Hey,
Was just wondering if anyone could offer info on areas of Vegas that would be good to live in with children? You know, nice and safe!
Thanks!

The west side...Henderson,etc. The east side is a little shall we say wild!!
The southwest or southeast. I personally like the east like DJ Maimed mentioned.

The most popular is Summerlin, but also the most expensive. South west, below there, is where i lived, next best thing, more affordable, but Summerlin is exquisite!! The family area - the best schools, tree lined streets, just great.
I lived there 2 yrs and just moved to SF but still there every month to work.
Good luck,
Gerry.

omg...i just read the other places people said - yeah Henderson, is also very popular, as it's more affordable, but PLEASE stay away from the east side of town all together. There is a serious gang problem, shhootings like every week, armed robbery you name it. You'll see once you start watching the news, so if you gonna do henderson, do the south or western parts.
green valley, a part of henderson, is only 10 minutes from the center of town... key word green valley ranch. It is close to the highway, high end shopping like whole foods, and the Green Valley Ranch itself....some parts of henderson are further than others.....some parts of summerlin have easy highway access and are not that far....other parts of summerlin are 35 minutes from the center of town

I grew up in the southwest/Spring Valley area and it still continues to be great place to raise kids as they were smart enough to build a lot of parks in the area which are well maintained to this day. Summerlin is also nice as well and yet you'll find higher housing costs there.

I live at the beginning of Summerlin and only pay $1,100 a month for a nice 2 bed/2bath condo - not everywhere is expensive in that area. There are TONS of parks and it's really quiet.
Henderson is in the east. I'm sure you are talking directly east of the strip, not just east in general?Originally Posted by geraldine

(I live in Henderson on the border of Anthem and I love it BTW!)
Definitely Summerlin. If you plan to rent you will have a lot of negotiating power as there are over 20 pages of homes for rent in Vegas in the RJ, many unoccupied. You will be closer to Red Rock in Summerlin, which is a great place to take the kids in the warmer months. Summerlin is farther from the Strip than Green Valley so you get more families, few parties. The area is quiet by 10pm usually. Lots of great restaurants on W. Charleston, referred to as "restaurant row" by locals. Lots of nice new shopping centers. The only thing we don't have that Green Valley has is the new Whole Foods--largest one in the country. We do have a great big Costco though!! My favorite. And the nicest high school in the city--looks like a University. If you are buying it is a buyer's market. People have lost a lot of money in the real-estate market here the past year. Many can't sell their homes so they are dropping prices. The economy, while good, just can't sustain California housing prices.
