Do most of the shoes you buy have enough grip already or do most need more??

I dont use the non-slips because i like to spin.... if you dont want to slip youll need to get the non-slips. Id say 90% of the dancers I know wear them...
Put your shoes on, go outside on some rough asphalt, and tap dance, do the twist etc...this will leave the bottom of your shoes sticky enough and you won't have to worry about the extra rubber grip pad (some girls use) rolling up underneath you (which they eventually do).

I go to a professional to have them soled. The shoes come with good enough ones, but when they break, I hate those rubber ones. My guy gives me gritty plastic soles with kangaroos on them!

I put grips(you can get them at most shoe stores, or in the show dpt of wal mart or target) for the bottoms.
I also score them with a metal nail file to make them less slippery
People always ask me, did I ever learn anything when I was a stripper? Yeah, I did. One man plus two beers equals 20 dollars.

Just remember...if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off.
I used to scuff the bottoms of mine against a hard stucco-like wall, it worked really well!

I bought that grey pad to go under the shoes- and with crazy glue it still came off.
How much does it cost to get a new sole? I'm pretty broke and can't afford anything too pricy.
I tried to scratch the bottoms on the concrete- but it didn't work at all.

^ Mine cost $10 for the pair. Soled professionally including materials.

Depends on the shoe. My first pair needed no-slip pads on the ball of the shoe, but the heel was fine. The pair I wear now is fine on the front (it's covered in texturized rubber), but the heel slides out from under me when there's no no-slip pad on it.
I'm pretty clumsy anyway, so I need all the help I can get. :]
I work in a club where they thought it was a good idea to floor the main stage with bumpy linoleum. Everyone complains. I first used no-slips, which helped some, but they still slid more than a wooden stage. Now I score mine with the tip of a closed pair of scissors, and it works better than all the no-slips that I tried. One thing to mention, though, is that I have to redo them every once in a while, because the grooves start to flatten out after a couple weeks.
Just in case you were looking for a place to get the no-slip pads, here's a link:

If you can't win. Make the fellow in front of you break the record.

^ ^ ^ Thoes are the exact same ones I have, sold at target and the stand-alone shoe stores in my town. For some reason- they did absolutely nothing for me...whenever the part of the shoe that wasn't covered by the pad came in contact with the stage, the shoe would slip.
I have a pair of Dallas Heights (silver upper with silver chrome bottom). It's funny because the Pleaser pair that I have had no problem with grip at all.
Alicia, how deep do you make the grooves with the scissors?
As deep as I can with all the elbow grease that I can muster. It works for me.
I wear Centerfolds shoes and never need no-slip pads.

I wear Tonys.. never have any problems with slippyness!

i'm about to pull the grip that came w my new shoes off! my old shoes (pleasers) weren't grippie on the bottom at all. i could spin all over the stage and around the pole.
the new ones (also pleasers) are insanely sticky. i almost ate shit the first time i danced in them and tried to spin...oops![]()
I get mine professionally soled (Topy). It's $25, but worth it.
Feature costumes for sale!

i HATED the non-slip bottoms. I like to spin around and sort of drag my feet
I am a spin / slippery girl myself, I hate grips cuz it's not smooth transitions, you know?
So a tip I learned is if your shoes grip to much, put some duck tape on the bottom and you'll be able to slid better. Some people might notice but really it doesn't matter cuz guys tend to have the "duck tape fixes everything" attitude so they get a kick out of it if they do notice.![]()

^^^ooo, good idea. i'm going to try that - thanks!![]()

I Need Grip, But Sometimes The Shoes I Like Don't Have It So I Got Get The Stuff At Walmart And Stick Em Right On.
Hmmm... duck tape....
I hate no-slips, too. I love to slide all around the stage, and have never had any problems because of it. I don't dance nearly as well in shoes with sticky soles...
