Can I take Ibuprofen and Tylenol together?

I know you can't mix either of them with aspirin. I've taken four tylenol (recovering from monstrous bacterial infection that a dose of two won't touch for shit), and was wondering if I could take two ibuprofen and two tylenol.

The internet isn't helping me much. I saw one link that says yes because one works stronger and the other longer so it's okay to overlap.

    what say you?

i say you're asking for a tummy upset. ibuprofen is a fantastic pain reliever but it's super rough on your stomach lining.

if your pain is bad enough to consider double-dosing on OTC medicine (over-the-counter... not outside-the-club LOL), i would consider seeing your quack for something stronger and specifically made for you sitch, otherwise you run the risk of adding stomach/intestine pain to your list...

just a doctor's kid talking... just be wary of exceeding the doses.

I've taken regualr doeses in the same day, but not together. I would go for perscription if I needed stronger.

Ibuprofen is great, and like Nautilis said it can give you an upset stomach. I think it has only done that to me once.

yes you can. they are different "classes" of drugs. (i am a pharmacy technician by trade). 2 of each is perfectly fine to take together. tylenol will help with pain the ibupr. will help with swelling, which in turn helps reduce pain.

^ I was going to say, when I was recovering from having my wisdom teeth pulled, I was told I could take ibuprofen with tylenol in between the Percocet doses (I was running low and couldn't get another prescription).

You can take 800 mg of ibuprofen up to 3 times a day...no more frequently than that or you risk a stomach ulcer. I would also suggest taking it with some food. You can take 1000 mg of tylenol every 6 hours, but no more frequently than that or you risk liver damage. Yes, you can take them together, but do not mix alleve, naprosyn, aspirin, or other anti-inflammatories with the ibuprofen.

I've taken advil and tylenol on the same days during my period to relieve period cramps...just don't overdo either one and you should be fine. also, it might be a good idea to limit or avoid alcohol on these days you your liver can process the tylenol.
