I've thought about this, getting lipo in my stomach, because i love my body and wouldn't change anything EXCEPT my stomach.
Losing a ton of weight isn't what I want because I want to keep my breasts, hips and ass. So having a bit of lipo done to my stomach seems like a good idea. Almost all the women in my family carry their weight in their stomach, so it seems to be the first place I gain, and the last place I lose.
I work out and eat healthy, but still have that little pooch. I think it's kinda sexy and womanly but I just want it a tad smaller.
i've contemplated it for a while but I'm scared I won't like the results. I know someone who had it and told me she gained weight in other places. My trainer at the gym told me a lot of people aren't happy with the results. There is a new type of lipo I heard about they do with a laser that is not US approved yet but should be soon. Apparently it helps with the skin to get it to tighten up so after the fat is gone your skin is smoother. So I'm wondering about that type of lipo.
I read in a magazine about some other type of "lipo" where they just inject stuff in the site that breaks down the fat and then your body flushes it out naturally in a couple weeks. Your supposed to do a couple sessions. I guess they were saying people like Janet Jackson had it done.
Anyone else heard about that?
Oh, and I have a consultation next Tuesday with a plastic surgeon, so I'll run that by him.
Any specific questions I'm supposed to ask? How did your's go MObab?
I just had the laser lipo done last week actually. I had it done to my outer thighs and my bra fat. So far so good. I did it here in NYC with local anesthesia --BTW you dont feel a thing!! I had almost zero brusing and its been a week. I didnt swell too too bad. I look the same size as before but a bit smoother though. He says every week I will get smaller. He says that the laser can only be used in certain areas. I remember him using the laser intrument to melt fat, and it was wet, then he suctioned the melted fat out. So we will see what my body looks like in the upcoming weeks!!
Oh, and he is a Dermatologic surgeon, not a plastic surgeon--they each have different techniques.
Mine is next week... I'll let everyone know how it goes... I'm excited!
Is this procedure similar to mesotherapy or something completely different??? Anyone have link that explains it. Tried searcing on yahoo but not sure if i`m finding the right thing.
I don't want to sound rude, but aren't these questions you should address before booking the surgery? Didn't you go over that with your doctor?Originally Posted by MObabe

If interested in lipo, I would definitely wait for this new laser thing. A good friend of mine had traditional lipo...not so good. And yes, be 100% informed BEFORE you meet with a surgeon, they have very good salesmanship and may not be entirely upfront with you about all risks/benefits etc. Take care!
The laser (actually called Vaser) is available now to a handful of surgeons--usually dermatologic surgeons--here in NYC. I just had it done under local anesthesia last Wednesday and no pain at all. There was the feeling of aches and pains--like I just got beat up, but not as bad as the boob job. I did not bruise hardly at all and i did not swell larger than my pre-op size. I'm actually going back to work on Monday! My doctor was amazing and it was much less expensive than traditional lipo because you dont have to pay for an anesthesiologist or expensive pain killers. His name is Dr. Paul Jarrod Frank and his website has a wealth of info about the procedure. Let me know if you guys have any more q's.Originally Posted by Lyssa Lynn
Oh and this is NOT mesotherapy. I was going to do that initially but who wants a machine injecting you with dozens of needles filled with who knows what? Its expensive and the injections leaves lots of little bruises and you have to go once a week so your bruises have no time to fade before you get new ones! So you constantly look bruised and always sore for something that may or may not work! No way! Just get that shit sucked out and be MIA for a week and thats that!
Tinkle what is the scaring like with this procedure vs. traditional lipo??
What I'm talking about is not Vaser I don't believe. The article I read called it SmartLipo and when I researched online it was called laserlypolysis. Could be the same thing, but what I read is that it's not yet approved in the US. a Dr. katz I believe in NY did a study on it.
oh, and the thing that really concerns me about traditional lipo is that I might have thinner thighs but more cellulite or gain weird fat in other odd areas. I've heard a lot of people say they regret getting lipo.

