Default mistakes you made starting out

I searched and couldn't find a similar thread... but let me know if this has been done.

What were some major mistakes you made starting out?

After having my eyes fixed with lazers, I realized that part of the reason I majorly SUCKED at my first hustle-type-club was the fact that I COULDN'T SEE THE CUSTOMERS (duh!), therefore couldn't make eye contact or read body language. I just didn't realize how huge this was until later when I started wearing my glasses. Wow. No wonder I got frustrated and ended up quiting!

I could see their body, but from a few feet away couldn't see their eyes or where/if they were looking. Made it really hard to gauge who was or wasn't interested.

I also wasted my time talking to people like I was there to socialize.

    How about you guys?

Ha! I've been dancing for 7 years and I still make the same stupid mistakes; only difference now is that I know I am making them, duh!

    Some but not limited to....
    drinking, drinking, and getting drunk
sitting around in the dressing room or at the bar
not going back when a custy says "come back later"
thinking when I'm PMSing and bloated that I'm the fattest girl in the club
letting one bad thing that happens make it horrible for the rest of the night
not organizing my money in my purse
pissing off the house mom or dj

    ...just to name a few

My worst n00b mistake? Two words... Baby Oil.

I finally got contacts. I think it will help at work if I can SEE the guys. It's just a pain getting used to them.

    The contacts or the guys?

My most common newbie mistake by far was waiting too long to ask for a dance.

My most embarrassing mistake was buying ill-fitting thongs that slipped to the side. Our manager once came up and tugged my thong back into place for me WHILE I WAS ON STAGE. The club was dead so no one was there to see, but geez...

Pretty much the same thing here. Waiting too long to ask for a dance, had a few dumb outfits, did not smile enough, sitting with broke asses too long, and hangin out in the dressing room too much.

Now my biggest prob is assuming someone doesn't want a dance, and not sitting with enough customers. I get discouraged too easily.

Ok, I made a thousand mistakes. First of all, the very first day I got hired, the manager told me to get a cocktail dress. So like a moron, I went to Dillard's and bought a real cocktail dress. Talk about being overdressed and feeling stupid!

I also commited all the other sins-

-bragging about money or crying about the lack of
    -gossiping
    -dated the manager/owner
-let other girls borrow my clothes (never to be seen again)
    -loaned girls money (duh!)
-lost money somewhere in the club
-got completely wasted (I got so wasted one night that I did a ton of dances and didn't even get any of my money, I WORKED FREE ALL NIGHT!)
-was too shy to ask for dances, so I never asked half the men I should of
-hung by the bar all night and cried "Woe is me, I'm so broke"

And I am sure there are more. Plenty more. It makes me sound like the worst dancer ever! I promise I was good, sometimes!

Oh and let me add, the very first night I ever danced, I found a little baggie of white powder in the girls room by the toilet. I was so naive and I came out of the bathroom waving it around saying that someone must have lost their makeup! Yes, while in a cocktail dress from Dillard's!

I use to fall for "sit here, don't worry, I'll take care of you". I'd sit for 1/2 hr and they would jet on me......had to learn the hard way!

LMAO how funny! By the way is that you in your avater? If it is you look frighteningly similar to Britney Spears...

One of my newbie mistakes was talking to all the dancers and listening to their endless gossip. I learned that it is best to stay out of everything and everyone's business. It's best to be the "what's that girls name again?" than to be involved in everyone's drama.

1.) letting the bitching about money/customers change the way i thought
2.) not treating it like a 'real job'
3.) not having money goals at the time
4.) being in denial, thinking i wasn't a 'real' stripper, therefore i didn't have to 'try'.
5.) wearing dumb shoes in the beginning
6.) not being tougher with the customers when they were being asses
7.) not learning how to hustle properly
8.) letting the really 'good' and 'experienced' girls intimidate me
9.) letting bad nights affect me as if making a small amount of money equated to my worth
10.) not finding SW before i started & finished dancing

    hmm...

i made many mistakes as a new dancer: at first i didn't have much confidance so it effected my ability to sell and hustle dances, and i fell into the drug trap my first year of dancing after a traumatic incident, and then i let myself get involved in drama with girls and club politics, and not having a clue what to wear (red satin full-briefs are NOT a good idea on the first day...lol). i think most girls go through these things unless they've been exposed to the club environment and/or an informative site such as this. like nautilus, i wish i had access to this site when i started. luckily, i learned a lot in the first year and things got better after that.

    Getting a little TOO buzzed
    Wearing normal underwear.
Wearing regular string thongs (flashed all the goods!)
    Socializing too much
    Hiding in the DR
    ....

    1) letting girls tell me how to dance.
    2) not approaching other girls regulars when the ladies weren't working
    3) thinking that I should be friendly and honest with everyone.
    4) Overtipping when tipping out, thinking it would be appreciated.
    5) working at the Blue moon cabaret in NY. lol ...
    6) Trying out new floor work and pole tricks on stage before ever trying another time.
    7) not going back to customers after they tell me in a bit
Dating guys and having them come into my work to hang out ...

well i was lucky i had a good mentor so at least wearing the right stuff wasnt an issue.

but i was so worried about going on stage i didnt really know that most of the money was made giving lap dances so my first few were so bad! i know it sounds hard to mess up grinding but with new 6 inch shoes, and the seats were at a weird hight, and there was this little platform next to you that was perfect for tripping on...oh well.

Gah! There's so many of these "beginner mistakes" that I still make. Somehow I thought after a year I wouldn't be a newbie anymore, but I still kinda feel like one. Oh, well. You're never done learning.

too funny! On a similar note when I first started out I was SO naive about drugs that guys woud ask "so...do you party?" and I'd say "yeah sure..I go out wit my friends, we have a lot of fun"...DUH! Took a cpl weeks to catch on...so there are a lot of guys who prob think I'm a wicked druggie!

I also made the mistakes of drnking too much, letting other people tell me what to do, puttingup with WAY more than I shoud in the hopes that the guy will spend money...
People always ask me, did I ever learn anything when I was a stripper? Yeah, I did. One man plus two beers equals 20 dollars.

Worst mistake I made on my first night was sitting with a guy who told me that he was lonely, traveled a lot, didn't have a woman and had cash.....after being on stage a million times and having only an hour left of my shift....I just got up and left the poor guy (the only nice guy I had talked to all nite, by the way). I'm sure some other girl got his money.
