Smiley SO glad i found this website!

Hi there everyone! I'm new here. For the last few days...well, months actually, I have been worrying about how i'm going to pay off college debts, get myself an egg nest and still have money to buy a car/luxuries etc. Next year I should be going to college in America if everything goes as planned, but i will be an international student as i'm currently in the UK. The fees for international students are much more than if you are a resident.

So there i was...worrying and thinking 'oh my god, i'm going to be in debt till i'm in my 40s'...and then suddenly i thought of stripping. Let me tell you, I am NOT one of those girls who is a slut or has no respect. I don't dress in an extremely revealing way and a few months ago i would have laughed at the idea of paying off debts through dancing. But after reading more on this website, it seems like a really great way to pay off debts. Plus, because i'm in a different country, there's no chance of my parents finding out! I have been trying so so hard recently to get a job, just a job in a shop or a cafe or something. Work is SCARCE here and the thought of going through all that just to earn the equivalent of $10 an hour when i could be earning $500 a night...seems stupid! I'm not stupid, I got a scholarship to my last school which was private. They payed 2/3 of the fees, which still left us in debt (this is a high school, remember). I also am going to have extensive dental work done on my teeth (yes, it's necessary) which will cost about $16000. With all this, I am going to be seriously in debt and I want to pay back my parents.

BUT-i have a few questions. Since it will be my first year in college, i really don't want to earn a 'reputation'. Has anyone here been able to keep it a secret? Also, does it affect your chances of getting employed afterwards? I am hoping to either study law or business after I graduate.

ALso, (please don't laugh at me), I am a bit wary of takng my top off dancing. I definitely DON'T want to go to a club where i get all naked. and i would really prefer to keep my top on. However, i have no problem with giving lap dances or pole dancing. I just really don't want to take everything off. I suppose this means i'll be earning less? Are there any 'upmarket' clubs who make their dancers keep their tops ON?

Finally...how much do you REALLY earn on average? I was thinking of working 3/4 nights a week so i have time to study and do normal college stuff. I have heard of people earning $300-$800 dollars a NIGHT...so I could be earning $75000 a YEAR...ok, maybe a little unrealistic, but that's what i've heard!

If you want to earn $300- 800 per night, you are going to have to take your top off.

not always. i average about 250 in season (about 200 when slow) but i have some shifts where i make 300-400 bucks... and the VERY occasional 500 day. that's all after tip outs. i work DAYSHIFT in a BIKINI bar and i do -not- do extras.

    however....

    #1 i have regulars
#2 it took me at least 6 months to break 200 and about a year to start getting to those 300-400 days.

she is "kind of" right though. you obviously have a better chance at making that ammount of money if you go topless or nude, i'm just letting you know that it's not impossible to do it "clothed".

all that being said, i'm considering going topless or nude to see if i make any more. that's not a sure thing either, since i do know girls who work in topless bars that make less than i do. *shrug*

as far as the employment thing goes, the hardest thing about it is explaining the gap in your employment history. unless you can get a club to say you were a bartender, of course even then you "worked at a strip club". being in school makes a little easier though, because you can just say you were a "student". just make sure you start interning or part-timing somewhere related to your field while you're still in school. that way you have some experience when you graduate and it doesn't look like you were "unemployed" the entire time. also the BIGGEST concern with getting hired in the future comes with being arrested. make sure you work at a decent club and KNOW the rules of your state. you don't want to get arrested for something stupid like solicitation of alcohol for asking someone to buy you a drink, or "exposure" for having a thong that's 1/2 an inch too small in the back.

it's not just the girls who do extras who get arrested. sometimes cops doing a raid are just looking for as many arrests as possible, even if they are really ridiculous charges. if you know the law and trust the club though, you should be ok.

There are tons of threads on these topics, so search around and I'm sure you'll find something useful. Many dancers don't share what they do with people outside the club, and many do. Some people - close friends and anyone you date seriously - are bound to find out. What kind of 'reputation' are you worried about? Think carefully about your own attitudes and assumptions about dancing. What would you think if someone you knew told you they were a dancer?

If you are going to school while you dance, you probably don't need to worry too much about future employers, unless you are going to work in a field like military intelligence that does extensive background checks. For most employers, if they ask you what you've been doing for the past couple of years, you can say "going to school." If you dance full-time for very long without being in school, you will have a gap in your resume that may require some explanation. There are many threads about this

Like Penny says, there are bikini bars where you can keep your top on, but I beleive these are concentrated in select parts of the country, like the Northeast. So if it is really important to you to keep the girls covered, do some research when deciding where you want to settle.

IMO, 3/4 nights is a lot while you are in school. Remember, if you work during the day, you're schedule might conflict with classes. If you work at night, you're going to be up till all hours and will need to sleep late. Some people find the job more tiring than others. I am an introverted person, so after a few days of working, I need a day or two off to get back to normal.

What you earn depends a lot on where you are. Some cities have a lot of business conventions that bring wealthy men to town on a regular basis, or army bases so they can capitalize on loney guys with low living expenses. Do some serious research on where you want to be, and try to find a compromise between a good city to dance in and a good city to live and go to school in. A quick plug for Austin, TX, where I live: there's an enormous and relatively prestigious state school here, and a fair ammount of money. An attractive dancer who knows the ropes can easily make $300-500 a night, and some make much more.

A reality check for you, though: dancing isn't precisely the 'easy money' that most people make it out to be. There are a lot of skills to learn before you start making serious money. You need to be a strong, confident person with a thick skin...or at least fake it well.

Do as much research as you can first... but I can tell you that once the idea of dancing through college has implanted itself in your mind, it's damn near impossible to dismiss! I'm in uni in England and in loads of debt... my money situation got so bad earlier this year that I was actually starving, living on one free placement lunch a day. I started casually toying with the idea, all the while "knowing" I'd never go through with it, about a year ago. The curiosity eventually got the better of me however, and I knew I'd never shake off the idea unless I just sucked it up gave it a shot. Haven't yet looked back

Just to make you feel better, I went through school and had normal jobs while I danced. I even had my face in ads. No one ever knew that I didn't tell. What I look like everyday, and what I look like when I am made up are two different things. Nobody will suspect. But your paranoia can eat you away.

Don't get misled by the money. Yes, it will help you through school and get you a nest egg, if you are smart and don't blow the dough. Lots of girls like to brag about $500-$1000 a night, but how many times do you hear about the $30 night, the $0 night, or the night you had to leave and OWE tipout! I think the money evens out in the end. If you keep your lips zipped about the job, save wisely, and take into account what you make all week as compared to a day, you'll be fine! And you really oughta just take the top off!!! Go for it!
