    Default I SUCK (at cooking)

I can't cook. Or, at the very least, I can't cook anything with any small degree of nutrious content (I rock the party with cakes, brownies, cookies, etc). I'm really and truly awful (but you should taste my gingerbread men...yum!).
That being said, I recently became a vegetarian. I'm still consuming dairy and eggs at the moment, but that may change. I haven't decided yet.
I throw myself on the mercy of the forum, hoping that there are people who can give me pointers and maybe recipes (really freakin easy recipes). I really don't want to subsist on pasta and salad forever.

Well, if you're still eating eggs, there's lots of things you can do with them. You can make quiches, omelettes, egg foo yung, etc. What else.....you can make your own pizzas, even pita pizzas, with cheeses and veggies, they even have a good selection in store. Quesadillas, wraps, sandwiches..........god, there's a ton of easy things to make. You could make a big soup with veggie broth, lots of veggies, and put some veggie crumbled burger in. Get italian, it tastes sooooooo good in soup. You could make all sorts of wonderful things with vegetables and fruits too. As for recipes, I'm more of a go with the flow kind of girl hah but you can find any thing on the internet I suppose. Good luck, cooking is really fun and relaxing.

    My fav super easy recipes....

Pita pizza - Cover pita with pizza sauce, top with mushrooms, olives, onions, peppers, artichoke hearts, tomatoes, (any other veggies you like) and mozzarella cheese. Stick on baking pan and broil til cheese melts.

Tostada - Top tortilla with beans (whatever kind you like) cheese and tomatoes. Cook in pan lined with pam or other nonstick spray until crispy and cheese melts. Top with salsa and or hot sauce.

These are also pretty healthy, I got them from ediets.com. You can also make yummy sandwiches and salads by adding stuff you normally wouldn't add. Egg salad sandwiches, or a salad topped with veggies, eggs, and mandarin oranges is YUMMY. good luck

I'm not good a cooking either, but can throw together a salad and bake chicken and fish and stuff. However, if I experiment with something, it usually comes out tasting like hell. This is one of the main reasons I don't cook often for my BF...he's actually a good cook, and he politely eats when I make something, but I don't want to subject him to my cooking...hehe.

I'm thinking of investing in some cookbooks and following the directions exactly. Perhaps, Rozz, this will work for you too. If the directions are easy, and there aren't too many steps, then you can practice cooking easy meals and work your way up to more complicated ones.

I started with breakfasts. Try an omelett. Mix up 2 or 3 eggs in a bowl. spray a pan with a little olive oil. Dump in the eggs and immediately add the middle. THe easiest is shredded cheese. once it's the egg is semi-solid, flip the "empty" side over the cheezy side. in 2 more minutes, flip it over and maybe sprinkle some more cheese on top.

Your first few omelets will probably break open, fold wierd, or whatever... but once you get the "flip" down, it's a really quick easy breakfast.

Once you have that down, start adding fun stuff like veggies or breakfast meat that you have cooked up in another pan.

Good luck, I was once the same as you. If I can cook, you can.

I have this book and it is really good! I grab it when I forget how high to bake potatoes or something!

There are a lot of cook books for people who "can't cook". In fact I was just at the book store yesterday and saw some. I think they even had a cooking for dummy's type book.

You can try to find a place around your area that can give you some cooking lessons. I want to do that in the near future. I can cook too, but not that great.

I can't cook much myself. I don't really like to do it either. I either buy food out or I recently hired a personal chef that will come to my home and cook me a month's worth of dinners that I can freeze.

I like to get those pillsbury biscuits in the can and then turn them into masterpieces like cinnamon rolls, bacon egg and cheese mcmuffins, and little pizzas...yeah.

    I'm sick.

    I love those little doughballs.

    yay for vegetarians!!

i like to stirfry vegetables and quorn chicken squeeze in a lemon and add a little tomato puree and some rocksalt. yummy and very few carbs

easy pasta sauce: fry off some onions and mushrooms and add some cream cheese (do you have philadelphia over there?!) pour over pasta. this is so quick.

yummy vegan treat (if you decide to cut out dairy) - slice open a banana and fill the cavity with dark chocolate chips (from the bakery section) and microwave. SO YUMMY.

errrr.... to be honest i am a terrible cook too, but those are a few easy and quick things i can do that are healthy.

I'm a pretty good cook, and here are the faves....

Never get good at everything. Won't work. It's like learning one dance. Will you bank? No. Learn HOW to dance, then improv.

    Stuff you need:

Joy of Cooking. Book. Big and daunting. That's ok. It has a little of EVERYTHING. Veggie, not, pies, soups, everything. It will last forever. Mmmm.

Best site on the web: www.allrecipies.com. They have everything. Searchable and all the recipies are reviewed by people who made them! So actual people like you write in and say "Really good" or "too complex, I set it on fire!"

Good luck! Gotta start somewhere, but remember, if you can read, you can cook.

    Update:

Signed up for a macrobiotic cooking class that looked like fun. We'll see if anything catches on fire. Why can I pull off baked alaska and not a stir fry? I just don't get it. The mystical powers of the universe want me to be fat, I just know it.

Well, my favorite and easiest way to cook is to put it in a tinfoil packet and throw it in the oven at 400 degrees. I can make a whole damn meal that way, but I still eat fish.

So I might put some salmon on a sheet of tinfoil, drizzle it with olive oil, a squeeze of lemon juice, and some black pepper, wrap up the tinfoil like a present and toss it in the oven for 20 minutes to an hour, depending on if the salmon was thawed out or frozen.

Scrub a red potato, cut it up in chunks leaving on the skin (lots of nutrients in it) dump it on sheet of tinfoil. Drizzle with olive oil and chopped chives. Fold up, toss in oven for 45-60 minutes.

Dump a handful of baby carrots on sheet of tinfoil, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle on light brown sugar. Fold up, toss in oven for 45-60 mintures. Super duper yummy.

You can do this with all sorts of veggies and meat for those non vegetarians. I cook for my boyfriend this way and he thinks I'm the most fantastic cook. Just experiment with different spices. I love it because I can throw the stuff in the oven and primp myself the whole time everything is cooking.

The salmon, the potatoes, toss together a quick salad, chill a bottle of wine and your boyfriend will think your a fucking goddess.

Mine still hasn't figured out that I really can't cook!
