take out on the weekends and I won't have to worry about it breaking down every other week.

We have 3 cars, a 2006 Camry, a 2005 Cavalier a 1997 Lada Niva, a 1972 GM bus and a surplus U.S. Army M35
Ooooooh Yeah!
By a route obscure and lonely,
Haunted by ill angels only,
Where an Eidolon, named NIGHT,
On a black throne reigns upright,
I have reached these lands but newly
From an ultimate dim Thule-
From a wild clime that lieth, sublime,
Out of SPACE- out of TIME.

“Since the ACLU is trying to take away the word ‘Christmas,’ we thought it would be a great time to send the group a Christmas card this year. If everybody did this, they would be buried in mail.”

I can understand why someone would ask this question...it's just out of curiousity and that's cool. I know I am impressed with the nice cars some of my co-workers drive...not necessarily in a superficial way but just in a "hey, good for them if that's what they want-they've earned it!" All of that being said, I drive a '96 Chevy Lumina which is missing all 4 hubcaps and has various scratches. But, it's paid for and in my opinion, the law degree I'm working towards (cliche I know but absolutely true) will be more impressive! :p
yeah, your law degree won't depreciate!
2005 scion TC. Looks cute, inexpensive and gets good gas milage.
