    Thumbs up Quitting smoking

Ok, as of right now, I have no more smokes...instead of going out and wasting another 9$ on a pack, I have decided to quit, cold turkey. I *know* this is gonna be hard, but worthwhile in the end... anyone else in the process of quitting smoking? got some tips? I've been smoking for at least the past 5 years and averaging a half pack a day... it's about high time I quit... anyone else quitting smoking?

I'll be keeping myself very busy over the next few days... anyone have any "quitting smoking" tips for me?

It'll be the 3rd time I quit, and this time it is for GOOD!

    Yea Kelly!!

Just remmber when you have cravings to call someone to distract yourself. LOL that is what my mom does.... usually a 40 minute call. You'll get through it.
One more cup of coffee for the road,
One more cup of coffee 'fore I go
    To the valley below....

Slowly moseying my way to the exit.

Good luck! You can do this, many have before you.

I'm not a smoker, but I would say try to reduce stress, keep yourself busy like you said and maybe latch onto a different addiction. Hahaha the last one is really bad advice, but it works well for me. For example, when I went off sugar I switched to tea instead. lol...anyway, bonne chance

I have quit 6 weeks now. I keep gum, suckers, and plastic straws all around me. I was grumpy for about 3 days. After that it kept getting easier. Look at all the positives and make a list to read. For example, sitting in the nice parts of restruants, not spending money to kill yourself, and not spreading your secondhand smoke to others.

after many quit attempts using patches, gum, inhalers, etc., what finally worked for me was cold turkey. had my doc script me some xanax to keep my nerves down for a couple of weeks. gum and sunflower seeds (your mouth is kept busy when you spit out the shells) or candy cigarettes help with the oral fixation. although this might not work for all people, i had a pack of herbal cigarettes on hand for when i really wanted to light something up. they have no nicotine or tobacco, but, rather, are herbs like catnip. these are bad to smoke long term, but i think having one or two on hand for those really desperate moments is better than caving to a cig with the nicotine. just don't switch to smoking these...there is no buzz from them at all.

also, if you slip up, start again with confidence. let go of the guilt, because much like dieting, the feelings of guilt can make you think, "fuck it, i had one, i might as well have another, i can't do this anyway." good luck!

also, every time you want to buy a pack, take the money and put it in a jar. think of a place you want to visit or an item you want to buy. the money will keep building up, and promise yourself you'll take that vacation or purchase that item only if you remain smoke free. if you slip up and buy a pack, take double the amount of the pack from the jar and use it to pay bills (not more cigs). this way, you have incentive to reach your goal and stay smoke free...a friend of mine did this and went to FL with the cash she saved.

    I used this:

    http://www.psychotherapy-center.com/emdr.html

Great results, stopped immediately, after smoking 2 packs a day for 20 years.

I gained a few pounds--literally, a few pounds. Worth it.

Purchase and read Allen Carr's Easy Way To Quit Smoking book.

Use the internet! There are heaps and heaps of advice, tips and support available for you in re: smoking cessation. Just do a search "quit smoking" or "smoking cessation"

The thing that helps most people successfully quit is support even if you have to find it online.
