Well I found a few more restaurant names, but noon as good as Fu King. Guess it is like going to Hong Kong and saying deal all the time. Our way of saying deal is the basic way of saying fuck you in HK.

There's a place here in Tampa called Ho House or something weird like that. I can't remember the exact name but every time I see it I laugh.

There is a Fu King Chinese restaurant in New Orleans too, or at least there used to be. Memphis used to have one called Ho's that always made me giggle. But the best was a deliberate pun - a little beachfront Chinese place in Orange Beach, Alabama, called A Wok on the Beach.

Paige, on my sacle you actually rate excellent, of course that is based on my own level of normality. I'm at 75% operational ability, and have nearly finished plan zero, which in ohter words it to get my health back from the trip. So yeah you can pester me. Plan one is commencing shortly, and that leads on to the imortant objectives.

Also, I tell everyone I'm from Melb'n and speek with as much aussie slang and accent I can muster. I don't need any yankee bullshit.

Back when I left I think 3 letters were more common, hence FLA.

There's a Melbourne in FL too, though I doubt you'll find it quite as engaging.

^^ Funnily enough I have thought about going there, and they actualy have a lot of Autoindustry design houses.... which might be in need of someone with my skills. Doubt I'd get paid the same rate here though.

    The Chuck E. Cheese Experience

Did any of your guys ever go there as a kid? What about Show Biz Pizza?

Well we did not have anything better to do with my son this afternoon, so the Empress and I headed out to Chuck E. Cheese. I had memories of these places as a kid. Parents would take me every couple of months or so I guess. Pizza, games, ball pitts, slides, skee ball, etc.

Well it is not what I remember it to be. Gone were the stage shows with multiple robitic things gryating and gesticulating in a song and dance. There was but one lousy mouse, and the rest was video. The games were cheep and the prizes very expensive. I can see these places have been consumed by corporate greed. Perhaps it was always like this, perhaps not.

The service was nice, but there were only two other famillies there. The place could hold 300+ The rides were intersting, and fun, but I can get it all at Galactic Circuis. The prize games were not what was expected. In melbourne, 50 tickets, will appease a 3 yearold, here you need about 1000. Games might be a quarter here (or yuck tokens), compred to Melbourne's dollar, but it is still 8 tickets to one coin. Unless of course your a skeeball master and can get the 10000 point shots continously.

Still I can't say my son had a bad time. He had a ball, him and me in an arcade=fun. The Empress not so much. I was even better at skeeball than her. Which I found weird her being an athlete and all.

Oh and the pizza was awful. Not the worse I ever had. That award goes to a shop in Frankston, salty and oily. At least these had some sauce on it.

We were hoping for lots of kids, but I guess it was a weekday so there were none around. If today was typical, you would wonder how they stay in business.

-If anyone can find a suitable location for a playday, man you could make a mint. Healthy, entertaining and engaging compared to this. www.playdays.com.au.

I'm sure we will go back once or twice, but I'd rather other activites, otherwise I'm going to have to cheat at skeeball.

Compared to what I saw today, it was much much better when I was a kid.

Anyone know where I can find some good pony rides for my son? My parents have been looking for 6 months now, but no luck, only bloody multi-million dolalr through breads out here.

Thanks Paige!! I'll run them through the map thing and see what is close. I wonder what methods of searching my parents have been up to?

I just wish I could sleep right now. Well no rest for the wicked. Do I ever get any sleep? I have not even had a red bull since arriving... finally found one in the grocery store now. It is the only item I've seen in a US grocery store that a single can is cheaper, than the multiple packs. The 4 pack cans cost nearly 1.99 a can, and the individual cans were 1.30. Go figure.

As for Chuck E. Cheese, or Show Biz Pizza, they have been around from 1977. However, I don't know if they would have made it up north. From 1 to 7 I was in Florida, and that is where I remember them. Don't really remember them anywhere else. Arcades yes, but not those places.

I was on Wikipedia, looking for info on the franchise progression, but did not find enough data. I know there are chains that never make it out of the region they start in. Sam Goody and Hardies or Crystals should be good examples of that. I can’t believe I never say a Sam Goody (Chicago Based record store) in the US, but found one in Hong Kong.

    _______________

In other news, I stumbled upon a car hop kind of place the other day, the car hops girls on roller-skates had been replaced with those dodgy take out ordering boards, looks like food is still brought out to you, but I think it is not by a cute girl in a skirt on wheels. Dam I miss those A&W root beer joints up North. Last one I knew closed about 199x, and stopped car hop service about 1988. They still operate in Malaysia, and Indonesia, minus the cute girls bit of course.

Oh, there ARE Chuck E's in NY... I've seen a few. Unsure about other states, but Im sure they're around. I've only been in FL for about 3 years now.... so all of my memories of them were NY-based.

Lets see I was 15 or so when my family moved back to CT, and never noticed any of them. Then again would I have at that age? Doubt it.

Well it is two am, and I'm just barely getting tired and I have to be up for 5, can you say red bull for brekky? lol nah I'll probablly go for cereal and coffee.

Funny a guy lives all much of his life in the south, and has a northern accent, goes to Australia, comes back and has a mixed Aussie/Northern accent.

I grew up in FL, and as far as I know, Chuck E Cheese bought out Showbiz many moons ago. We went to Chuck E's with the kids a couple of weeks ago up here, and it was newly renovated, and quite nice. Yeah, the pizza is godawful, and it takes 8000 tickets to get a stuffed mouse, but hey...the kids liked it. (Before you go again, go to the website, there are really sweet coupons available there). They had Sam Goody in FL, when I was a wee lad, but only in the malls. As for the carhop thing...there are two or three left up here in PA, but not many. I can't think of any in Fl. The Steak & Shake across from Fashion Square on 50 (in Orlando) used to have girls on skates, but only on weekend nights. That was years ago, though, I don't even know if the place is there anymore, much less the car service.

Where ever did you find that place Mild2Wild?

I do remmber Hung Laung Video in Box Hill. Just your typical Chinese Video, they had a few HK Cat 3 titles, but nothing too bad. Turns out the owners name was Hung Laung. They used to be right at the exit of the underground parking in Box Hill, but moved to Whitehorse road, across from where Hobby Japan, and Bubble Cup and all that used to me.

Man I'm missing some milk tea right about now.

    ---------------------

In othernews I ended up in Gainsville on the way back from Jacksonville, and found the Mellow Mushroom. Simply the best god dammed pizza I have had in the US! Pizza, salad, sandwiches, fressher than a coll winter breze, and just totally excellent. Blew my mind. It helped they had red bull (even advertised) and did not look at me funny when I ordered it! In the words of my son, bloody oath.

The steak and shake here do not do that, at leat I have not seen it. Don't think they'd get it for some reason.

I think it is about time to post my hooters experience in this thread. It is truly sureal.

Florida was so addictive. There are so many things to do in florida. I loved it! I had spent a back to back 2- weeks vacation in florida. There's something for everyone there!
