    Default Dancer's duty

I searched for this, but it's hard to know what words to look for.

What do you think your duty is, as a dancer? I mean this in the sense of, if you have a regular come in 4 nights a week, and pays you enough to make it worth sitting with just him, do you have a duty to your club to entertain others as well?

If all the girls just sat with regulars, and never worked the floor, no new customers would come in. Then, as the regulars drifted away, there would be no one to replace them. At the same time, we are independent contractors (well, a lot of us are) and we can do as we please, we don't have a legal obligation to talk to a single customer if we don't want to.

I'm in between on this one. I try to work the room, but at the same time, I have regulars who are good for consistent money, and I don't want to f that up.

There is no duty. For all the new customers, there's a new dancer with no regulars. We come and go just as much as they do.

Most of my regs understand that I am there to make $$. I sit and yap with them as much as I can, but when new people (or other regs) come in, they understand when I excuse myself. I will come back and check back with them through the night, and sit with them again if I can. The culture in my club is that you get paid for dancing, not for sitting. Sitting is really jsut PR time/get off your feet time.

You might try telling them that youneed to get up and mingle, but if they would be kind enough to watch your (empty) purse/kews/phone/drink, you will be back in a little while.

It's a balancing act, but, for the most part, your "duty" is to do what makes the most money for you. It's good to respect your regulars and spend enough time with them, after all, that's part of what keeps them coming back. But, a good regular will know you have to work others in the room. You could always say, "my manager wants me to mingle a little bit, but i'll be back soon," to a reg who doesn't understand, provided he doesn't know others in the club personally. as for your duty to the club, most places are set up so that when you make money, they do too, so it's in your and their best interest to maximize your profits. for clubs where this is not the case, do your stage sets when needed, but think of yourself first and foremost.

If you are paying the club to work there, you have no duty to them.

But if you spend all your time on regs, you are losing money. Not only by ignoring those other guys who are there wanting dances, but by giving away the farm to the regs. By nature, regs always start to expect more from you, and/or to pay you less - which means at some point, you're wasting time with them.

To maximize profit, you should give the regs enough time to keep them entertained and spending, but work the other guys as well. Balance, like bloody said.

^ Absolutely. Bridgette is right on.

Sitting with regulars really puts other guys off. They're even territiorial & jealous as customers. (I've asked them.)

While the club likes you to talk with as many customers as possible, your concerns should be with yourself, not the club. I've actually thought about this before and I decided that I will do what makes me the most money. If it's a regular, than that's who I'll spend my time with. There are other girls. Very rarely am I with regulars for the whole shift, then I go mingle for a bit. Usually, if guys see you getting a bunch of dances, they'll wonder whyyou're so special and on and on it goes. I agree with B, don't let your regulars get too used to you, they'll start to assume you really like them and the money will decrease.

Isn't a regular coming in 4 nights a week likely to burn out before too long?

I've had dancers tell me that they had to go sit with a regular because he was worth good $$$. Most of the time, it doesn't bother me because I want the girl to make her money, but when it happens too frequently with the same girl, I start to get my feelings hurt. After all, I brought her money too.....

I would talk to a few new people too cause you never know who is worth more than your regular or who you can turn into a regular for when that one stops coming - but like lilithmorrigan says, there will always be a newer dancer whos still trying to build regulars to take care of them.

As far as the club is concerned, our "duty" is to entertain their paying customers and to take our turn on stage.

You can look at it like any other business, if the customer is there, and you know he/she will be in at a certain time and stay for X amount of time, it is simple enough to turn down other customers who did not plan their trip ahead of time.

Lillithmorrigan said it perfectly. I'd like to add there are plenty of dancers just like me who don't have regulars (by my choice, I don't like to work that way). That leaves plenty of girls available for the occasional strip club customer.

Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!

I've only sat with people who were actively paying me. If they weren't paying, I wasn't staying. I was there to make money, not friends or hook-ups.

I don't actually have a regular who comes in 4 nights a week. This was just an example.

On a typical night, I'll have 2 or 3 guys who always get dances from me come into the club. Some might only get 2 dances, some might get 10. I got into a conversation with a friend who has been around clubs and specifically my club, for quite a few years. He thinks that if we want our club to continue to be busy and do well, we have to bust our asses to make sure all the guys are entertained.

We have too few girls, and many times a guy can go an hour without a girl approaching him. Many girls will be sitting with a regular or with one or two new customers who are paying pretty well, and these guys who were never approached will leave without ever getting a dance. I don't think it's my duty to bust my butt to entertain guys to enhance the business at the club. It's their duty to hire enough girls so that I don't have to spread myself so thinly.
