Probiotics? Please help me, I'm so worn down after being sick so long

so I got this expensive forty dollar bottle of probiotics that my chiropractor recommended to me. I trust him not to sell me crap nor to sell me something that's just hocus pocus placebos, but I honestly don't know a whole lot about probiotics.

can some one help me? I've been sick for so long, been on three treatments of antibiotics (getting worse after being shorted a couple pills on the second treatment, thus the third.) This is the sickest I've been in my entire life and though I'm able to eat and drink now (not kidding, there were about six days where that really wasn't possible, even water) I still feel really bad. I've still got some mucus issues and I just get so worn out so easily. I'm able to get up and do errands, and I do get energy spurts sometimes, but I'm just still so worn out most of the time. I'm nauseaus even when I'm hungry and on top of that I have a loss of appetite like I can't figure out what I could get down over the nausea. I still eat, like today I had cantelope, sushi and half a trader joe's salad, but it's really hard.

I just have one more dose of the levaquin. I can either ask for three more days to get the full 14 days max you can be on that, or maybe I'm just so tired because my immune system has had the shit kicked out of it.

how long does it take to get one's energy back when you're not really sick per se (compared to before)?

Are probiotics a load of crap or are they going to get my body up and running again after it's been completely stripped on the inside?

thanks. i really appreciate any help. really.

probiotics definitely work after your system has been bombed by all these drugs. as long as they are 'live' ie. you have to keep them in the fridge. they definitely do work to rebalance your system.

query whether your antibiotics are the right ones if you're not actually starting to feel better. you should notice a rapid change. god damn these bastards who can't count out the proper dose of pills for you!!

if you are supposed to take a 14 day course, then take all 14 days. i still recommend acupuncture for your immune system. i don't care if it's just 'placebo'... what works, works. i've had it help me for everything from allergies to PMS. i've had chats with my doctor friends as well, who agree - even if something is just placebo, if it works, do it.

i know how depressing feeling sick all the time can be. if you are disappointed with how the drugs are working out for you, try some complementary therapies and see if it helps.

probiotics are NOT NOT NOT a load of crap, especially with antibiotics--- see antibiotics are not bacterial specific. They don't target just the bacteria that is making you sick, they target ALL bacteria in your body, including the good bacteria that keeps your digestive system happy... Thats why you get sick from antibiotics, unfortunately, and why many get yeast infections, because without the bacteria to keep all the bad stuff at bay, it can, and will, multiply much more rapidly.

I hope i could have been of some help-- however, i dont believe that probiotics in a pill are worth so much money-- as long as you eat yogurt that has LIVE ACTIVE CULTURES and is NOT sugar free, you should be okay... the thing is-- if its sugar free, its not possible for it to have live cultures, keep that in mind--- theres stuff called kefir juice or maybe just kefir, but it tastes good and also has probiotics.

I AM feeling better compared to what I WAS Feeling. I was really really horrible that thinking about it makes me want to cry. now I'm mostly just a little congested, have a little phlegm plug at the back of my throat that is annoying, and I just get so worn out. Like right now, I just woke up from a four hour nap, and granted, I slept like crap last night, but I just want to feel normal.

But I'm not having any yeast infections right now (oddly enough though I eat the occasional yogurt.) I don't give a rat's ass about my intestinal system right now unless it's going to make the rest of me feel better.

so I wasn't sure if probiotics could do that. I went to a new doctor than the one who did the second dose of antibiotics (fucker) and he said eleven days of levaquin should do me, but I just don't know if I need MORE antibiotics because I'm not all the way better (like before it took me TWO DAYS to feel all better on the second dose even though I took everything the doctor gave me. Seven days of hell and about four more of really worn outnes is what happens when you don't take the full dose ladies-- something to remember.

I need help. I'll go back to the doctor tomorrow but I'm pretty sure he's just going to say that my systems shot and it will take a while to get back. I'm scared it never will
    I really am.

what are you on the antibiotics for? they are often over prescribed, many times when people are sick they have a virus which wont be helped by pills at all. a virus can also take a long time to go away, as opposed to when you are on antibiotics and you should feel better in 1 -3 days.

I keep probiotics in my daily diet (esp. when "Evil Catherine" comes to call). They're in lots of foods, mostly yogurts. I have Kefir (a yogurt-y drink) mixed with a touch of vanilla ice cream. It's AMAZING. ... In fact, I think I'll go have some now! XD

Probiotics are good, but definitely better when they come from a natural source IMO.
