    Default Tan Towels

.. are awesome! Anyone else use them? I've only started using the deeper/darker ones, the tan lasts about a week & you have to use about 2 or 3 to get your whole body evenly. No more tanning beds/real sun for me. I get them from a seller on ebay called excellenttan. Very good prices, about $1.39 per towel.

I like tan towels. I learned how to make my own.....if you're curious.

You wash baby wipes and let them dry completely. Then you saturate them with tanner. You can use the liquid they use in booths or the spray.

I mean, if you want DIY tan towels. I personally like lotions that I apply with gloves.

I'll have to try that tip Emily. I use the L'oreal Sublime tan towels and like them. For me they're easier to apply than lotion. I have to do self tanning a couple days a week for it to be dark enough though (I'm naturally really light.)

I like Neutrogena Foam bronzer with gloves. It never makes me streaky and I can see where its going.

you can't see the color til about 4 hours later.. I usually just do it right before bed and wake up with a nice tan. I may have to try Emily's idea once though.

I am also curious about the advantages of tan towels, not as opposed to the actual sun or to tanning beds, but as compared to the various self-tanning lotions/creams/foams. Is there an advantage to using what I assume is the same basic formula in towel-form?

^I believe the main reason the tan towels are better than other regular self-tan products you buy at the store is because of the natural looking (NOT orange) tan u get from them..imo.

    sorry...not true...

Almost all of self-tanning products that are out now have dihydroxyacetone (look on the ingredients). This is the ingredient that makes you tan, so two different application methods won't give you different color.

The difference between products is how much DHA it has, the filler ingredients and the application method. As long as you exfoliate properly and use an application method you're comfortable with (tan towels are good because they dry fast and give you even color), you should get a good color.

    bumping this to ask:

--how badly does this stuff come off on clothing? (my main peeve about some tanners! I fucking hate having my clothes ruined.)

    and

--how does it fade? (I did mystic tan once, and then decided to just let my skin go natural...for the next week straight I looked like my skin was coming off in patches! Like the mystic stuff, instead of fading fairly evenly, seemed like it was peeling off in chunks. It looked awful, like I was always dirty! Does the tan towel colour fade somewhat evenly?)

it doesn't come off on clothing because there is no bronzer. This is pretty much the main benefit of using a self-tanning product without a color guide. And the ones that do only do so until you shower. The bronzer is designed jsut to help you apply the tan, not be the tan.

and how it fades it really up to your skin, not the product. You are essentially staining your epidermis, so when that sheds, so does the tan. You can minimize shedding by exfoliating, but eventually it will all flake off.

You should exfoliate every 7-10 days with whatever self-tanner you're using and start all over, because none will look good after this time.
