    Default Selling Mary Kay products

Has anyone sold Mary Kay before? I was thinking of doing it as a side job, but I know a girl from work sold Mary Kay a while ago and hardly anyone bought from her. Is it possible to make decent money selling Mary Kay, and how much work do you have to put into it?

It takes total committment and it's a pyramid scheme. I too have a friend who is making pretty good money selling Mary Kay (she's about to get the pink Cadillac), but it's a double fulltime job, the turnover rate is very high, there are some stories of very disappointed people out there, you have to be social, you have to build your customer base and hustle like a mofo. However, if that's what you love doing, go for it!

If you want to sell Beauty Products as a side income: become an Avon rep. Avon isn't a MLM as per Mary Kay and there is more flexibility in it than Mary Kay. In the end, Mary Kay is hard work just like every other MLM/Network Marketing program out there. There is a reason why I have pretty much stopped with selling Himalayan Goji Juice. When it seems that every man, woman and child is selling something... it is time to look elsewhere.

The only time MLM/Network Marketing works is when you get in "on the ground floor" (basically the early days) of something and have the time and money to devote to building a full time business out of it. Most people who want to do any MLM full time don't turn a profit in the first year... it's the second and subsequent years that are profitable.

I think it helps if you know a LOT about skin/hair/makeup in general. My mom always said i should sell MK. I always have an answer for her. If you know your products and find the people that actually buy MK/Avon, you can bank. Keep in mind though you have to spend money up front to buy your inventory.

My aunt did it, she never had to go door to door. I dunno, guess she just knew the right people.

great point. if you have access to a few good local markets where you can throw these parties, then the money can be good. my mom uses mary kay (she's devoted to it), and she has lots of friends who also use it. they spread the word and network for her mary kay lady (my mom doesn't sell). word of mouth is free advertising. my hometown was a "mary kay" town, so to speak. however, in an "avon-saturated" market, it might be harder. then again, this depends on your region. there will be other ladies selling makeup in your area, that's one thing to be sure of.
