    Default salicylic acid

So, I tried this is a face wash to try to get rid of blackheads. I noticed that it was really drying out my face. Almost making it sag.

Anyway, i was leafing through my vitamin book (Mindell's vitamin bible old edition) and it said aspirin/aka salicylic acid depletes vitamin C.

Now, considering how important this is to my face. I won't use it.

What's your thoughts on it. Everyone is raving about aspirin masks. Does anyone else have a newer editon of this book?

    This book might help: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/044...372703?ie=UTF8

But yeah, we humans don't produce our own Vitamin C like animals do. So taking Vitamin C is good idea and fortunately Vitamin C, & Vitamin C Ester topical creams actually penetrate the skin and make a huge difference. I've gotten by with just using cheapo brands found at GNC/Vitamin World etc for years. It's a good idea to be using this anyway since most of us work in smoky clubs. (Vitamin C really helps fight all that free radical damage from smoke, pollution and the sun).
And funny, when I looked up Salicylic Acid in the Wrinkle Cure book, "sagging skin, vitamin c to treat" was listed above it in the index.
    Hope this helps.

It does dry out your skin so you should use moiturizer. Also, if using salicylic acid you should NEVER expose your skin to UV rays or at least wear sunscreen!!

I think Sal. Acid products should be used only once every so often, maybe if you're experiencing breakouts. I just did an aspirin mask last week, but was careful to only do my t-zone. Then for the next few days I made sure to keep my face really clean and moisturized. You leave your pores open and susceptable - so the avoiding UV rays is probably good advice. I made sure to have a clean pillowcase and clean my cellphone - etc.

I didn't know that about the Vit. C depletion though. It makes sense.

Any acid products- glycolic, lactic and salicylic- needs to be used with precaution regarding sun exposure.

Depending on your skin type, you can use a low level salicylic acid every day. To be honest with you, I think it's the detergents in your cleanser that's making your skin more dry... many cleansers containing salicylic acide tends to marketed to ppl with super oily/acneic skin, so they can be harsh. If you're going to use SA, I recommend it as an applied product than a wash-off product in order to have real results.

Many things deplete Victmin C. Take supplements if that's a big concern for you. I take Emergenc-C once a day along with a vitamin c chewable tablet, but I'm a smoker. You'll need less if you're not heavy on sun exposure, tanning, certain diets, etc.

Salicyclic acid makes me break out. My sister too. Wish it didn't take me so long to figure that out.

I have been doing at home glycolic peels for the last few weeks and it has greatly reduced the amount of my blackheads. You do have to make sure to wear a strong broad-spectrum sunscreen though. I also use a vitamin c serum at night and it has really helped to improve my skin tone.

Just something you might want to try!

Are you allergic to aspirin? If you are, you'll react to salicylic acid. MANY products contain salicylic acid, so it could have been other ingredients in the stuff you used that made you break out...
