Default I'm so confused. Moving to L.A to dance? good choice?

Hello...ive never danced before..but, i have this modeling manager out in L.A(i met him there when i was on vacation, i really live in hawaii) and he says i should come out and live in L.A or, around L.A to pursue my modeling career and start dancing. but, first of all, i dont really like L.A....well, some parts are okay.

however, i heard the money isnt good in l.a. is that true? what are the rules for L.A? are there ANY no contact clubs at all? thats the only kind of club id work at...with no extras.
my manager said i could make at least 1,000 a night for working like 3 nights a week and suposely he'd find me a way to be a feature in clubs.

do you think it would be worth it working in L.A ? im only 19? are there many topless clubs? or all most all nude? id mostly like to work in a topless..but im fine with nude.

any advice? or any links to older threads that could help me? i searched alot but just would like some opinons THANKS SO MUCH! im so confused!

    Translation of Manager.
    Come to LA.
Well I thought there were jobs.
Hey, guess what I got a job for you doing porn .. just GG.
Well, how was I s'posed to know it included 8 guys, a dog, and a club?

Translation of what I just said.
Be very careful and stay close to home.

Agree with the above. At least wait a couple of years until you are, ya know, bar-freaking-legal before you move to a strange city on the advice of a strange man.

Rule of thumb from a veteran dancer:

You NEVER move to a place UNTIL you TEST THE WATERS!!!

Here is how you do it.

    Ship your car to LA.
Get a weekly rate motel with refrigerator and microwave.
Plan to stay at least 30 days.
Make sure AFTER your airfare and car shipping, you have enough money to live on for one month ( $4000-$5000 or so)

It will take you awhile to get hired in a club. Topless clubs are no good in LA. Nude is the most money and money is up and down.

The LA metro area has over 16 million people and is established. It's growth days were over in the 60's. It is not an up and coming place. It does not hav e the best strip club market in the country.

So, bottom line, before you move anywhere, go to that metro area TEMPORARILY, try to get hired, work for 3-4 FULL weeks and see how it pans out. If the money is hard to get, or it is hard to get hired, that is a place to leave alone.

Keep trying different places until you find your niche. That is why you MUST have a late model car of your own and drive. You can move around to different cities trying to get hired and work in them until you find one you can make money in and one that you find liveable and affordable. THEN, and only then do you move.

Being in Hawaii you are used to a high cost of living so LA housing and gas prices won't shock you. The night life and shopping is good in LA as well as the ethnic diversity, but there are places with better strip clubs.

You just need to have enough money and a car so you can find a city that will provide you a comfortable living. As I said, LA is past it's heyday. It is NOT a place to establish a modeling career. You are just another fish in the sea there.

Yes, and $1000/night is not feasible in any stretch of the imagination, even perhaps if you did extras. $1000/wk is more like it, working 3 nights/wk if you are not lazy. At 19, I wouldnt recommend a big move on a dream, either, unless you had quite a bit of money on your hands already. You do not want to be at the mercy of 'agents' or 'managers' who know that they can break your will when you have -100 in your checking account or need to pay for your motel/hotel room.

I agree with all of the above. I think this "manager" is a little in over his head. I suggest you try dancing before moving somewhere far to do something you've never even done. I still don't get how you'd be a feature without ever dancing? Whatever, just watch out.

I've been in LA for a week now (leaving tomorrow), and I've worked at two clubs and auditioned at 3 others.

This is a rough place to be a stripper. The very first lap dance I did here (for a *seemingly* nice business man), about 30 seconds into it the customer grabs a hold of my hand and shoves it down his pants.

After paying the club their 50% cut of the lap dance fee, I got $15. The girls are very high milage in the dances here, and $15 is just not enough money for me to do those kind of dances. Sheesh, I get $25 for an air dance at home.

I can't say that all the clubs in the LA area are like that, but of the ones I did go to, that seemed pretty par for the course.

Tina's advice is good. Try it for a little while to see if you like it, and if you feel the way about it that I do, then you can just go back home. You aren't throwing yourself into a losing situation.

yeah the manager is full of shit ... LA clubs are nasty , or the decent ones are swamped with beautiful girls - so competition is tough - that want to be actresses and models.
1000 a night in LA? whatever!
    that s no comment.
when i worked there i had a custie trying to steal my money from the rubber band tied to the side of my shorts during a lapdance!!!!!
    he actually took 20 bucks!!!

Don't go to Los Angeles. No. Bad stripper! Grabby. Disgusting. Wanting things you don't offer that others do. Blowjobs in full view. Prostitution for cab fares home. And this was one night!

As much as I would love to see you dance, Windy, I have to tell you that this "manager" is either a rotten liar or is monumentally stupid. A thousand-dollar night in Los Angeles would be grounds for a major celebration. I've been dancing for over a year and I've still never had one. As for modelling, you don't have to move to L.A. to do that. Thousands of pretty girls show up in this town every day planning to be models and actresses; 99% wash out and wind up sucking dick for bus fare home.

There's much less money in topless dancing and you aren't old enough anyway (you have to be 21). And while not all the clubs here are as skanky as the girls here are making them sound, it also takes a lot of experience and maturity to know how to handle these guys. There are not any zero-contact clubs here, although it's possible to be a low-mileage dancer in a high-mileage club if you don't mind making a little less money and you know how to hustle hard.

Your "manager" sounds like a wannabe pimp who is trying to put you in a vulnerable spot. Don't do it, don't do it, don't do it. Dancing here if you have to live here for other reasons is one thing, but it's damn sure not worth moving for.

I guess I should have posted my link:

    Hope that helps.

I think she can be 18 and work in a nude club, but then the contact level goes from normal to high.

I think either either situation is not what she is looking for ultimately. I'd say stay home.

.I never dance in LA before so I couldn't tell you if the money is good or not. One thing I could tell you, you do not have to dance to become a model. Also it depends on what kind of modeling you want to do. On the other hand the story he told you sounds like a pimp line. A lot of pimps in the big cities sale a lot of young girls dream. It sounds good but trust me if he puts you in a club and send you to LA he will make you think you owe him, having you believe you could’ve never came here and made money with out him and have you pay the bills with your money you make. If you want to go to LA go alone, with your own money you do NOT need help getting a job as a dancer you look good. he is a pimp be careful.
