Quitting Depo Provera after long term use

Sorry in advance for the redundant thread, but I just have to know, and I've been reding the other threads but I didn't see an answer to my question.

I've been on Depo for a year and a half now. When I first started I gained like 25 pounds in one or two months. After this gain I've been pretty steady with my weight - it won't come off, but didn't increase, either.

Anyways, i was wondering if any of you ladies quit depo after a long term and did you lose the weight right away, or did it take you 6 months or more to lose it? Do you even lose it at all?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

I was on Depo for 8 years. I started out at 127 and topped out weighing about 155. I was also inactiive, and didnt diet or exercise. I stopped taking Depo around the same time I started dancing, and the weight just melted off and I went back down to 130 in no time at all, with the only exercise being dancing 5 nights a week.

You don't have to have a period. You can just not break for one if you're taking pills or wearing a patch. (That's what I did for three years and I was fine.)

(And if you reacted badly to the medication, and gaining weight is a bad reaction, why did you continue to use it?)

I second taking the pill continuously. I've taken Mircette for 5 years, breaking every three packs for a period and sometimes not even that much. THat's all the new pill Seasonale is. It's just a plain old MONO-phasic (like ortho-cyclen, alesse, mircette, etc. NOT triphasic like ortho-tricyclen) pill but they have you take it 9 weeks in a row instead of just three. I finally found a cool gyno who told me that it was perfectly safe to do so and you don't have to buy the brand new, just-approved pill in order to do it. It's also possibly with the patch or the ring.

You do NOT have to live with weight gain. I've gotten thinner and thinner with little change in activity since I've been on Mircette. No gain at all.

I thought most hormonal birth control methods caused a weight gain.. and besides, I cringe at the thought of having to remember to take a pill at the same time every day.
But seriously, you don't gain weight on the pill?

^ You do. Everything you take has estrogen. Estrogen makes you gain weight. The shot is a HIGH dosage injected into your body so you get a shitload more estrogen at once which causes the sudden weight gain.

The patch sucks if you have long hair.

    The pill made me vomit.

It takes two years for your body to revert back to normal after taking the shot.

Try the ring. The dosage you get from the Nuvaring is lower than any BCP or shot.

Of course, all our bodies react differently. I gaiend weight on Ortho TriCyclen, but not on MIrcette. It is true that the ring is a lower dosage ans therefore more appealing than the pill. The most appealing option for me is the Mirena IUD. Because it distributes hormones directly to your equipment, it requires the lowest dosage of all. Plus it means no periods and no worrying about pregnancy for 5 years. As soon as I get the nerve I'm gonna get one.

I stopped getting the shot about 3 months ago. I was on it for about 3 years. Maybe I'm weird, but everything is already back to 'normal'. It was actually back to normal only a month after I stopped. Also, I haven't had any weight loss yet, but I'm crossing my fingers.
