I've been debating quitting for a while, but it's so hard.
Any good or bad effects of coffee that you know of?
I think I was using way too much for a while there.
Should I just keep drinking? It's been 17 years everyday pretty much.

people that drink a reasonable amount of coffee every day have a susbstantially reduced risk of get alzheimers when they're old. that's good!
coffee tastes goooooood.
my local coffee company just told me that coffee actually has MORE antioxidants than green tea, and i choose to believe them, without any research whatsoever. woo hoo!
a couple of cups of espresso a day never hurt anyone!!! (says me!) <<shivering and reaching for her coffee cup>>

As long as your "addiction" doesn't rule your life then drinking at least one cup of coffee a day will not hurt you. Just like drinking a glass of good decent red wine each day has health benefits... so does drinking one cup of coffee.
In the end it is about balance. Drink one glass of water with every cup of coffee you drink and you should be okay... and just don't over-do it. If you find you can't function without upteen amounts of coffee in your daily drinking ... then you know you have a problem.
Having a cuppa of a morning won't kill ya. It will only be good for you.

Yes, it's true, coffee reduces your risk for heart disease, increases metabolism, and stimulates the digestive system.. And also supresses hunger AND has 0 calories (if you drink it black)
But, as everyone said, moderation is key. 1or 2 cups a day is fine.. But don't go getting a super collossal jumbo grande everytime you need a coffee.. Just a bit here and there, and you are OK.
And also, beware of quitting all of a sudden - withdrawl symptoms will be hellish.. so cut down gradually.
Oh god, I have "quit" coffee about 12 times. The stress of quiting was probably more harmful than the cup of coffee itself.
I have accepted the fact that my body loves my daily cup of coffee. I've decided that for the pros and cons involved, it is well worth it to keep it. As long as I only have one cup, I don't get too jittery. And it keeps my digestion "regular" if you know what I mean. And an emotional lift. And gets me to the gym.
ALL HAIL COFFEE!

I used to drink coffee all day... now it's one in the morning an occasional cup in the afternoon... much better...
Once on a weeklong family vacation I was convinced I was coming down with a flu or worse (think, brain tumor) because I was unable to stay awake, my head was pounding and I was increasingly spacey (okay, MORE spacey...). One morning, with just two days left on the trip, as my mom was pouring my 2nd cup of coffee, I suddenly thought to ask, "Hey, is this real coffee, mom?" "No. Dad and I don't drink it any more." I immediately took myself to Starbucks and was "cured"!
HAIL COFFEE!!
I must have my 4 shots in the morning!! I did switch to decaf while pregnant. Was sooo happy to get back to the real stuff after birth! Unless you are experiencing adverse health caused by coffee...why quit? We must enjoy the legal, liquid crack!

I didn't know coffee had health benefits![]()
I think it's fine in moderation, just don't be drinking whole pots.

Caffeine is great before cardio cause you're supposed to burn more fat if you have a cup of coffee or green tea before cardio. Still, I agree that moderation is key.
i have finally gotten to the point that I can drink my coffee black with a splenda or two.... before then I was putting obsence amount of creamer in it which just jacked up my addiction to sugar and coffee

Coffee reduces the risk of alcohol-induced pancreatitis...
I quit coffee and it didn't make me feel any better or worse.
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.
Does anyone know if it is coffee or caffeine that causes the health benefits? Because if its the coffee then decaf should give the same health benefits. I love coffee but only drink it on special occasions because I suck at brewing coffee. I am addicted to Dt Mt Dew so I hope it's the caffeine that is good for you!
The day I quit coffee is the day I die.
'Nuff said.
I vowed to quit coffee for a while after this morning. I brewed a carafe and then drank most of it within 3 hours. I was so jittery I couldn't even balance in Pilates this afternoon (at least 3 hours after having the last cup!).
So back to water and iced tea for me! :-(
But I agree with the other ladies, everything in moderation is fine.
i love coffee, but limit myself to 1-3 cups a day now, and rarely have one after one or two in the afternoon. however, i need it to wake up in the morning and clear my head. i love the smell, especially after i brew it in the morning, the apt smells like the wonderful stuff for hours after. yum yum.
"Seeing the landscape at this superficial level only captures its boring uniformity, not allowing you to immerse yourself in the spirit of the place; for that you must stop at least several days."

Wow, I really thought I was getting the flu yesterday and today. I was having cold sweats, my body was really tense, which I thought was caused by sleeping in a weird position, and I had a pounding headache. Took some ibuprofen which didn't really help much. After speaking to a friend, and going over the past few days events I realized I hadn't had any caffeine.
So, after having a couple jugs of green tea, which didn't cure it completely, not enough caffeine, and a 2 bag cup of black tea, I feel 10 time better! Now I just have to get my lazy ass to Starbucks so I can have an iced americano, Mmmmm!
I just need to remember to have at least one caffienated beverage a day so I don't feel sick again. I have accepted the fact that I have a caffeine addiction!
Yep - it has a few positive effects similar to working out, but also dehydrates the body and is hard on the kidneys & liver.Originally Posted by Meea

As far as I am concerned, there's no sunshine without coffee! Studies show coffee is like most things: moderate amounts are either good for you or have no ill effects, depending on which study you are looking at. Large amounts can be a problem. Pregnant women are advised to reduce to 4 cups per day, which is more then I drink now. Studies also find coffee associated with some health benfits, such as reduced rates of diabetes.Originally Posted by kittygirl

II love my coffee, but it is destroying my teeth... (cigs too) I am vowing to cut both out of my life.. I have been drinking water with lemon.. and mint leaves from my garden. Yummy. (and suger free red bull at work)
I have been drinking coffee every day since I was about 13 and always felt and looked fabulous, if I do say so myself.![]()
Anyway, my boyfriend is a total anti-coffee stud so I decided if he could do without it, so could I.
Well, it wasn't worth it. Coffee tastes great, warms you up when it's cold (capuccino for me), cools you down when it's hot out (frapuccino anyone?) and perks you up. I think it's pretty marvelous.

Oh also, it supresses the appetite and helps keep one regular![]()
