    Default Climbing the Pole

Okay, so I'm starting to do tricks that look better at the top of the pole. But, my foot is so bruised! What part of your foot do you use to help you climb up? I use the raised part of the top of my foot... I don't know what it's called... The "top" part of the arch of your foot... Do I just need to wait for the callous or am I doing this all wrong?

i recommend using a the "sticky" side of your shoe..ideally the plastic/vinyl upper to help grip the pole.

The part over your toes, right? I TRY to... But it always ends up hitting that same area. I have high arches, maybe that has something to do with it?

yes, the part over your toes. if that doesn't work, try wearing vinyl boots if your club allows it. they helped me grip the pole until i built up enough arm strength to not need them anymore.

Bruises come with the territory I think. Everytime I learn ANYTHING new on the pole (or do a trick I haven't done for weeks) BAM bruises. After a few weeks they'll go away - just like any other pole trick.

your body will get used to it and stop bruising soon. i find using the grips of shoes can make a move look much less graceful. stick it out and it will improve

I use my right shin instead of the top of my foot for grip...maybe try that?

I use the top of the arch of my foot where the plastic of my shoe is, not over the toes, and then I use my shins.. each girls have their own style. A few girls at my club spin theirselves around the pole, then up.

yes, the top part will get bruised like a bitch! get some arnica cream and put that on immediatly after a pole session, it totally helps prevent massive bruising.

i bruise really bad their too because i have no "padding" at all, it's just skin and bone!

did you see the little vid i did on climbing? i wish my ceiling was higher so you could see how to climb more than 2 "climbs" ...not sure that made sense? too early.....need coffee!

I used to climb the pole in the same manner! Try using the outside of your foot and the shin! It evens the amount of pressure placed on the small bones on the top of your feet!

BE CAREFUL. If you bruise and bang the top of your foot too many times, you can break one of the bones. This is extremely painful!!

Boots do ensure a better grip on the pole. They allow you to use the entire side of your foot and shin for support!

It looks like I'm the only person here that uses the top of her ankle, haha. I use the sticky of my shoes also, but I try not too--kinda ruins my shoes quicker.

Blah! Everything I try... I always end up using the top of my foot anyways! It just rolls there. I left my boots at my parents house, I'm going to pick them up tomorrow. I'll just suffer through work today.

One thing I've been doing is jumping up and squeezing the pole between my thighs.

^^^yeah, that's what i do to get up initially, but we have a spinning pole, so i think that may make it easy to climb uo that way. then i use my shoe if i wanted to climb higher.

certain tricks seem to be tougher on the top of the foot though...i used to have a perma-bruise there. but it's been gone for a while now, even though i still do the same tricks.