I had lipo done. It's been years. And when I first had it done, the pain was unbearable. So don't let them fool you into thinking it's easy. But my stomach was beautiful. But now, years later, my stomach has a weird flap of skin hanging at the bottom and dents in it that look like cellulite. They make you sign a release saying that you realize that this may happen to you. I have never heard of laser lipo, but I would say check your options and maybe consider the laser. I am unhappy with my tummy. And it is still too big! I have never gone over the weight I was at surgery and now my stomach has gone back to being just big. But the difference is that it is now kinda odd shaped. Like I had a baby.
I did consult my doctor but my whole thing is getting the opinion of people who have had it whose paycheck depend on their body as much as mine does... the doctor told me all he could... I just wanted the opinion of people in my same boat.
its only been a week and change but i didnt need any stitches the incisions were really tiny, so i dont think i will have any scars at allOriginally Posted by desavirsire
mblank, that is the sort of problem I've heard about regarding lipo. I know someone who had it done and she said she has funny spots of fat she never had before. My trainer at the gym told me she knows of people that had the same problem. Years ago I went for a consult with a doctor my dad knew who was a very reputable doctor and he told me that while I was the perfect candidate for lipo on my thighs (not trying to lose weight, just shaping) that it is possible to gain weight in other places I'd never had it before and that is scary. He pointed out his nurse who had lipo over and over again in all kinds of spots.

Yes, Frustrated Bunny, I won't recommend lipo to anyone, except maybe if you are awkardly shaped and disfigured. But for a girl trying to lose a little pooch, I don't think it's worth it.
My 2 cents.Work in NY, just had a liposculpture done in Brazil.I'd definietly recommend it to anyone who simply can't melt away fat from problem areas by gym or simply does not have enough time( like me, being in college). It's being a month-i have a totally perky, Latin ass , which also looks smaller, rounder and firmer. Stomach is gone, much flatter.Lost 8 pounds, Doc says that complete transformation will be in October.Sucked out a little fat out of inner thighs, and knees as well. Reshaped lower body completely. It'a long recovery, lots of numbness and still cant work for 3 weeks, but shrinking in size and bying"skinny closet" is a LOT of fun! Brazilian Doc also did a very tiny, virtually invisible scars in a very non-traditional places vs American doctors. My boyfriend could not detect it.![]()
Lipo can be a wonderful thing provided you don't gain any extra weight and you continue to tone your body. However lipo can have many cons, for example, if you do gain weight you will gain it in other areas such as your back, arms and belly.
I had lipo in my thighs and hips. I did gain weight afterwards because I was really skinny and thought I could eat again, wrong! Now my problem area is my stomach, yikes! I have seen many girls and have a friend who had lipo on their stomach and the end result was that weird dimply cellulite look. The question is do you go with the devil you know or the devil you don't know. I chose the devil I know.
The pros were that lipo totally changed my body shape, even after gaining weight, which I have since lost. I think it was worth the pain, time off from work and money paid. However I'm not so sure I'd feel the same way if I had my stomach done and it didn't turn out perfect. It's hard to hide your stomach when your dancing short of wearing a waist cincher
Also a bit of advice, ask your doctor when you can start stretching before you head back to work. I could barely spread my legs or lie on my back because I had been off work for five weeks and the tissue healed tight. It can be quite painful if you don't practice to go back.
Best of luck to you and I hope your surgery is complication free![]()
See what I did is I plumped up before my lipo so i didn't have to worry about gaining weight after it... now it should be pretty easy for me to take of the weight... not sure if this is the correct method but I'll let you know how mine works out... so far so good... I posted my results on the thread Lipo Day 1 results
Hi Tinkle, I'm curious about your procedure, I also live in NYC and was thinking of getting Lipo in December in Miami, but if this procedure is better and not so expensive I'm interested, can you tell me around how much it cost you? I really only want my hips and outer thighs done, Thanx
Dream,
When I was doing research before my surgery I found this incredible doctor in NYC, his name is Dr. Jacobs. He does the ulrasonic liposuction ( I think thats right) and the price foor a rib to knee at that time, four years ago, was about $9,000. Now I went to a doctor in Cali because I really wanted that doctor to do my breast. But I def would have had Dr. Jacobs do my lipo if that was all that I wanted done.
